Over the years, Warner Bros. has experimented with different ways to make money from its vast catalog of films. It launched FilmStruck, a subscription streaming service, in 2018, but shut it down less than a year later. Since then, the company has focused on licensing movies to free, ad-supported platforms like Roku and Tubi.

Now, Warner Bros. is trying a new approach—releasing movies directly on YouTube. This move allows the studio to generate revenue through digital ads while making films more accessible to a wider audience.

The Anaconda franchise is slithering its way back to theaters with a brand new reboot movie from Sony, and the studio has officially given the project a 2025 release date this week.

Sony’s Anaconda will be unleashed on December 25, 2025.

Daniela Melchior (James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Road House) will also star in the creature feature Christmas present next year, which looks to bring a meta twist to the franchise.

“According to sources,” The Hollywood Reporter details, “the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth.

“They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.”

David Cronenberg's seminal 1986 body horror masterpiece The Fly is set to be the basis for a seemingly Nia DaCosta's Candyman style, universe expanding spin-off at 20th Century Studios. Per Deadline's reporting, Nanny filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu is actively developing, well, The Fly, on which the in-demand rising name in horror will serve as both writer and director.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s classic crime movie Pulp Fiction next month, the film is getting a new 4K Ultra HD collector’s edition (pre-order here), out December 3rd. What’s more, it will return to select theaters for a limited run.

Beloved character actor John Ashton has died at the age of 76, it has been confirmed. The prolific star of stage and screen, who made memorable turns in the likes of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise and Midnight Run during a career that spanned over half a century, passed away on Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado after a short battle with cancer.

News of Ashton's passing was shared by a rep of the actor, who issued the following statement: “John was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

John Ashton, the legendary character actor who played the curmudgeonly (but ultimately heroic) Taggart in the Beverly Hills Cop movies, has died. Ashton played Detective Sergeant John Taggart in the first two installments of the “Beverly Hills Cop” series, released in 1984 and 1987, alongside Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold. He reprised his role in 2024’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” in which his character is now a police chief.

Ashton’s acting career spanned more than 50 years. TMZ reports that Ashton died peacefully on Thursday, September 26th, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, following a battle with cancer. “John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come,” his representative told TMZ in a statement.

Ashton is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Sergeant John Taggart in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise opposite Eddie Murray’s Axel Foley. He appeared in the original 1984 film, the 1987 sequel Beverly Hills Cop II, and recently reprised the role for the 2024 Netflix-funded sequel, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Columbia Pictures is planning to squeeze new life out of the Anaconda franchise, with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican set to helm a reimagining of the 1997 giant snake horror movie.

Gormican will also co-write the script with collaborator Kevin Etten.

The project is said to have been in development at the studio since early 2023, and has gone through numerous rewrites as the "filmmaker and Columbia tried to find the right balance of tones."

It sounds like this new take on the creature feature is going to be more of a meta comedy, as "a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals."

Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star in a remake of the 1997 adventure horror movie Anaconda from Columbia Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
