Jeanne Marleau(1927-1995)
- Actress
Jeanne Marleau (sometimes also known as Jeanne Marlo) performed in
Dutch rep and revues in the years just after the war and the early
Fifties. She shared the stage with famous names (in Holland) such as
Lou Bandy and the Kilima Hawaijans. She married in 1955, had children
and because of her illness (reumatoid arthritis) led a quiet life until
the film Maria came along in the early Eighties. Director/writer/actor
Peter Jan Rens asked her to play the part of Maria, which she did sat
in a wheel chair because by that time she had also been diagnosed with
MS. It was to be her last performance. She retired to anonymity in the
Dutch countryside. On February 12th 1995 she died suddenly of a heart
attack.
