Starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan, this endearing new film from director Peter Cattaneo follows an Englishman's personal and political awakening after he adopts a little penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine's history. He finds the small penguin covered with oil and cleans him up, making a new friend in the process. The main ensemble cast includes Björn Gustafsson, David Herrero, Jonathan Pryce, Vivian El Jaber, Aimar Miranda, Micaela Breque, Tomas Pozzi, and Ramiro Blas. It's easy to be excited by a thriller, especially an erotic one. The genre is designed to elicit that response in us. But with Babygirl, writer-director Halina Reijn has delivered an erotic thriller so confident and so fully formed that it also left me excited for it. I can't wait to see this movie released in the world. It feels calibrated exactly right to its time.

This rather sweet time-travelling comedy raises welcome memories of French classic Les Visiteurs, especially with the latter’s star Jean Reno on board. On this occasion, he’s headed in the opposite direction, as a grandfather with dementia sent back to 1497 after finishing a round of a Jumanji-style magical game with his family. The film is based on the card game Werewolves of Millers Hollow, but manages to be not too cynical for a giant extended advert, with a certain bubbly spontaneity.

Exclusive: Fauda and Gladiator II star Lior Raz is set along with Havana Rose Liu, Jean Reno, and 2x Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh for Daniel Roher’s upcoming crime thriller Tuner from Black Bear.

A24 has just released the trailer for this intense and unconventional erotic thriller that plays with power struggle, consent, grooming, and coercion. Netflix has unveiled the full official trailer for a French adventure comedy movie titled Family Pack, and even though it has werewolves in it, it's less of a horror than it is an action movie. Set for a streaming release on Netflix this October. Made by a French filmmaker named François Uzan, not to be confused with the other French filmmaker François Ozon. When night falls, and the players have their eyes closed, werewolves make victims among the villagers. The film is based a board game (known as "The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow" from Zygomatic), and it's about a family that is sent back to medieval times when they start playing the game. Kind of like the Jumanji movies, where they get sucked into the game - but this has werewolves in it they must kill.

Can movie stars stay cool forever?

That seems to be the big existential question underscoring the clever, impeccably directed if rather flimsy action comedy Wolfs, which reunites Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who most memorably chummed it up together in the Ocean’s trilogy. Back then they were two of the biggest actors on the planet, and even an effort like the Coen brothers’ Burn After Reading — which marks their last onscreen team-up — grossed over $160 million while remaining totally offbeat and frankly uncommercial.

More than a decade later, both stars are in their 60s and the movie business clearly isn’t what it used to be. Case in point: Wolfs, which was supposed to be released wide by Apple, will roll out for a one-week limited theatrical run before going straight to streaming. Is it because Pitt and Clooney can no longer draw the crowds they did in their heyday?...

My Penguin Friend movie follows the real-life account of João, a simple yet solitary man living in coastal Brazil who rescues an injured Magellanic penguin after a chance encounter in the waters off Ilha Grande. Named “DinDim” by one of the local children, this intrepid bird would proceed to develop a deep affinity for João, returning annually across thousands of miles of open ocean just to spend time in his company.

Based on a heartwarming true story, My Penguin Friend (2024) promises both laughs and a good cry for the whole family. However, like the movie's animal star, the film doesnt quite soar, but it does manage to hit all the notes associated with this kind of inspirational, family-friendly fare. After all, its hard not to be delighted by the real-life inspiration for David Schurmanns feature. As the closing text reveals, a lost penguin, who really was named DinDim by those who met him, swam over 5,000 miles, from Patagonia to Brazil, for eight years.
