Exclusive: Remember when geeky tween Jenna Rink was magically transformed into glamorous Jennifer Garner in the classic rom-com 13 Going on 30? That was two decades ago. Now that role’s being played by West End star Lucie Jones in a stage musical adapted from the beloved 2004 movie.
The show is headed for an out-of-town-tryout at the Manchester Opera House, where it will run for a limited season from September 21, 2025.
Just this past April, Garner joined fellow stars from the film — Mark Ruffalo, who played Matt Flamhaff, the boy next door who Jenna doesn’t realize holds a candle for her, and Judy Greer as Lucy Wyman, once her childhood nemesis and now an editing colleague at the fictional Poise magazine — for a 20th anniversary reunion on Zoom that spread far and wide on social media.

Mark Ruffalo is turning back the clock to celebrate 20 years of timeless rom-com “13 Going on 30.”
Ruffalo, who starred opposite Jennifer Garner in the time travel comedy, revisited the film for its 20th anniversary in an Instagram video alongside Garner and co-star Judy Greer. The “Poor Things” actor and Marvel star Ruffalo admitted that among his filmography, “13 Going on 30” still proves to be his most recognizable role…even after playing the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade.
“There’s two types of people in this world. There’s Hulk people, and there’s ’13 Going on 30′ people, and I get equal amounts,” Ruffalo said before adding, “way more ’13 Going on 30.'”

Twenty years after its release, the Jennifer Garner-led comedy 13 Going on 30 is still thriving.
Sony released Gary Winick’s comedy in theaters April 23, 2004, and the film earned $96 million ($159 million today) at the global box office. Also featuring Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer and Andy Serkis, the movie centered on teenage Jenna Rink (played by Christa B. Allen, now known as Christa Belle), who gets embarrassed at a party and makes a wish that transforms her into her 30-year-old self (Garner).
Co-writers Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, in addition to Belle, separately share with The Hollywood Reporter about other actresses being considered for Garner’s part, Ruffalo feeling hesitant to do the “Thriller” dance, memories of Winick (who died of cancer in 2011 at age 49), the status of a stage musical, and persistent chatter among the film’s team regarding a potential onscreen reboot.

The teams at the center of Disney+’s Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Big Shot have played their last games.
The streamer has canceled both shows after two seasons each. The decision comes several months after the ends of their respective seasons: Game Changers concluded in November 2022, and Big Shot had a binge release in October.
The writing has perhaps been on the wall for both shows: After the surprising ouster of Peter Rice from Disney in June, a source at the company cited the decision to renew Big Shot and The Mighty Ducks after their first seasons as examples of Rice’s “questionable deal-making.”
As is usually the case with streaming series, detailed viewing data for the pair isn’t available; neither show managed to crack the top 10 of Nielsen’s streaming rankings during their runs. Outside of Marvel and Star Wars properties, The Santa Clauses is the...

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will be back for another go. Disney+ has picked up a second season of the hockey-themed follow-up series starring Lauren Graham, Brady Noon and Emilio Estevez, who reprises his role from the 1992 movie and its 1994 and 1996 sequels. Production on Season 2 is slated to begin in early 2022.
The series is set in present-day Minnesota, and the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom (Graham) set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. Maybe more than anything, “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” is a feat of casting. Yes, the Disney+ revival is a continuation of a beloved film series that helped birth not just a generation of fans but an NHL franchise (and an animated spinoff with a theme song still lodged in the subconscious of every kid that watched more than one episode).
But all of that previous success would never have happened if the youth hockey team that helped get the whole thing started almost 30 years ago didn’t feel like an actual team. So even though this new “Mighty Ducks” TV show finds the Ducks as a junior hockey powerhouse made up of heartless bullies, the new ragtag squad that forms in its wake is a club that’s instantly worth rooting for.

It doesn’t take long for “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” to both acknowledge and gently reject its roots. Opening on a middle school hockey tryout with all the flashy pomp and circumstances of a primetime NHL game, the new Disney Plus series from Steve Brill, Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith makes it clear that the Ducks of 2021 are nothing like the scrappy underdogs of 1992. Almost 30 years later, the Minnesota youth team has become exactly the kind of hyper-competitive behemoth that it once stood defiantly against. The kids are ruthless, the coach even worse, and the stands are full of parents dreaming of a direct line to fancy colleges. Adding insult to injury, everyone seems to remember the Ducks of old as something of an adorable misstep. “Can you believe they used to quack?” asks one scoffing kid to another, oblivious to the anguished offscreen screams of all the former...

That sound you hear is every millennial quacking. Twenty-nine years after “The Mighty Ducks” skated into our hearts, introduced the Flying V and the Triple Deke, and launched not just two sequels, 1994’s “D2: The Mighty Ducks” and 1996’s “D3: The Mighty Ducks,” but an actual NHL team, the Mighty Ducks are flying again in Disney+’s new series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” premiering Friday, March 26. Except this flock has a new name altogether.
Developed by Steve Brill, the original creator of the trilogy, Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, the 10-episode sequel series picks up in present-day Minneapolis and flips the script, a la “Cobra Kai,” as the Mighty Ducks are now the dominant force in youth hockey. There are only so many stories to tell, especially in the picked-over underdog-sports genre. So it doesn’t feel egregious that the new Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers blatantly rips off the premise of Cobra Kai by making the heroes from the movies — a ragtag-turned-champion youth hockey team — into the bad guys. After all, the overarching plot of Cobra Kai — unhappy middle-aged man finds renewed purpose by teaching kids about the sport he loved in his youth — is more or less the same as the one that introduced...

It’s been a quarter century since a live-action Mighty Ducks project featured the star of the original film series. But now, with Disney+ finding new ways to repurpose stories for a new audience, the upcoming “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” will find Emilio Estevez returning as Gordon Bombay.
The series has Estevez play Gordon as a curmudgeonly ice rink owner who has left hockey behind, seemingly for good. The Mighty Ducks themselves have gone through a transformation of their own, going from plucky misfits to a youth sports powerhouse. The arrival of a preteen hockey player and his mom Alex (Lauren Graham) nudge Gordon back to taking a new group of mismatched kids and teaching them about the game. Disney+ announced a March 26 premiere date for the series.
