As Hollywood waits to see what may come out of Friday’s meeting between the WGA and the AMPTP, filmmakers and producers at all levels have been engaged in a complex dialogue on the lightning-rod topic that has emerged during the concurrent actors strike: the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement.
As of Tuesday, a total of 123 interim agreements have been handed out in both film and TV since the guild’s strike began, to projects from “truly independent producers” that have agreed to abide by the terms of the new contract SAG-AFTRA is pushing for with the studios and streamers.
The topic of the interim agreements, which are being studied and handed out by a group within the actors union, are being discussed, dissected and debated on the picket lines and social media, with actors such as Sarah Silverman voicing their concern that such a policy could prolong the strike.

As a child I was fascinated by “Manimal” an old TV series where a man could transform into various creatures. Also, by “Braveheart” a cartoon sheriff with the powers of hawk, wolf, puma, and bear (currently singing that as I write this). So, the concept of a guy revived with martial animal powers caught my attention. With one of the executive producers (Prachya Pinkaew) being the man who brought us Tony Jaa it looked like there could be some potential here. I mean what martial arts movie fan doesn’t mind a bit of Tiger or Monkey Style? Can’t be too bad right???

Set in what appears to be a dystopian, and possibly post-apocalyptic America, Shadow Master opens with a Swat team walking in on a martial arts battle in what looks like a hospital turned into a slaughterhouse complete with hooks and chains.
They arrest the only person still alive. Back at the station Detective Russells begins interrogating the suspect. He claims to be John Doe, although we’ll later find out his mane is actually An Voaen, the hospital’s night watchman. A job that paid him with food and a place to live.
The hospital is actually abandoned, and judging by its occupants such as the Harley Quinn wannabe Dewitt and her mother might have been an asylum. The group’s leader Boon-Nam tells him that there have been issues with children disappearing in the night,...

In our last post Anna Rebek briefly touched on one very important aspect of sacrifice when it comes to making microbudget films…crew. I think we often have to get past the feeling of incredible guilt in pre-production when asking friends and family to come along on yet another microbudget adventure. However, we learn to compensate with understanding, attention and compassion, making micro budget a unique testing ground for new methods. No matter what happens after these films are made, we are left with lessons that some big-budget filmmakers have never had to learn. Perhaps instead of wondering when to give up, we should be taking this time learning how to prepare for the future. Layton Matthews is here to discuss the merits of treating your crew right…and while you’re at it, why not pay them something.
Let’s say you have written a script and decided to make a micro-budget feature film.

We reported on Deus Ex Machina way back in February of 2008 with no details and some great looking concept art (designs by Pearry himself with ink done by Venelin Dinkov. I'm really digging the Hr Giger inspiration) and now we present to you exclusive details on the film itself. In a dystopic place called Exsilium, citizens who accept Sciences as their religion join a virtual world of heaven and hell. Pearry is currently revising this script with his writing partner Layton Matthews and is in talks to make it into both a film and a graphic novel but unfortunately I can't reveal any further details on that. If you haven't noticed, we love Pearry here at Quiet Earth, and I'm going to say it again, one day this cat is going to make something on the level of Dark City or Brazil. For now, check out my review of Necromentia...

From fellow reader, creative guy and disgruntled movie fan Layton Matthews comes a parody song hitting close to tinseltown. Created by Matthew and fellow colleagues comes a different take on Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady with The Real Psycho Transformer. Taking huge jabs at Hollywood studio and production companies decisions of what is thrown on the remake slab, this is something to check out.
If you are interested in actually listening to the pure MP3 version, check out this link here. Thanks for the video guys, and yes myself and others do agree with you on these ‘remakes’, your not alone!

A love story set in the backdrop of hell "Necromentia" is an unreleased horror feature that offers three intertwined stories in a non-linear story-telling fashion. Centering around the characters Morbius, Hagen, and Travis each character interacts with the others while searching for love despite the pain of betrayal and the hopelessness of recovery from dementia. From the puzzling script of Stephanie Joyce (April's Last) and the creative direction of Pearry Theo (The Gene Generation) "Necromentia" is a horrifying glimpse at death magic and the underworld.
Beginning with Hagen (Santiago Craig) believing his girlfriend will return to him despite the difficulties of death the picture quickly introduces the charismatic Travis (Chad Grimes) who is searching for a reconnection with his lost brother Tommy. Using black magic and trickery Hagen is sent to the underworld as a "guinea pig" to return with the soul of...

Some of the DVD artwork for "Necromentia," along with an update on international distribution has come this way. The film will be distributed throughout the United Kingdom with the support of G2 Pictures; as well, further distribution in Greece and the Middle-East will be handled by Village Roadshow and Eagle Films respectively. Some further artwork will likely come this way and word on United States distribution, but in the meantime have a look at some movie stills from a previous post on this sinister looking film from director and creator Pearry Teo (The Gene Generation).

Viral marketing can play a formidable role in capturing the public’s attention, and some indie filmmakers are really giving it their all in an effort to get their film noticed amongst the dozens of low-budget genre titles that flood video stores (er, Netflix?) each month.
Case in point: If you head on over to 30 Days to Death, you’ll find an elaborate series of journal entries from a young man named Clint, claiming that he will take his own life at the end of thirty days. The entries had some people believing this to be a bona fide cry for help but ended up as an elaborate promotion for filmmaker Layton Matthews’ upcoming Death Perception, a supernatural, metaphysical study of depression and suicide.
When asked to describe Death Perception, writer/director Matthews said, "This is a story about a young person who has altered his own perception to avoid...

Director Pearry Teo unleashes graphic film "Necromentia," for horror film fans in France this May 16 and North America later this year, likely October '09 from one source. A very dark film dealing with portals to the other world "Necromentia," highlights the makeup of Kim Collea (Autopsy, Ironman) and despite a moderate budget of $300,000 looks quite shocking. Potentially available in North America this Fall 2009 initial fan reaction to the promotional material, including trailer and several posters, is positive. Have a look at the full cast information on this completed movie project and the first teaser for "Necromentia," here.
