Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan, (nee Varcoe) was born in Killarney Manitoba, Canada in 1958. From a very early age Mavourneen was drawn to acting; writing, directing and acting in her first play at 11 years of age. She spent a great deal of her childhood imagining that she was someone else acting out other lives in films. Mavourneen excelled at acting through high school and went on to study theatre at the University of Victoria, graduating with a BFA. She got involved in community theatre where she was awarded best actress for her portrayal of Maggie in "Lovers", and best supporting actress for Joan in "Remembrance" at the B.C. Zone Theatre Festivals.
In 1986 Mavourneen married James Ryan, they started a white water rafting company in 1987, and started their family in 1988. The family moved to a small town in the interior of B.C. With her acting career on hold while she raised her 2 children and worked on their company, Mavourneen became involved in children's theatre. She directed all the plays at her children's school and then was one of the founders of a community theatre group where she has directed many successful productions. Mavourneen's passion, however, is acting, and she is very happy to have had the onstage experience playing such roles as Shirley Valentine and Miss Marple. It is this passion and commitment to her work that had landed her the various roles in some great projects such as The Pledge, When I'm Dead, Change of Pace, Snatched From Mommy to name a few. Mavourneen just loves taking part in making movies and is happy to have contributed as AD, Extras casting, Background, or whatever comes her way!
When not on set or the stage, Mavourneen spends a great deal of time outdoors, canoeing, hiking, Xcountry skiing, skating and camping with her husband, or else adoring her two granddaughters. She continues to reside in small town rural B.C. spending time creating pottery, playing guitar, singing and gardening.
