I'm sure by now that most of you are probably sick to death of end-of-decade lists, which have not only invaded movie sites like ours, but news magazines, tabloids, and gadget mags. We're all suckers for lists (and repurposed content), even knowing that most will inspire little but passionate disagreement (site runners should know by now that end-of-decade lists are no way to elicit approval from readers -- find me one Best of the Decade Movies list with more than ten comments that doesn't have at least one person quibbling).
Well, last night, I went on a little world-wide web journey. I read hundreds of End of Decade movie lists, covering everything from best and worst movies overall, by genre, by individual year, by running time, box-office gross, user-approval rating, guilty pleasure rating, underappreciated status, or biggest bust. And after scouring the web, I found the ten movies -- the only ten,...

Wortmann confirmed in 'Pope' director chair
BERLIN -- Constantin Film confirmed Wednesday that director Sonke Wortmann is taking the helm of Pope Joan, replacing Volker Schlondorff, who was fired after criticizing the concept of filming with an eye toward a theatrical release and a TV miniseries version.
Wortmann (Germany: A Summer's Fairytale) reportedly campaigned for the job, beating several high-profile German directors including Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn) and Mennan Yapo (Premonition).
The project has been plagued with a number of problems including extensive rewrites; a lawsuit against actor John Goodman, who pulled out of the project; and a lack of support from film-funding institutions. The film has been presold, however, to several European territories.
Pope Joan centers on a female pope who passes herself off as a man. The dramatic climax sees her giving birth in public.
Actresses from Nicole Kidman to Natalie Portman reportedly were wooed for the role -- but apparently none of them took the bait. German star Franka Potente still is expected to play the lead.

Warners' '300' stays atop Friday boxoffice battle
The fighting Spartans of 300 are still dominating the boxoffice.
According to the boxoffice tracking site boxofficemojo.com, the Warner Bros. Pictures' period battle cry took in an estimated $10.2 million on Friday. That figure represents nearly a 64% drop from the movie's $28.1 million bow the previous Friday -- bad weather in the Northeast may have impacted the boxoffice returns -- but it was still strong enough to ensure that the film will easily be this weekends top-grosser. "300" also crossed the $100 million mark, with its eight-day gross hitting an estimated $106.5 million.
Sony Pictures' thriller Premonition, starring Sandra Bullock, debuted in the number two slot. The film, directed by Mennan Yapo, grossed an estimated $6.3 million for the day.
Universal Pictures' horror movie Dead Silence, directed by "Saw" helmer James Wan, bowed to $2.85 million, which put it in fourth place.
The weekend's other new wide release, Fox Searchlight's romantic comedy I Think I Love My Wife, starring Chris Rock, squeezed into fifth place with an estimated $1.78 million.
