The mythology of the "Highlander" movies started pretty simply, spinning centuries-old tales of knight-errantry into a modern fable of magical immortality. Russel Mulcahy's 1986 original laid out the rules clearly: hiding among ordinary humans is a species of magical immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When one Immortal decapitates another, they absorb their victim's life energy, becoming stronger and more exhilarated. The legend goes that when there is only one Immortal remaining on Earth, they will be granted a wish called The Prize. The central Immortal of the series, a 16th century Highlander named Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), wishes more than anything to grow old.

The Highlander reboot script development is "extraordinary" according to Henry Cavill, who will star in the film. Cavill is a big fan of the Highlander franchise, especially the "lore" in the TV series. While very little information has been revealed by way of plot or cast for Highlander, the film will be directed by Chad Stahelski.

For the first time, Lionsgate will be launching sales at the AFM on their long-gestating fantasy reboot which has Henry Cavill aboard to star as the eponymous Scottish swordsman and John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski set to direct.

Hollywood star Henry Cavill is in talks to essay a starring role in the "Highlander" reboot. "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski will direct the film, sources told deadline.com, while Kerry Williamson has penned the script.

The original 1986 "Highlander" film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another and collecting power.

The catchphrase of the film - "There can be only one" - became popular, and there were four sequels and three television series including a hit series starring Adrian Paul.

The plot of the new film is being kept under wraps, as well as whether Cavill will play a brand new character or a character from previous projects if he signs the film.

The reboot has been in development for a while with names like Ryan Reynolds and "Fast & Furious 9" director Justin Lin being associated with the project at some point.

Henry Cavill is in early talks to star in one of the two lead roles in Chad Stahelski’s “Highlander” reboot, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis are producing, while Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger and Gregory Widen will executive produce.

The original 1986 “Highlander” film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown, and was directed by Russell Mulcahy. It chronicled the ages-old war between immortal warriors. The Highlander films were largely hit and miss, with the seminal original being the only one that has really lived up to its reputation. From its loins came a very unexpected spinoff TV series that won numerous awards, and continued the Highlander story in an alternate timeline from that of the first film. The principal star of the show was Duncan MacLeod, played by Adrian Paul.

Throughout the series' six seasons, MacLeod squared off against numerous immortals who were out for his head. Actress Kristanna Loken has established herself as one to call when you need a tough woman who can kick ass, something she established in the 1999 TV series Mortal Kombat: Conquest, followed with playing the T-x in 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. After making a couple movies with the infamous Uwe Boll including Bloodrayne, Loken got the role to play Painkiller Jane in the 2007 Sci-Fi Channel show based on the comics.

While she seemingly hasn’t been as visible in recent years, she can now be seen in the crime-thriller Black Rose, a Russian-American collaborative film that’s finally hitting these shores. It’s directed by, and stars, Russian bodybuilder Alexander Nevsky as a Russian super-cop who is brought to L.A. to help solve the murders of a few Russian women there. He’s partnered with profiler Emily Smith (Loken) as they try to find clues to find the ruthless killer.

From the deadly dreamscapes of Freddy Krueger, to the graveyard where Jason Voorhees was resurrected, to one of the most perilous proms put to celluloid, the special guests for Crypticon Minnesota 2016 come from all avenues of horror genre history, and they will congregate this weekend in the Land of 10,000 Lakes for the 11th annual "Nightmare Before Halloween."

Crypticon Minneapolis may not begin until Friday, but festivities for the event will take place tonight at the Theatres at Mall of America with a special screening of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, featuring star Mark Patton on hand for an audience Q&A.

In case you missed it, the American Horror Story season 6 theme has been revealed, and it is a bloody Roanoke Nightmare indeed. After promoting the new season without releasing a single frame of footage, the ever-cryptic Ryan Murphy has now unveiled his true crime satire-meets-American Gothic to a surprised public, leading many to wonder… what is Roanoke again?

Despite a misconception in some quarters that the name infamously tied to the words “Lost Colony” was made up for the series, and that this fictional ghost story was set in Virginia (Roanoke is in present day North Carolina), Roanoke is indeed a real place, and the ghost stories around it are every bit as strange—if not stranger—than anything American Horror Story has dreamed up.

Teen Wolf takes a page out of the Highlander TV series' book in a time-travelling episode that takes the action to 18th century France...

One of my favourite shows of all time is the TV series Highlander. It takes the Russell Mulcahy original and builds it into something a little less horrifying, a lot less dramatic, and a lot more amusing. Highlander is a show split between two time periods, one the 'modern' 90s and the other some random historical epoch, with Adrian Paul poncing about in ropy costumes while trying not to act like a modern person. After all, he's supposed to be an Immortal with a thousand years of history to inform his decisions. It's far from the best TV ever, but it's a whole lot of fun, and this week's episode of Teen Wolf wouldn't be...

The weather could not have been nicer for Wizard World’s first ever Cleveland comic convention. (I say this, because in Northeast Ohio half a foot of snow is usually the best welcome we can offer to newcomers.) After a good trudge through the slush-covered streets, I managed to step out of the chill air and into the press of con-goers. Despite the icy conditions, Cleveland’s convention center was packed with attendees.

Soon enough, the crowd would be divided, forming lines for booths and celebs (like fellow Kent State alum Dolph Ziggler). As with any Wizard convention, the same complaints come to mind. There were very few comic related guests in attendance. The focus was given mostly to the old standbys from the Wizard group. Jason David Frank, William Shatner, and others were all in attendance. For the week of Thanksgiving, there aren’t a lot of horror and sci-fi titles being released on DVD and Blu-ray, but the ones that are making their home debuts are a fun assortment of cult classics and new indie horror flicks. The Mystery Science Theater gang is getting a brand new Collector’s Edition box set from the good folks over at Shout! Factory, and the original Nazi zombies from Shock Waves are making their high-def debut this week as well.
