Daniel Day-Lewis
Drink it up! All 21 Daniel Day-Lewis films – ranked
Daniel Day-Lewis
The triple Oscar winner has retired from the profession twice – and returned twice. Ahead of Anemone, directed by his son Ronan, we gorge on Day-Lewis’s back catalogue

Perhaps keen not to be pigeonholed in high-fibre roles, Daniel Day-Lewis took on a pair of zany culture-clash comedies that featured him singing in a bubble bath. In Stars and Bars, he is a prim English art expert who travels to the American south to retrieve a Renoir from its owner (Harry Dean Stanton) and butts heads with various irksome oddballs. Playing the sort of nitwit that would become Hugh Grant’s meal-ticket, Day-Lewis proves that wackiness is not in his wheelhouse.

The Ring Girl, Daveigh Chase: What Is She Doing Now in Hollywood?
Image
Daveigh Chase is most popularly known for her iconic horror role in the 2002 film, The Ring, where she played the terrifying Samara Morgan. For her role in the film, she won the Best Villain award at the 2003 MTV Awards, beating out veterans like Mike Myers, Colin Farrell, Willem Dafoe, and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Despite her early fame in Hollywood, Chase couldn’t stay long enough in the industry. She last acted in or voiced a role in films, TV, or video games in the year 2016. Following the film American Romance, her career appeared to have come to a pause. At this point, fans can only guess that the actress has possibly retired from Hollywood.

Over the last decade, Chase has been largely away from the public eye. She doesn’t have any social media presence as of now. Daveigh Chase’s Instagram feed was last updated in November 2017. Her feed was...

Timothée Chalamet Eyeing New Heist Thriller With 'A Complete Unknown' Director
Image
Timothée Chalametis determined to reunite with A Complete Unknown director James Mangold, an exciting new heist thriller could be their next project. The movie star-filmmaker combo has a movie pitch that is getting major buzz around Hollywood, and it could ignite if the right partner is found.

Deadline reports that Chalamet and Mangold are eyeing High Side as their next collaboration, a racing thriller based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira. Chernin Entertainment, who has frequently partnered up with 20th Century Studios, is attached to produce, but it seems the project is nothing more than a pitch at this stage. However, if it gets picked up, expect Chalamet and Mangold to reunite for the film. If both are indeed involved, we don't imagine it will take long for a studio to bite with a major offer to acquire the package. Chalamet would play a former race driver who gets involved with high-speed robberies.

Jay Kelly: George Clooney Doesn’t Want You To Call Adam Sandler ‘Sand Man’ in Next Movie
Image
George Clooney has made one thing clear ahead of Jay Kelly’s world premiere, and that’s to put some respect on Adam Sandler’s name! Yes, these two Hollywood heavyweights are now co-stars in Noah Baumbach’s upcoming dramedy.

Clooney is set to lead the movie as the titular character, and he doesn’t want to tolerate any lazy nicknames or labels for his co-star. The veteran actor made this quite clear during his conversation with Vanity Fair.

Don’t call him Sand Man. Don’t talk to him like he’s just some goofy comedian

So, Clooney isn’t just winning at being the most humble and wholesome actor in the industry because he might just win a third Oscar! And Sandler will hopefully have an overdue lead into awards glory.

Quentin Tarantino Calling Paul Dano a “Compromise” in the 3rd Best Movie of the 21st Century Aged Poorly
Image
There Will Be Blood has widely been regarded as one of the greatest films of all time and has earned the third spot on the 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century list (via The New York Times). But Quentin Tarantino has a bone to pick with it, and it specifically has to do with Paul Dano’s performance.

The Paul Thomas Anderson directorial stars the three-time Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis as Daniel Plainview, and Dano plays dual roles, as Paul and Eli Sunday. Most would say that Dano was absolutely amazing in the film, but during a segment with Sky Movies, Tarantino expressed his disapproval (via James Whale Bake Sale).

Not that the performance is bad, there’s nothing bad about it, it just does seem a compromise.

While Tarantino praised the movie overall, his dismissal of such a brilliant performer sparked debate. So, let’s look at how Dano nailed the role,...

Liam Neeson Asked Steven Spielberg To Fire Him From A Movie After A Table Read
Image
Steven Spielberg and Liam Neeson worked together on the 1993 classic "Schindler's List" (seen above). The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who hopes to keep his factories open even as the Nazi party comes to power in Germany. He pays off Nazi officials to employ Jewish workers, effectively shielding them from the Nazi death camps. It takes him some time to realize that he's doing something heroic. He soon begins over-employing his factories, pointedly saving as many Jewish people as possible. At the end of the war, he is said to have saved about 1,200 people.

Neeson's performance was sensitive and tragic, and it earned the actor his only Oscar nomination to date. It seemed logical that Neeson and Spielberg should want to work together again at some point, but it took many years for the appropriate project to manifest. In 2005, it was reported by Variety that the project had been found.

“Gangs of New York” TV
Director/producer Martin Scorsese, continues developing his 2002 period crime feature "The Gangs of New York", as an episodic dramatic TV series, with the original feature, now playing on Tubi:

The new series will focus on events surrounding organized gangs in the late 19th century, including ‘William Poole’, Aja ‘Bill The Butcher’, the real life psycho gangster leader, originally played by Daniel Day-Lewis.

"This time and era of America’s history and heritage is rich with characters and stories that we could not fully explore in a two hour film," said Scorsese.

"A television series allows us the time and creative freedom to bring this colorful world, and all the implications it had and still does on our society, to life…”

“In 1863, ‘Amsterdam Vallon’ returns to the ‘Five Points of America’ to seek vengeance against the psychotic gangland kingpin, ‘Bill the Butcher’, who murdered his father years earlier.

Daily Framed Solution For Today
Image
Unlike other daily challenges, Framed presents itself as a series of puzzles that must be decoded in an attempt to correctly guess the name of the movie in question. These puzzles are based on both niche and popular movies, which might throw certain players off while attempting to solve them.

As such, I will be listing the results for all 4 of today’s Framed puzzles – in no particular order, along with a breakdown of the entire problem-solving procedure. Let’s get started.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for Framed ahead! Framed Classic Solution for Today Image Credits: Framed/FandomWire

‘Unicorns’ Review: Ben Hardy and Jason Patel Make for a Rare Pair in Gay Culture-Clash Drama
Image
Just as “My Beautiful Laundrette” launched a little-known English actor named Daniel Day-Lewis, the London-set “Unicorns” spotlights up-and-coming talent Ben Hardy (whose minor roles in “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “X-Men: Apocalypse” don’t begin to suggest his potential). But “Unicorns” and “Laundrette” have more in common than just a compelling lead performer: Forty years after Stephen Frears’ cross-cultural queer romance, neither homophobia nor xenophobia has much abated in the U.K. That makes it tricky to predict quite where the attraction felt by Luke (Hardy), a rugged white boy from Essex, toward a South Asian drag queen (Jason Patel) will take us.

Co-directors Sally El Hosaini and James Krishna Floyd’s scrappy drama shows enormous heart, but it’s the lead actors and their disparate identities that distinguish an otherwise familiar LGBT-themed indie. Hardy has big blue eyes and a boyish-looking face, which balance out Luke’s brutish body language. He’s introduced having coarse,...

My Beautiful Laundrette review – landmark critique of Thatcher’s Britain with a larky Ealing air
Daniel Day-Lewis
Rerelease of funny-sad tale of a laundry madeover by a young south Asian man and his love interest (Daniel Day-Lewis) is a unique subversion of 1980s UK politics

‘The jewel in the jacksie of south London this place’ll be!” Now getting a 40th anniversary rerelease, this classic Brit comedy from screenwriter Hanif Kureishi and director Stephen Frears has for me the jaunty spirit of Ealing, maybe because the bleeping, burping, bubbling musical theme feels like a recurrent motif in The Man in the White Suit. It’s a vibrant, funny, complicated allegory of a down-at-heel launderette in a dreary London parade of shops, which gets laundered and cleaned up by south Asians who are subjected to nothing but racist abuse. It was formerly called Churchill’s Laundrette and now cheekily renamed Powders, in homage to washing powder or to income from a different powder which this place is going to launder.

Jamie Lee Curtis Plans to Quit Hollywood: 5 Actors Who ‘Self-Retired’ Like Her
Image
Jamie Lee Curtis just proved she’s always one step ahead. While most stars are figuring things out as they go, the 66-year-old icon revealed to The Guardian that she’s been planning her Hollywood exit for 30 years. That’s right, that’s three decades of strategizing while others scramble to stay relevant.

Her game plan is simple yet effective. Get out before they kick you out. Smart, right? She watched her famous parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, struggle with Hollywood’s brutal ageism. Curtis thus has been “self-retiring” bit by bit, making sure she leaves on her own terms. She explained,

I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age. I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful,...

‘Monster’ Season 4 Casts Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, and Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan
Image
“Monster” Season 4, which will focus on Lizzie Borden, has found its leading lady.

Variety has confirmed that Ella Beatty will star as Lizzie in the fourth season of the Netflix anthology series. In addition, Rebecca Hall has been cast as Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby Borden, while Vicky Krieps will play Bridget Sullvan, a maid in the Borden household.

The fourth season of “Monster” was first reported to be in the works back in early July. “Monster” Season 3, which will star Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein, is believed to be releasing later in 2025.

Lizzie Borden lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. In 1892, she was accused of murdering both her father and her stepmother with an axe at their shared home. Borden was eventually acquitted of the crimes, but the brutal nature of the murders attracted nationwide attention and contributed to Borden’s place in popular culture.

The case has been...

Burning Oscars questions heading into Venice, TIFF, and Telluride
Image
As fall festival lineups are revealed, the awards race comes into focus. This week saw major announcements from the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, making the rest of the year for Oscar watchers a bit clearer on which movies will be vying for the top awards.

But some mysteries remain. As release dates loom and Telluride remains tight-lipped as usual, a number of presumed Oscar contenders are question marks at the moment.

Here are the questions we're asking as we look ahead at the end-of-the-year film festival line-ups.

Will A House of Dynamite blow up?

The fall release with equal amounts of buzz and mystery surrounding it has to be Kathryn Bigelow's first film in eight years, A House of Dynamite. The movie, which stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Greta Lee, was announced by its distributor, Netflix, a little over a month ago with...

Why Gangs Of New York Almost Made Martin Scorsese Quit Directing
Image
In 1928, author Herbert Asbury published "The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld," which rapidly became something of an underground classic. There was good reason for this: Asbury's account of the gangs of old New York was rather detailed and colorful, cobbled together with the help of myth, historical research, exaggerated first-person accounts, dodgy memory, and police records. The scope was vast too, tracing the turbulent nature of gang wars in the area that led up to the rise of the Mafia, while also providing a rogues gallery of individuals who were infamous for one reason or the other.

42 years after Asbury's book was first published, Martin Scorsese became fascinated with its subject matter, but didn't have the means to adapt it at the time. An up-and-coming director who had recently released his debut feature, Scorsese set his sights on other projects, diligently working towards cementing his name.

‘The Studio’s Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg Recruit Guest Star Sarah Polley As Season 2 Writer; Ron Howard Says He Would Return “In A Heartbeat”
Image
Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg’s Apple TV+ show The Studio is top of the comedy tree right now with a whopping 23 Emmy nominations – among them, best comedy series, lead actor in a comedy for Rogen, writing, and multiple guest star nominations, including Ron Howard, in the director’s first ever Emmy nom.

Following Tuesday morning’s nominations announcement, Rogen, Goldberg and Howard chatted to Deadline about the show’s impact and their hopes for what will come in Season 2 of the show following the calamitous career of studio head Matt Remick (Rogen).

A hallmark of The Studio is its laundry list of big-name guest stars, from Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese, to Olivia Wilde, Zac Efron, Ice Cube and Sarah Polley.

“My biggest fear is people are just going to be humiliated in the wake of working with us,” said Rogen, “so I think the fact that so many...

The Studio Sets an Exciting New Emmy Record (& Beats Ted Lasso)
Image
Hollywood satire The Studiohas set a new record at the Emmys. The Seth Rogen-fronted show pulled in a whopping 23 Emmy nominations in its freshman year, passing the mark previously set by fellow Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso.

Per Variety, Ted Lasso scored a grand total of 20 Emmy nominations when it first came on the scene, and went home with seven Emmys, including acting awards for Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jason Sudeikis. Those wins massively increased the profiles of both the stars and the series -- so if The Studio wins big, it could follow in Ted Lasso's footsteps and become one of TV's biggest shows.

The Studio is created by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez. It follows the fortunes of studio head Matt Remick (played by Rogen), who just wants to make movies -- but finds this desire doesn't always line up with the need to make money.

Johnny Galecki Based His Big Bang Theory Character On A Real Person
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Actors all have a process, right? Method performers like Daniel Day-Lewis, Christian Bale, and, uh, Jared Leto go to pretty extreme lengths to find truth and reality in their performances, often living as their characters to really delve into their fictional psyches. As Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard Hofstadter on "The Big Bang Theory" for the show's entire run, told Jessica Radloff in her book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," he also took a very thorough approach to creating his character on Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's hit CBS series. Though Galecki didn't go full Method, he did utilize childhood memories ... and an unexpected animal.

"I grew up with Tommy from the age of seven," Galecki told Radloff of his childhood friend Tommy Loeper, who apparently inspired Leonard. "He had a...

A J.K. Rowling Burn Is Educating ‘Harry Potter’ Fans on the Ira
Image
That adage, “please read other books” about Harry Potter fans has a new dimension now. I have specific recommendations. Harry Potter fans need to pick up Tim Pat Coogan’s The Troubles or Patrick Radden Keefe’s Say Nothing. Hell, you can stream Daniel Day-Lewis in In the Name of the Father or watch Derry Girls. Anything really, to get caught up on an essential plot point of 20th century history.

Why? A tweet pointing out that the Irish character Seamus Finnigan constantly exploding is informing a lot of people, for the very first time, about the existence of the Irish Republican Army and some pretty offensive Irish stereotypes.

The quote tweets on this were many variations of “No fucking way Irish people have a terrorist stereotype,” and “J.K. Rowling so racist I’m learning about stereotypes I never even knew about.” It’s kind of incredible, to think that...

Stellan Skarsgard Talks About ‘Nazi’ Ingmar Bergman: ‘He Was the Only Person I Know Who Cried When Hitler Died’
Image
Stellan Skarsgård opened up about working with Ingmar Bergman at Karlovy Vary Film Festival.

“My complicated relationship with Bergman has to do with him not being a very nice guy. He was a nice director, but you can still denounce a person as an asshole. Caravaggio was probably an asshole as well, but he did great paintings,” said the Swedish actor.

“Bergman was manipulative. He was a Nazi during the war and the only person I know who cried when Hitler died. We kept excusing him, but I have a feeling he had a very weird outlook on other people. [He thought] some people were not worthy. You felt it, when he was manipulating others. He wasn’t nice.”

Skarsgård, in town to present “Sentimental Value” and pick up Crystal Globe award at the festival, also discussed Joachim Trier’s latest film.

“I’ve seen him really see the actors he’s worked with.

Michael Mann is set to receive the Lumiere Award at the 17th edition of the Lumière Festival in Lyon this fall. The festival, headed by Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux, celebrates classic films and honors iconic filmmakers and actors every year.

Interview with the Vampire: How Tom Cruise shocked everyone with his Lestat

There are a handful of human beings, fictional or real, who you simply don’t dare doubt their ability to accomplish something they set their minds to.

Rocky Balboa. Michael Jordan. Michael Myers? Tom Cruise just wrapped an unforgettable run in his Mission: Impossible series with The Final Reckoning and closed the book on nearly thirty years of breathing that rare air on both fronts: in fiction as Ethan Hunt and in the real world as himself. Dangling off planes and diving off motorcycles past the age of sixty years old while single handedly keeping the blockbuster action movie spectacle alive. While his character literally saved the world and accomplished the impossible again and again, and again to the point where we are going to have to make up a new word for impossible because it just doesn’t hold any weight once Ethan Hunt was through. Sign of Change: How Marlee Matlin Redefined Acting and Disability in Hollywood
Image
Sensitivity Warning: This article explores the evolving conversations around representation in Hollywood, including historically harmful practices of casting today. Its purpose is to reflect on where we’ve been- and where we’re going. The Question The most recent use of blackface in an American film I can think of is in ‘Tropic Thunder,’ where it’s deployed in a genius twist of satire: a white, Australian method actor (played by Robert Downey Jr.) undergoes a pigment-altering surgery to play an African-American man. To this day, the comedy catches major flack- arguably more flack than the character receives within the world of the movie- essentially being derided for what some argue is the fundamental reprehensibility of blackface, even when used as a device to mock the offensive practice itself. Alternatively, blackface has been employed metatextually, for the sake of misunderstanding- a fundamental comedic device that dates back to the Greeks.

The Director With the Most Movies After Nolan in ‘Best Films of the 21st Century’ Hasn’t Won a Single Oscar
Image
What if we told you that one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, with not one, not two, but four films on The New York Times’ list of the “Best Films of the 21st Century,” has never won an Oscar? Sounds wild, right? Welcome to the bittersweet world of Paul Thomas Anderson—cinema’s ultimate underdog genius. While Christopher Nolan rightfully takes the crown with five epic entries and an Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Anderson is right behind him, quietly owning the list with his four iconic works.

From classics like There Will Be Blood, and the hauntingly beautiful Phantom Thread, four of Paul Thomas Anderson’s projects made it into the list, and yet the director got snubbed at every Oscar season. Even Daniel Day-Lewis won an Academy Award for There Will Be Blood, but Anderson was left clapping in the audience, empty-handed. Perhaps the Academy just isn...

From heart-wrenching dramas to pulse-pounding action, this list spans genres and cultures, reflecting the diverse tastes of those who craft cinema. Let’s dive into the films that left a mark, starting from the bottom and working our way to the top.

30. Lost in Translation (2003) American Zoetrope

Sofia Coppola’s ‘Lost in Translation’ captures the quiet beauty of fleeting connections. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson shine as two lonely souls finding solace in Tokyo’s neon glow.

The film’s subtle humor and tender moments make it a timeless exploration of isolation and friendship. Its dreamy soundtrack and intimate pacing linger long after the credits roll.

Karlovy Vary to Tribute Stellan Skarsgård, Vicky Krieps, Dakota Johnson, and Peter Sarsgaard
Image
The 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 4-12) boasts not one but two competitions, the Crystal Globe and Proxima, curated by artistic director Karel Och under the supervision of executive director Kryštof Mucha. The festival is the main summer event in the country, which attracts many sponsors and patrons who want to attend, and faces fewer financial hardships than such festivals as Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance.

Last year, 130 films were shown and 140,000 tickets sold. There is little room for growth, given the limited venues, from the many screening rooms at the festival hub, the Hotel Thermal, where jurors hang out between screenings, to the colorful arthouse Kino Drahomira, named after a revered Czech woman director.

The Central European festival falls between Cannes and Venice, and programs many films in its Crystal Globe Competition that did not make the cut at Cannes, as well as films that weren’t yet finished.

Why These 5 Oscar-Winning Legends Avoid Sequels at All Costs
Image
At times, sequels are planned and necessary to give you closure, but in today’s age, they are usually cash grabs and not everyone’s cup of tea. While the industry thrives on the multi-million dollar success of a follow-up, creatives who are dedicated to their art avoid hollow sequels like the plague.

Some of the most respected actors in Hollywood, with multiple Oscar wins, have never starred in a sequel. Instead, they’ve chosen transformative roles and still stood the test of time in a franchise-dominated age. So here are the five legendary actors who carved out careers on their own terms!

1) Leonardo DiCaprio refuses to be tied down Leonardo DiCaprio in a still from The Revenant | Credits: Regency Enterprises

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood, yet he has said no to sequels. He has constantly chosen standalone movies, and even though the actor...

A Batman Voice Actor Almost Starred In The Worst Live-Action Caped Crusader Movie
Image
The late Val Kilmer starred in "Batman Forever," and that was the only time he appeared as the Caped Crusader. Many will defend Kilmer as an undersung Batman, but some reported communication issues and the rush to make the sequel "Batman & Robin" saw Kilmer replaced by George Clooney.

"Batman & Robin" is notoriously bad. Its "worst movie ever" reputation has been firmed up by internet hyperbole, to be sure, but it is a bad film. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige considers "Batman & Robin" one of the most important superhero movies because, in his words, "It was so bad that it demanded a new way of [making superhero films]."

Clooney is my least favorite live-action Batman, and I'm not alone in saying that. He's a great actor in general, but he was wrong for that part. (He's more of a Superman.) In the hustle to replace Kilmer as Batman, Clooney wasn't the only actor who Schumacher considered.

Tom Cruise Stole This Vampire Role From John Travolta & Turned It Into A Cult Classic!
Image
Tom Cruise In Interview With The Vampire (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

Tom Cruise may not have been Anne Rice’s dream choice for Lestat in Interview with the Vampire, but he sure ended up stealing the entire show and the box office. Back in the early days, though, that sharp-toothed role nearly had a very different smile behind it. In 1976, right when the ink was barely dry on her novel, Rice sold the rights. And for a while, John Travolta hovered near the top of the studio’s casting wishlist (via Eonline).

Things only got more chaotic from there. Mel Gibson and Richard Gere had their names tossed around. Then came Daniel Day-Lewis, who politely turned it down like a true shapeshifter. Studios were circling the idea for years but stayed on pause until Bram Stoker’s Dracula made bank in 1992. Rice wasn’t thrilled about their hesitation. In 1993, she didn’t hold back,...

Damson Idris Drops Major Hint About Taking Over as Black Panther — Is It Official?
Image
Speculation about the future of Black Panther is heating up, and actor Damson Idris is at the center of it. During a lively “yes or no” game on NBC’s Today show, host Craig Melvin asked the 33-year-old F1: The Movie star if he’d spoken to Marvel about taking on the role of T’Challa. Idris groaned and replied, “Yes-no!”

Melvin pushed back, saying, “By the way, the yes-no means yes,” to which Idris countered, “Uh, it could mean no!” But when asked if he’d accept the role if offered, Idris was clear: “Yes.”

The exchange reignited rumors that started in January when The InSneider reported Marvel might recast T’Challa, despite earlier statements that Chadwick Boseman’s iconic role wouldn’t be replaced after his passing.

Damson Idris Breaks Silence on Black Panther Rumors — Fans Think He Just Confirmed It
Image
Damson Idris is once again in the middle of the Black Panther rumor storm, and his recent appearance on NBC’s Today show definitely didn’t quiet things down.

The 33-year-old F1: The Movie star was playing a quick “yes or no” game with co-host Craig Melvin when the topic of Marvel came up. Melvin asked him straight-up if he’s had any conversations about taking over the role of T’Challa in a future Black Panther film. Idris reacted with a groan and blurted out, “Yes-no!”

Melvin didn’t let it slide. “By the way, the yes-no means yes,” he said, to which Idris responded, “Uh, it could mean no!” But when asked directly if he’d accept the role if offered, Idris didn’t hesitate: “Yes.”

Black Panther: Damson Idris Hints That He Has Spoken To Marvel About Taking Over T'Challa Role
Image
The recent report that Marvel Studios' may be searching for an actor to take over from the late Chadwick Boseman as a new take on T'Challa in the MCU led to several names being churned out by the rumor mill, including Damson Idris.

The up-and-coming British Snowfall star - who has a key role in this week's F1: The Movie alongside Brad Pitt - was said to be one of the actors who passed on the opportunity to play T'Challa, and was asked about the rumor on social media shortly after.

Idris jokingly responded (though not everyone picked up on the sarcasm) that he also "turned down 007, A co-lead film with Daniel Day Lewis and an Eddie Murphy biopic."

However, it seems there may have been at least some truth to the rumor.

While visiting Today (via EW), Idris was asked to participate in a game in which he...

‘F1’ Star, 33, Hints at Replacing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa in ‘Black Panther 3'
Image
Is Damson Idris about to suit up as the King of Wakanda? The F1 star just added more heat to the long-burning rumors that he could be the next T’Challa in Black Panther 3 — and while he’s not confirming it, he’s definitely not denying it either. Appearing on Today on Wednesday, the 33-year-old actor was asked point-blank by co-anchor Craig Melvin if there was any truth to the whispers. “There’s some speculation out there in the universe that you could be cast as the next Black Panther,” Melvin said during a round of yes-or-no questions. “Have you had any conversations about that? Yes or no?”

Idris groaned — loudly — then offered a cheeky “Yes-no!” in response, doing his best to dodge the question while still giving fans just enough to latch onto. Melvin, of course, didn’t let him off the hook that easily. “By the way, the yes-no means yes,...

Tom Cruise finally gets his (honorary) Oscar moment: Here’s his complete awards history
Image
Tom Cruise's next mission, should he choose to accept it, will be to collect an honorary Oscar.

The 62-year-old actor has been announced as one of the recipients of the 2025 Governors Awards alongside choreographer-artist Debbie Allen, production designer Wynn Thomas, and singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, the latter of whom will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. The awards will be handed out on Nov. 16 in Los Angeles.

Cruise rose to fame in the 1980s as the star of several teen movies before blowing up in Top Gun (1986) and becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. He followed with a string of popcorn films that included Interview With the Vampire (1994), Minority Report (2002), War of the Worlds (2005), and the Mission: Impossible franchise (eight films between 2000 and 2025). While those types of films rarely result in trophy wins, Cruise still has a storied awards history that goes back decades.

How Did Harry Potter Star Gary Oldman Get the Crown’s Highest Honor? Details Inside
Image
Hollywood veteran Gary Oldman has earned more than just a few credits and honors up his name, but this latest one is inevitably surpassing all his records by far. This is because the fan-beloved Harry Potter alum has been bestowed with the Crown’s highest honor by none other than the current ruling monarch of the UK, King Charles III himself.

This is, of course, a spectacular milestone achieved by the actor, who has contributed significantly to cinema and the entertainment world. But fans might be thinking about what honor he received and why exactly he received it, not to mention, if any other actors received the same honor as well. That said, here’s your guidebook about the same!

Just call him Sir Gary Oldman: The iconic actor is “gobsmacked” after being knighted by King Charles
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman, or should I say, Sir Gary Oldman, has been awarded a knighthood for his services to drama by King Charles in this year’s Birthday Honours list. While speaking with Deadline ahead of the official announcement, Oldman said, “It’s actually sort of mind-boggling. I’m gobsmacked.“

“To be included in the long lineage of extraordinary actors, artists, and others who hold this title fills me with indescribable humility and pride,” Oldman said in an official statement. “It is emotional, humbling and flattering all at the same time to be recognized amongst them.“

Oldman told Deadline that he was thinking of acting legends such as Sir Michael Caine, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Sir Kenneth Branagh, Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Judi Dench, and Sir Anthony Hopkins when he received the knighthood. In fact, he once spoke with Hopkins about his knighthood after noticing that the actor only uses “Sir” when he’s in the U.

Gary Oldman Knighted By King Charles; Samantha Morton & Adjoa Andoh Among Others Honored
Image
Arise, Sir Gary Oldman! The Oscar-winning Darkest Hour and Slow Horses actor has been knighted by King Charles III in the monarch’s birthday honors.

Oldman has been knighted for his services to drama — the first time he has received a royal accolade for his body of distinguished work. He joins contemporaries including Sir Kenneth Branagh and Sir Daniel Day-Lewis in receiving recognition from Buckingham Palace.

Oldman was last year asked about why he had not been previously honored, telling BBC News that he had not turned down an accolade. “You should ask them. No nod from the royals, but there we are,” he said. “Maybe it’s in my future.”

Oldman was one of 1,215 people to receive recognition from King Charles, with many names from the world of film, TV, and theater making the list. Also knighted was Rufus Norris, the outgoing director of the National Theatre, for his services to stage.

Arise, Sir Gary Oldman! Exclusive Interview With ‘Slow Horses’ Star About His Knighthood: “I’m Gobsmacked”
Image
Exclusive: Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman was awarded a knighthood Friday in King Charles’ Birthday Honours. In an exclusive interview conducted ahead of the official announcement, the star told Deadline: ”It’s actually sort of mind-boggling. I’m gobsmacked.”

During our interview, I joked that he has served Queen, King and country as Gary Oldman and onscreen in such roles as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, which won him his Academy Award in 2018; and as fictional British intelligence officer George Smiley in film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; and as the Falstaffian Jackson Lamb in Apple’s Slow Horses.

“Yeah, I’ve served the crown,” he said laughing down the line from his home in Palm Springs.

Colin Trevorrow Talks Producing ‘Deep Cover,’ the Return of ‘Jurassic World’ and Star Wars Detachment
Image
Colin Trevorrow has his eye on the next generation of filmmakers.

After shepherding his Jurassic World trilogy to the box-office tune of nearly $4 billion worldwide, the filmmaker turned his attention to his production banner, Metronome Film Company. Trevorrow’s mission is to create opportunities for up-and-coming filmmakers in the same way that Steven Spielberg once did for him on 2015’s Jurassic World.

“Because I’ve had some success in my career, my absolute top priority is not just paying it forward, but also being able to introduce new talent to move us forward,” Trevorrow tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We don’t have farm teams in Hollywood, and I think that it’s a responsibility of filmmakers to identify who’s next. A lot of these icons that we have now were identified by another filmmaker, and that’s something I would love to have on my record.”

Around 15 years ago,...

Deep Cover (2025) ‘Tribeca’ Movie Review: A Hysterical, Crisply Written Comedy of Errors that Hits All the Right Notes
Image
Tom Kingsley’s “Deep Cover” (2025) offers Bryce Dallas Howard something that Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle” couldn’t: an investigative thriller plot that actually makes sense. Kingsley’s film has such a watertight script that no moment feels dull or dragged. It knows how to use every character without resorting to convoluted twists for the sake of cheap thrills. It also understands the strengths of its central cast to make the most of their skills. Take Nick Mohammed, for example. He is one of the breakout stars of “Ted Lasso,” who portrayed Nathan Shelly as an eternally petrified but well-meaning man, whose vulnerability ends up being his strength.

Kingsley’s film casts Mohammed in a fairly similar role, who is tired of being treated like garbage and feeling like a lost cause. It also casts Howard in a role that makes use of her casual liveliness, which helps underline her character’s internal pathos.

Adrien Brody Starved for the Oscar Role, but The Handmaid’s Tale Star Was Roman Polanski’s 1st Choice
Image
Fans saw Adrien Brody take way too long to finish his Oscar speech on the stage after he won Best Actor for The Brutalist, but it was not the first time he cut the orchestra. Brody did the same when he won his first Oscar for The Pianist, and he even kissed Halle Berry unannounced when he received the award.

Brody’s performance in the World War II drama has been received positively, and he was the youngest actor to win the Oscar. He reportedly starved himself and gave up many of his possessions to get into the zone of pianist Władysław Szpilman. However, Joseph Fiennes was reportedly first considered for the role.

Jim Sheridan’s ‘Re-creation’ Puts One of Ireland’s Most Troubling Murder Cases Back on Trial
Image
For Jim Sheridan, the defense of the falsely accused isn’t just a theme — it’s a calling embedded deep in his DNA. “My mother blamed herself for killing her mother, who died in childbirth,” says the Irish director and playwright. “So it was inherent in me. In the womb, from the fucking start, this feeling for the wrongly accused.”

That unwavering obsession, one that has powered the six-time Oscar nominee’s career—from In the Name of the Father (1993), starring Daniel Day-Lewis as wrongly convicted Ira suspect Gerry Conlon, to his latest project Re-creation, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday—traces back to what Sheridan calls his “pre-natal sense of guilt.”

“Whenever that happens,” he says, “when I see somebody wrongly accused, it just flips a switch, and I go nuts, you know? I can’t deal with it.”

With Re-creation, Sheridan and...

15 Ridiculous Demands Actors Made Behind-The-Scenes
Image
Many celebrities have a reputation for being severely difficult to work with. For the especially A-list members of the entertainment industry, it's not uncommon for them to have unreasonable requests towards people who work for them, whether it's to never make direct eye contact or to have frivolous amenities in their dressing rooms. Not all actors are so high maintenance, but for some, they have very specific demands, especially when they know they're lending serious star power to a project.

Some actors had demands so unreasonable that they hated working with their directors, while others stood their ground in wanting something and not only got their way, but the movie or TV show may have even been better off for it. In other situations, actors were their own worst enemies, and the final products speak for themselves. For these 15 actors, their ridiculous demands behind the scenes of famous projects are...

X-men Reboot Production Company Name May Point To A Fresh Start For The MCU
Image
Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is slowly taking shape, with writer Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) set to bring a new team of mutants into the MCU.

Casting rumours persist, with Daniel Day-Lewis recently named as a possibility for Magneto and Bryan Cranston potentially in the running for Professor X. However, as the movie isn't expected to be released until 2028 at the earliest, it will be a while before the cast is officially revealed.

Today, we've learned that the reboot's production company is called "Atlas Hall Productions." This comes after the movie's working title was unearthed as "Chunnel."

A company like this being set up for an MCU movie isn't anything unusual; in the case of Avengers: Doomsday, for example, its production company is named "For All Time Productions." That's seemingly a nod to Loki and the Tva, both of...
