Mel Brooks Was Proudest of A Scene From One of His Least Popular Comedies
Image
Mel Brooks wrote and directed three of the greatest movie comedies of all time: The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. But when Brooks was asked about his favorite scene that he ever directed, he named a comedy bit that wouldn’t come up on most fans’ top 10 lists.

“Let me give you one of my movies that I love. I’m really proud, for sure, of this insane comedy I made called Dracula: Dead and Loving It,” Brooks boasted to the Daily Beast, via Far Out.

The scene in question? “Steven Weber is driving a stake through Lysette Anthony’s heart. Mel Brooks is playing Van Helsing. I say to him, ‘Drive the stake through her heart! Hit her hard.’ So he drives the stake through her heart.”

What happens next is Python-esque in terms of gross-out physical comedy. “There’s an incredible gush, an incredible fountain of blood that sprays him.

Liam Neeson's '80s Sci-Fi Flop Is A Visual Treat That You Have To See
Image
The late Peter Yates' 1983 fantasy epic "Krull" is a fascinatingly strange bouillabaisse of ideas. Like "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," it blends medieval wizardry with high-tech science fiction. The story follows a brave hero named Colwyn (Ken Marshall) who has to rescue his kidnapped bride Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) from a giant, evil monster known only as the Beast. Tapping into the fantasy aspects of the story, Colwyn and Lyssa have shared fire superpowers, passed between them via a magical baptismal font at their wedding. Once Lyssa is kidnapped, Colwyn is tasked with finding a mystical, five-pronged weapon called the Glaive, a shuriken version of Excalibur. There is a magical shapeshifter, a cyclops, and on-screen wizardry. The Beast's Black Fortress is protected by a spell that causes it to relocate entirely every day. Liam Neeson played a jocular, axe-throwing bandit named Kegan. He was recruited by Colwyn to be a member of his fellowship.

The 5 Best Leslie Nielsen Spoof Movies Ranked
Image
For the bulk of his career, Leslie Nielsen was best known for his stern, dramatic roles. His tall stature and low voice had casting directors offering him parts as commanders, leaders, and even heavies. Many might recall Nielsen's stone-faced turn in 1956's "Forbidden Planet" as the captain in "The Poseidon Adventure," or playing a cop in the 1972 cop drama "The Bold Ones: The Protectors." In 1977's "Day of the Animals" he plays a manly outdoorsman who loses his mind and, quite darkly, declares insane dominion over animals and women. Some might recall that he can hold his breath a long time, as he declared in "Creepshow." Many will be shocked to witness Nielsen beat and assault Barbra Streisand in the 1987 drama "Nuts."

However, Nielsen did appear in a handful of comedies, most notably, playing Dr. Rumack in the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker farce "Airplane!" The parody proved that he had a talent for deadpan comedy,...

Ben Affleck’s Name Was On Harvey Weinstein’s ‘Red Flag List’ – Here’s What It Meant For His Hollywood Career
Image
In newly unsealed court documents, Ben Affleck is on Harvey Weinstein’s Red Flag List (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Ben Affleck’s name on disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein’s “Red Flag List” raised more than a few eyebrows. This newly revealed list, uncovered in unsealed court documents, held the names of people Weinstein feared might be talking to journalists about his misconduct back in 2017. As the industry reeled from the revelations that fueled the #MeToo movement, Affleck’s inclusion in this infamous document added a surprising twist to the unfolding story.

This “Red Flag List” was part of nearly 1,000 pages unsealed at a New York courthouse ahead of Weinstein’s sentencing. In those pages, Weinstein’s internal worries came to light: around 70 names of people he suspected might expose him, a mix of accusers and Hollywood insiders who knew too much. The list surfaced during Weinstein’s seven-week trial when prosecutors...

All Mel Brooks Directed Comedy Movies, Ranked
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Comedy legend Mel Brooks is a national treasure, unquestionably one of the most important and influential figures in twentieth-century American culture. Brooks began his career as a comedy writer in the late 1940s and early 1950s, first gaining recognition for his work on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows. In 1965, Brooks created the seminal television series Get Smart, which went on to win seven Emmy Awards. While it's been almost 30 years since Brooks directed a movie, his legacy lives on, and he's now producing a sequel to his iconic space comedy Spaceballs.

By the late 1960s, Brooks decided to shift his focus away from television, setting his sights on film directing. For the next 30 years, Brooks emerged as one of cinema's all-time great comedy directors through masterpieces such as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers. A man in rare company,...

The Funniest Horror Movie Parodies
Image
Horror movies have been a dominant force in cinema since the 1980s, when a slew of classic slasher franchises cultivated one of the most dedicated fan bases in pop culture. Following the stories of masked killers, haunted houses and classic works of fiction, these films have endured, thanks to some iconic characters and the love audiences have for a good scare. However, these films also have a strong tie to comedy too, especially in parody.

Of all the movie genres, few have proven as ripe for parody as horror, in large part due to the strong contrast between terror and comedy. Seeing otherwise scary stories reimagined with slapstick scenes and killers who don't take themselves too seriously can reel in new fans, while also reintroducing fans to their favorite stories through laughter. Horror parodies make for some of the best comedy movies out there, and plenty of films show why.

The 1983 Krull Wedding Promotion Was One of the Weirdest Ways to Ever Promote a Movie
Image
Most of us, if and when we think about the movie Krull, remember this film as a fun piece of wannabe, sci-fi epicness. This story of a prince (Ken Marshall) trying to save his fair maiden (Lysette Anthony) from a horde of alien invaders, is very much a movie of its time. With effects that could be replicated on an iPhone and a cool five-edged device called the Glaive to help them, Krull was apparently made for about $30 million dollars but it faded from the box office only grossing a little over half that. For many years this film took its place as a memorable piece of 80s pop culture.

Until now.

In today's age revisionist media, where everything that's true can be dispelled by an equal amount of information that also claims that mantle, the shelf-life of any story or article's believability is universally limited. However, Krull has such...

“Harvey Weinstein’s legacy will always be that he’s a convicted rapist. He is going to jail – but no amount of jail time will repair the lives he ruined, the careers he destroyed, or the damage he has caused.

Ben Affleck Was on Harvey Weinstein’s ‘Red Flag List’
Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck was on Harvey Weinstein’s “red flag list,” according to recently unsealed court documents.

Prior to the publication of bombshell reports, which ignited the #MeToo movement and led to the former movie mogul’s downfall, Weinstein kept a list of names of people he was concerned could be talking to journalists in 2017 about his sexual conduct with women. Affleck’s name appeared on that document, known as the red flag list, which was reviewed by Variety on Tuesday afternoon.

The list was part of roughly 1,000 pages of documents that were unsealed at the New York City criminal courthouse, ahead of Weinstein’s sentencing on Wednesday.

The doc was brought up during Weinstein’s seven-week trial, but only accuser Annabella Sciorra’s name was revealed to be on the list. The lead prosecutor requested that the list (which included both men and women) be provided to the jury so...

Harvey Weinstein Accusers React to Rape Conviction: ‘We’re Never Going Back’
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
Validation, relief, gratitude and pride — those were some of the emotions expressed by a group of women who came forward with allegations of sexual assault at the hands of Harvey Weinstein in response to the disgraced producer’s conviction on Monday for rape and sexual assault.

The group of more than 20 women held a conference call Monday afternoon to share their reaction to the news earlier in the day that the once-powerful movie producer will likely face a minimum of five years in prison after being convicted on two of the five sexual assault charges he was facing.

“Today is a powerful day and a huge step forward in collective healing,” said Rose McGowan, who has accused Weinstein of raping her in 1997.

“The era of impunity for powerful men who rape people is over,” said Mira Sorvino, an Oscar-winning actor who saw her career derailed after allegedly rebuffing Weinstein’s advances.

Harvey Weinstein Rape Trial Is “Moment Of Reckoning,” Ashley Judd & Rose McGowan Declare
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
A group of Harvey Weinstein’s alleged victims has issued a statement condemning remarks made by his attorney Friday night on ABC’s Nightline.

Weinstein appeared in a Manhattan court Friday for a bail hearing. Prosecutors sought to have his bail increased to $5 million from its current $1 million, arguing he violated his terms by allegedly tampering with an ankle monitor. Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to allegations of rape and sexual assault. He’s scheduled for a follow-up hearing on Wednesday.

The ongoing legal battle appears to be taking a toll on Weinstein’s health. He looked haggard upon exiting the court house and had to be supported by two aides to make it into a waiting vehicle. That night, ABC’s Nightline aired a segment featuring Weinstein attorney Donna Rotunno, who maintained that anything her client did was consensual. In response, 21 women who came forward and claimed they were...

NBC Denies Blocking Ronan Farrow’s Harvey Weinstein Expose: ‘Outright Lie’
NBC News on Thursday night denied an accusation by a former producer that top executives tried to block Ronan Farrow’s 2017 exposé of Harvey Weinstein, calling the claim “an outright lie.”

“The assertion that NBC News tried to kill the Weinstein story while Ronan Farrow was at NBC News, or even more ludicrously, after he left NBC News, is an outright lie,” read the NBC statement.

Earlier Thursday, Rich McHugh, a producer formerly of the NBC News investigative unit, told the New York Times that people at “the very highest levels of NBC” worked to quash the story at the network.

McHugh said the network was “resistant” during the eight months or so that he and Farrow investigated Weinstein for the story. But in August 2017, when they were set to begin recording the accounts of Weinstein accusers on video, McHugh said the network abruptly pulled support.

Asia Argento Fired From ‘X Factor Italy’ Following Sexual Assault Accusation
Asia Argento at an event for Dracula 3D (2012)
Asia Argento has been let go from “X Factor Italy,” according to the Australian AP. The actress will not appear on the current season’s upcoming live shows after a report last week said Argento paid $380,000 to a 17-year-old boy she is accused of having a sexual encounter with in 2013.

A week ago, producers of the singing competition said the following in a statement. Readers will have to forgive some of the Italian-to-English translation.

Sky Italia and FremantleMedia Italia have read today with great attention and in astonishment the news regarding Asia Argento published by the New York Times.

It should be made clear that Sky Italia and Fremantle did not pick Asia Argento as a judge of X Factor Italy for her commitment to the #Metoo campaign, nor for her personal stances, but rather – as it has always been the case when it came to choose the judges of...
