I love the exploitation output of the ‘70s. Those gritty pictures hold a special place in my heart, and I know I’m not alone in my appreciation. Plenty of movie lovers share a similar admiration for these edgy offerings. Perhaps it’s the way many of these efforts eschewed conventional hero and villain roles, blurring the lines between good and evil. Or, maybe it’s the over-the-top nature of these flicks.
No matter the reason, these films have a loyal cult following, with many contemporary filmmakers harkening back to exploitation fare with their output. Hell, Quentin Tarantino has made a successful career out of it. It’s great fun to see filmmakers meld modern cinematic techniques with the gritty and unflinching aesthetic that permeated these cult classics of yesteryear.

Many fans of "Reacher" might not have been all that familiar with series star Alan Ritchson prior to the show's debut. If so, it certainly wasn't down to a lack of projects on the actor's résumé. Ritchson really broke through by playing Jack Reacher and, as such, must have seemed to some as if he'd come out of nowhere to play the bulky ex-military policeman. But the man has actually been toiling away since the early 2000s.
In his now two-decade career, Ritchson has appeared on screens both big and small in a variety of projects, including "Above the Shadows" (an overlooked Mma movie that's now streaming on Prime Video), multiple seasons playing Hank Hall/Hawk on DC's "Titans," and two "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movies (though Ritchson hated filming them). The actor's long career actually stretches all the way back to 2006 when he first played Arthur Curry/Aquaman on...

Horror fans are smiling. This past week, Netflix added to its catalog a horror movie that was a standout in movie theaters, and subscribers had been dying to watch it or give it a second viewing. The result was predictable: Smile 2is now among the top 10 most-watched movies on the streaming platform this week. This time, the story follows music superstar Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) as she gets hit with the curse that makes everyone around her do terrible things – all with a smile on their faces.
Back when the first movie premiered in 2022, the concept of Smilewas already sinister enough. In the sequel, however, director and screenwriter Parker Finn (Smile) found a way to make it even more disturbing, with some death scenes that viewers will remember forever. One of them involves Lukas Gage (Companion) and a weight plate in a scene that you have to see to believe.

Yesterday we reported that yet another Stephen King book was set to be adapted for the big screen in the near future. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, the 1999 psychological horror novel by the writer of classics like Pet Sematary and The Talisman, will be adapted into a feature film by Jt Mollner, the director behind the gripping thriller Strange Darling. Mollner is also the writer behind one of the year's most anticipated King adaptations, The Long Walk. Even though he has already entered the pantheon of talents to bring King's work to the big screen, Mollner expressed his gratitude at the opportunity to adapt such an underrated novel, which he refers to as his "mom's favorite book."
Amid the celebration, Mollner took to X to express his excitement about the announcement. In the post he thanks Lionsgate, Vertigo Entertainment, and King himself. He even uses High Speech, the language...

Who’s ready for another Stephen Kingadaptation? It doesn’t matter if it isn’t you, because there’s one more on the way. Coming out left and right like Scream 7 casting announcements, the latest project that will take the author’s words from page to screen is The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that this time around, Jt Mollner, the visionary behind one of the most well-received horror movies of last year, Strange Darling, will both pen and helm the production, which is set to release through Lionsgate. This marks the latest partnership between not just the author and the studio, but also the author, studio, and Mollner, as the latter wrote the screenplay for Francis Lawrence’s theatrical take on King’s The Long Walk, which arrives in cinemas this fall.

New Smallville art depicts Tom Welling's Superman and the DC show's iteration of the Justice League with major costume changes. While the show ended more than a decade ago, many are still hoping to see Welling suit up as Smallville's Superman in the future through a potential continuation.
Even though the Smallville series finale ended with Clark Kent finally becoming Superman, Welling's version of the Man of Steel never wore the full suit, as the DC icon was only seen with the costume through CGI. It wasn't until the very final shot that Welling wore part of the Superman costume when Clark did the famous shirt-rip before cutting to the credits.
While time will tell if Welling will get to reprise his version of Superman in the future, Buffy2Ville shared artwork recently of what Clark would look like in a Zack Snyder-inspired superhero suit. The artist...

"Smallville" ran for 10 seasons, but its impact can't be measured only by how long it stayed on the air. The CW's Arrowverse doesn't exist without "Smallville." Now, "Arrow" did not share a continuity with "Smallville" and it recast its Oliver Queen. But still, even without "Arrow" being a proper "Smallville" spin-off, The CW greenlighting a Green Arrow show clearly happened because "Smallville" had introduced the character to their audience.
But there could've been a Green Arrow-led TV series much sooner, one starring Justin Hartley. During "Smallville" season 6, writer Steven DeKnight was working on a Justice League spin-off.
Beginning in season 4 of "Smallville," Clark Kent (Tom Welling) slowly begins meeting other DC superheroes. In "Run," it's Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner). Season 5 had Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in "Aqua" and then Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) in, well, "Cyborg." Then season 6 brought in Green Arrow (Hartley) as a recurring character.

Well, that was fast. A few days ago, Deadline reported a rumor that Strange Darling director Jt Mollner was potentially circling a new entry in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise alongside producer Roy Lee.
But on Saturday, Mollner took to X (formerly Twitter) to suggest that the rumor isn't true, saying, "Don't believe everything you read."
The initial Deadline report also suggested that Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell might be interested in reading a script for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which would be great casting.
Starting in 1974 with Tobe Hooper's classic, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has spanned nine movies, novels, video games, and plenty of merchandise. But it has been a long time since we've gotten a solid entry into the canon. The last movie released in 2022 was the Netflix Original, meant to reboot the film series. However, that movie wound up being controversial to fans.

Tom Welling’s Older Superman & Smallville’s Justice League Don Armored Upgraded Suits In Epic DC Art
Smallville's Justice League comes back together for a new adventure in exciting DC art that imagines an older version of the team with armored superhero suits. Tom Welling's Clark Kent only became Superman in the final episode of the live-action DC TV show. However, he went on multiple missions with other heroes, such as Alan Ritchson's Aquaman, Justin Hartley's Green Arrow, and Serinda Swan's Zatanna, throughoutSmallville's ten seasons. Some of the show's heroes ended up becoming part of Smallville's prototype version of the Justice League, and they now return in new DC art.
On Instagram, @buffy2ville shared what Tom Welling's older Superman and Smallville's Justice League could look like today with armored, modern suits.

There’s just something about two horror icons working together that fills our hearts with glee. While their upcoming pairing may not be a guts-and-bloods-filled slasher (hopefully in the future!), we’re still stoked to see what Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) and Kyle Gallner (Strange Darling) have in store for us when Adam Carter Rehmeier’s (Dinner in America) feature, Carolina Caroline, eventually arrives in theaters. In the romantic crime drama, which also features performances from Kyra Sedgwick (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jon Gries (The White Lotus), Gallner and Weaving star as a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde — bending all the rules and making the world their own while conning folks out of money along the way.

Sensitive viewers need trigger warnings before watching a movie. This is especially true when it comes to the hair-raising thrillers on this list. These films are tough watches due to their graphic scenes and intense subject matter. It takes some mental preparation to be able to handle them.
Most cinephiles know that Requiem for a Dream, Se7en, and The Silence of the Lambs are psychologically disturbing. However, there are many lesser-seen thrillers that may leave viewers scarred for life. Mentally prepare before watching these movies.

Russell Crowe is one of the greatest actors of his generation. Throughout his career, he's made interesting choices in the roles he takes. Unhinged is one of his least-appreciated thrillers. In the film, he plays a man with the worst case of road rage ever seen.

More than 15 years later, Jennifer Check is ready for a resurrection.
Although Amanda Seyfried stopped short of confirming a sequel to her 2009 horror comedy Jennifer’s Body is in the works, she certainly gave fans of the Diablo Cody-written, Karyn Kusama-directed cult classic some hope.
“I think we’re making another one,” Seyfried told Bloody Disgusting. “I didn’t confirm it! I said, ‘I think.’ We’re working on it.”
In Jennifer’s Body, Needy (Seyfried) is BFFs with the titular mean girl played by Megan Fox, whose body becomes possessed by a succubus with a taste for teen boys after a botched sacrifice by a devil-worshipping boy band (led by Adam Brody).
Last year, Cody expressed optimism in a potential Jennifer’s Body 2 after hopes that her latest film Lisa Frankenstein would be the “final push that I need to actually make it happen. It’s hard to get things made these days.

Do you ever have one of those days that can be perfectly summed up by the lyrics of Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff? Most of us have, especially anyone who’s dragged themselves to a shift at a dingy fast food joint. That is exactly the kind of day that Benson and Randy are having in the 2023 thriller, The Passenger, because anyone who interacts with this duo will have their life on contract.

It’s a well-known fact that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences don’t tend to favour genre films when it comes to shortlisting for their tentpole awards ceremony. It’s simply not their bag and that goes that double for anything that happens to fall into the disreputable slum of horror. Indeed — bar a few outliers like Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist or Get Out — scary movies rarely get a fair shake come Oscar season. Certainly not when compared to, say, glitzy biopics or period pieces that have a more prestigious air about them.
Yet, against all odds, the genre has done quite well for itself this year. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is dominating the technical categories, The Substance has found itself as an unlikely contender for four of the “Big Five” awards, and even Alien: Romulus has gotten a look in for its VFX work.

In 2022, Parker Finn made an everyday facial movement absolutely terrifying when he unleashed Smile upon the world. Unique, grotesque, and downright chilling, the Sosie Bacon and Kyle Gallner-led film was a hit with critics and audiences alike, earning a Certified Fresh approval rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. Two years after the smile curse was unveiled to theater-goers around the world, Finn came back with a vengeance through his 2024 film, Smile 2. There’s no arguing that last year was incredibly wonderful for genre fans, and, at the top of that entertainment list, you’d find Finn’s follow-up feature. Starring Naomi Scott as Skye Riley, a pop superstar who’s been infected by the grinning curse, the movie became one of the genre’s top-grossers of the year and was a favorite among audiences. But, what’s next for the blossoming franchise?...

In the 2010s, the success of Arrow resulted in a Flash spinoff series and eventually the entire Arrowverse. Despite being its spiritual successor, Smallvillenever went down this path. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying, and as recently as two years ago, there was still interest in reviving the beloved Superman series.
Smallville was a smash hit that lasted 10 seasons, but none of its potential spinoffs even got a single season. Only one of the conceptualized spinoffs even had a pilot produced, even after the CW drama went out of its way to include multiple backdoor pilots. Every proposed spinoff would have starred at least one iconic DC hero, and with fans having only recently learned about some of them, it's possible there are still pitches that haven't been unveiled.

Demons have haunted humanity's tales since the dawn of time, with different parts of the world coming up with uniquely nightmarish monsters to be afraid of. Since the era of filmmaking, however, stories of demon possession have become a part of global pop culture. One of the most recent additions to this subgenre of horror movies is The Pope's Exorcist, available to stream on Netflix. Though a promising story based on a real exorcist, the movie failed to bring anything new to the genre.
However, there are some impactful horror movies with a demon as the villain. Some of these are icons of the genre, whereas others haven't received the credit they deserve. The majority of these demons have chilling physical forms, terrifying origin stories, and shocking abilities that make them the scariest demonic forces in horror. That said, even those invisible to the naked eye are capable of terrifying the bravest viewers.

With star Mason Gooding recently teasing Neve Campbell's return for Scream VII, the overarching continuity of the slasher movie universe is beginning to take shape. The popular horror franchise created by Wes Craven in 1996 remained confined to the California suburbs of Woodsboro during the first five installments before branching out to New York City in Scream VI, a reinvigorating departure expected to continue when Scream 7 is released in 2026.
In addition to the coastal change, series mainstay Neve Campbell was noticeably absent from Scream VI due to contract disagreements. Then, Melissa Barrera, was notoriously fired from the franchise following her pro-Palestinian support after Scream IV was released, prompting Campbell's return for Scream 7. Given all the moving parts, casting changes, new settings, and the like, it's worth delineating how Scream V and Scream VI relate to each other narratively and whether the former must be seen to comprehend the latter.

Reacher has become one of Amazon’s most successful and acclaimed shows in recent years, retelling some of Lee Child’s most popular novels for the small screen. The show follows the titular protagonist as he’s dragged through a series of complex crimes and conspiracies, always using his military background and problem-solving skills to save the day. Reacher has an excellent cast that really lets the characters shine, and for the first season, Willa Fitzgerald’s Roscoe was arguably the standout member.
Following Roscoe’s exit at the end of Reacher season 1, the show has consistently struggled to fill the gap that she’s left behind. While many fans have called for Roscoe to return in the upcoming third season, this could ultimately prove detrimental to the story and would confess the show’s reliance on her. While Smallville is turning 24 years old later this year, the show's popularity is not slowing down any time soon, as the show enjoys continuing popularity through streaming worldwide and home media releases. With the fandom always growing, the trend of the series being celebrated through fan celebrations years after the Smallville ending continues.
While fans were used to seeing Smallville and its depiction of the Justice League in the traditional heroic way, things could look a lot different if there were evil versions of them. To show what a twisted and corrupted Justice League in the Smallville franchise could look like, Buffy2Ville shared a new gallery of art featuring Welling as Ultraman, an evil version of Superman, along with various members of the iconic DC team, but as villains. Check it out below.

A popular trend in the movie world in recent years is major studios remaking their fan-favorite films from decades before. Although the idea has been popularized by Disney with their live-action remakes of their classic animated features, the trend extends far beyond the one company. Throughout Hollywood, filmmakers are aiming to capitalize on the pre-existing fan bases of their original movies. Oftentimes, putting a modern spin on a beloved classic seems like a surefire way to make a hefty profit.
However, a handful of attempts have proven that success is not a guarantee. Many recent remakes, particularly of films from the 1980s, have ended up massively underwhelming their audiences. Viewers flock to theaters hoping to see an exciting new twist on their favorite stories, but sadly discover that they are merely being given something boring, unoriginal, or otherwise disappointing. Although the films that inspired them may have been quite successful,...

To tweak Hugh Grant’s best line in “Love Actually,” horror actually is all around.
Whether you’re riding into the new year on your high horse or calmly preparing to walk into the sea, 2025 is a turning point. There’s no genre that tells us who we are or what we’re made of like this one, and the past twelve months have offered audiences a slew of scary stories full of shocks and surprises that were mostly open to interpretation.
Not all of us found powerful metaphors for social change in popular titles, and plenty of terrifying efforts flew under the radar in the genre’s generally high-grossing landscape. There were enough abortion analogies released last spring to merit their own ranking And there’s a reason “MaXXXine” — the definitive film of Brat Girl Summer! — didn’t make many year-end lists. Fittingly, the Mia Goth-starring sequel is...

2024 is nearly over, and while we have seen some brilliant horror films come out this year, I don’t think it has been such a great year for the genre. With most horror films flopping at the box office and the dreaded Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel coming out, it all felt wrong. But don’t worry because I have picked out the 18 best horror films that have come out this year. I haven’t ranked the films in the article and I will update the list as more films come out.

The ending of Parker Finn's Smile 2 was a bit of a shock to the audiences who watched the movie and the audience in the actual film. The brutal ending seems to inevitably doom the future of the horror franchise. The ending sequence is bold and daring regarding where it takes the franchise, but Smile 2 and its predecessor subtly present a loophole that could potentially save the next installment from the movie's shocking ending.
Just as Smile did, Smile 2 reveals that a portion of the story took place inside the protagonist's fractured mind. This time around, it's pop star Skye Riley's (Naomi Scott) haunted mind. Nevertheless, only the last ten minutes of Smile take place inside Rose's (Sosie Bacon) mind, but it seems a sizable portion of Smile 2 takes place inside Skye's head.
