The cast and crew of Disney’s beloved sports comedy, “Cool Runnings”, are opening up about the troubles they ran into with Disney upon making the 1993 film.

During a recent reunion, in honour of the film’s 30th anniversary this month, director Jon Turteltaub and the cast recalled battling with the media giant over the film’s Jamaican accents.

“Cool Runnings” — roughly based on the debut of the Jamaican national bobsleigh team at the 1988 Winter Olympics — initially got its start apart from Disney with a script that featured a lot of “drugs, racism and the characters were getting laid a lot,” actor Rawle D. Lewis revealed in a interview with The Independent.

“I saw it morph into the movie that it is now,” the cast member continued. “It was something that had never been told before – Jamaicans in tights? People were like, ‘How’s this going to go under the Disney umbrella?...

One of Disney’s most beloved sports movies is turning 30. 1993 saw the release of Cool Runnings, the movie that’s based on the story of the first Jamaican bobsled team that competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics. The film starred Leon, Doug E. Doug, Malik Yoba, Rawle D. Lewis and John Candy as their coach. The loosely adapted story was directed by Jon Turteltaub, who would also collaborate with Disney for the National Treasure franchise. Turteltaub and the cast recently unveiled some behind-the-scenes details of the movie in an interview with The Independent.

According to Variety, it was revealed that Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was the Chairman at Disney at the time, wanted the director to Americanize the Jamaican accents for a general audience. Turteltaub said he received a call in the middle of the night by Katzenberg, “He said, ‘If you can’t get these accents to where I can understand them clearly,...

A gripping thriller based on true events (which is especially scary), The Good Nurse is directed by Academy Award nominee Tobias Lindholm (for Another Round), written by Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and stars Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain as Amy Loughren and Eddie Redmayne as Charles Cullen, as well as Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, Malik Yoba, Alix West Lefler, and Kim Dickens. What's going on? An infamous caregiver is implicated in the deaths of hundreds of hospital patients. What is the truth? What's really going on, why is he doing this? This looks especially eerie and unsettling, with such a dark performance by Redmayne.

Netflix has a knack for getting a lot of very talented people together in movies that seemingly just wouldn't get made at a traditional studio anymore. Case in point, "The Good Nurse" is a movie that features two Oscar winners in the form of Jessica Chastain ("It Chapter Two") and Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything") front-and-center in a thriller that is based on true events.

As the title implies, they are nurses working at a hospital but, as it turns out, only one of them is good and the other might actually be very bad. For a movie with such a seemingly innocuous title, the body count certainly stacks up in a hurry here. Let's take a gander, shall we?

Films which centre around team sports have long been a staple of popular cinema. Exclusive: Tony-nominee Pascale Armand (Eclipsed), Yolonda Ross (The Chi), Charles Malik Whitfield (Chicago Med), Denise Boutte (Meet The Browns) and Kendrick Cross (Ambitions) will lead Season 2 of AllBlk’s horror anthology series Terror Lake Drive.

From creators Jerry Lamothe and Kajuana S. Marie, Terror Lake Drive follows the terrorized tenants of the fictional Freeman Lake Apartments in Atlanta. Season 2, titled Terror Lake Drive: Single Black Female, takes place two years after the chain of events that haunted the Freeman Lake Apartments in the first season. The inaugural installment followed a single mother from Baltimore who relocates to Atlanta in an attempt to escape her troubled past and starred Shannon Kane, Malik Yoba, Donielle T. Hansley Jr., and Lamman Rucker.

Armand will play Deja, a traveling nurse who has recently completed an assignment in Austin, Texas announces her new assignment at the recently constructed Atlanta University Hospital – much to the dismay of her friends and colleagues.

Peacock has released a trailer for “Unidentified with Demi Lovato,” which premieres on Sept. 30.

The four-part UFO docuseries sees Lovato, their friend Matthew and their sister Dallas consult with leading experts, investigate eyewitness encounters, uncover government documents and conduct tests to search for the truth about UFOs. In the trailer, Lovato explains that they already believe in extraterrestrials, calling themself a “UFO experiencer” and recounting a trip to Joshua Tree where they saw a bright light moving erratically through the sky. In “Unidentified with Demi Lovato,” they aim to convince their family and friends of the same.

Exclusive: Evelyn Braxton, the matriarch of long-running reality series Braxton Family Values, is cooking up a new show.

Braxton is developing a cooking format with Dorothy Toran and Leslie Farrell’s Lauren Grace Media. Cooking With Ms. E, which is inspired by her upcoming cookbook, will see her give viewers an inside look into one of her favorite places – her kitchen.

The series will also see Braxton joined by a number of guests in the kitchen as she bakes up recipes, including her famous buffins – a cross between a muffin and a biscuit.

Evelyn Braxton is an opera singer, certified life coach and mother of six including hit singer Toni Braxton. She is one of the stars of WEtv’s Braxton Family Values, which recently aired its seventh season.

Lauren Grace Media was launched in February 2020 by The Real Housewives of New Jersey exec producer Toran and former NBCU exec Farrell.

Exclusive: Elisabeth Röhm and Malik Yoba have teamed with veteran reality TV executives Dorothy Toran (The Real Housewives of New Jersey) and Leslie D. Farrell’s Lauren Grace Media on a true-crime docuseries.

Created by Röhm and Yoba, the project, which is in development, explores how racial and socioeconomic disparities influence criminal investigations and how justice is served. Specific cases are not being revealed.

“We are so thrilled to partner with Elisabeth and Malik to help shine a light on matters of racial inequity,” Toran said. “They both have such an incredible commitment and passion for having the difficult conversations required to help combat the inequalities so many disadvantaged communities face.”

Exclusive: Dick Wolf’s groundbreaking 1990s cop drama New York Undercover is making a return.

NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock is in negotiations for a new incarnation of New York Undercover, which is expected to receive a series commitment, we have learned. It hails from former The Chi showrunner Ayanna Floyd Davis, Dick Wolf and Universal Television where the company is based.

Written by Floyd Davis, the new series is described as re-examination of the original, reflecting the current times. It is picking up 20 years after the end of the original series that changed the face of TV cop dramas.

Floyd, who will serve as showrunner, executive produces with Wolf Entertainment’s Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney. Uni TV, part of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Wolf Entertainment.

Courtney Hope will reprise her role from “The Bold and the Beautiful” on “The Young and the Restless.” Hope’s character Sally Spectra, a dynamic fashion designer based in Los Angeles, will move to Genoa City to join the CBS soap opera. The actor originated the role in 2017 and last appeared on “The Bold and the Beautiful” in August, when Sally left town after her scheme to win back her ex-boyfriend didn’t pan out. “The Young and the Restless” also stars Marla Adams, Lauralee Bell, Peter Bergman, Donny Boaz and Eric Braeden, among others.

Exclusive: Umc is preparing its thriller Terror Lake Drive starring Empire and Designated Survivor’s Malik Yoba for a Thanksgiving premiere.

The AMC Networks-backed streamer will launch the limited series, which was created by Blackout director Jerry Lamothe and Kajuana S. Marie (Data.Love.Repeat), on Thursday November 26.

Umc said that six-part series Terror Lake Drive was the first official series greenlit by SAG-AFTRA and the state of Georgia to commence principal photography following the start of the pandemic. It kicked off production in Atlanta on June 29.

Terror Lake Drive is a suspenseful drama that follows a single mother from Baltimore who – on the heels of a recent pandemic and growing social unrest – relocates to Atlanta in an attempt to dodge her troubled past. As she settles into her new surroundings, she soon discovers that there are some things she can never run away from.

At the start of the year, Peacock closed a mega deal for the majority of Dick Wolf’s library including the Law & Order and Chicago franchises.

A month later, the uber producer signed a huge nine-figure deal spanning broadcast and streaming that will keep him at sibling Universal Television for at least five years.

So, it’s no surprise that NBCU’s streamer is looking to do originals with the New York-born creator.

Bill McGoldrick, President of Original Content at NBCU Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, told Deadline that it is currently in conversations with Wolf about his first project for the streaming service, which launches nationwide on July 15.

“We definitely want to do something with Dick Wolf but we haven’t landed on a specific show yet,” he said.

Bet+, Bet Networks’ Svod service, has ordered a second season of First Wives Club, starring Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott and Michelle Buteau, Deadline has learned.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed the renewal to Deadline. Bet declined comment.

Developed by Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver, The First Wives Club helped launch Bet’s new streaming service as one of two original scripted series available at the platform’s Sept. 19 rollout.

The show, like the movie that starred Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn, is set in New York City. It follows Ari (Bathe), Bree (Buteau) and Hazel (Scott), who band together after their marriages fall apart and find strength in their sisterhood — and of course a little revenge.

RonReaco Lee, Malik Yoba and Mark Tallman also star.

Oliver writes the series and executive produces with Karen Rosenfelt, Scott Rudin, a producer on the First Wives Club movie.

Ari, Bree and Hazel are three college besties who’ve lost touch over the years. But as Bet+’s First Wives Club gets underway, all it takes is a little marital infidelity for the ladies to re-learn a time-worn lesson: Sisters before misters.

Actor Malik Yoba said he is attracted to transgender women in a lengthy social media post shared last week.

The Cool Runnings and Empire star, 51, shared a video to Instagram of a man defending his transgender girlfriend while being taunted by a group of people. According to NBC News, the man in the viral clip is Maurice “Reese” Willoughby, who reportedly died by suicide last month.
