Dallas‘ spin-off, Knots Landing, ran for 14 seasons, from 1979 to 1993, and got a two-part sequel movie in 1997. Dynasty’s spin-off, The Colbys, barely squeaked out two years on the air, from 1985 to 1987. Knots Landing may be streaming on Amazon. But The Colbys is perfectly positioned for a weekend binge. The complete run is available on DVD on Amazon. Here’s why it’s worth your while to give it a watch.

Amid the glitz and glam of Hollywood, actors are often seen in a specific light, shaped by their roles and media appearances. And over the years, as the stars’ careers evolve, their way of presenting themselves in the public changes simultaneously. A similar arc was seen in the case of Henry Cavill, who seemed more relaxed and playful during the early 2000s, compared to his current personality.

Henry Cavill’s career in the past few years has had a lot of highs and lows. After being at the top of his professional life, working as both Superman in the DC Universe, and The Witcher for Netflix, he lost it all in a matter of months. Fans were forced to watch as one of the most talented and beloved actors was underappreciated by Hollywood over and over again.

There can be only one. Or, in the case of the "Highlander" franchise, there can be only six movies, three TV shows, and a web series, not to mention nine tie-in novels, two comic book titles, a card game, and a video game for the Atari Jaguar.
The mythology of the "Highlander" movies started pretty simply, spinning centuries-old tales of knight-errantry into a modern fable of magical immortality. Russel Mulcahy's 1986 original laid out the rules clearly: hiding among ordinary humans is a species of magical immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When one Immortal decapitates another, they absorb their victim's life energy, becoming stronger and more exhilarated. The legend goes that when there is only one Immortal remaining on Earth, they will be granted a wish called The Prize. The central Immortal of the series, a 16th century Highlander named Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), wishes more than anything to grow old.

The Highlander reboot script development is "extraordinary" according to Henry Cavill, who will star in the film. Cavill is a big fan of the Highlander franchise, especially the "lore" in the TV series. While very little information has been revealed by way of plot or cast for Highlander, the film will be directed by Chad Stahelski.
Actor Henry Cavill teases details of the upcoming Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski. Highlander was originally a 1986 movie about a Scottish swordsman who must confront immortal enemies. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, the film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Cavill discusses the upcoming Highlander film. The actor comes from a background of being a “Highlander fan” who appreciated both the original film and the TV show with all of the “lore behind it.”

Henry Cavill is about to start intense training for his role in the Highlander reboot and is very excited about it. The reboot will not be a simple remake of the original movie but could incorporate elements from the Highlander TV series. The director's plans to establish an ongoing Highlander franchise suggest that Connor MacLeod's journey to "The Prize" will be longer and more complex than in previous iterations.
Henry Cavill has offered an exciting update concerning his role in the upcoming Highlander reboot. Exclusive: In the world of Highlander reboots, there can still only be one…and it’s a good one at that.
For the first time, Lionsgate will be launching sales at the AFM on their long-gestating fantasy reboot which has Henry Cavill aboard to star as the eponymous Scottish swordsman and John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski set to direct.
We hear this will be a big-budget proposition, north of $100M. Stahelski himself has previously talked about it as akin to John Wick with swords. The team is eyeing a 2024 start.
This will be welcome news for AFM buyers whose pool of pre-sale projects has been diminished by the ongoing strike.
The new movie will be based on the 1986 original, which starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another and collecting more power. The time-jumping film — with its “There can be only one” tagline...

Some Hollywood actors have become genuinely skilled in sword fighting, surpassing the skill level necessary for their roles and using real weapons. Actors like Gwendoline Christie and Kit Harington improved their sword fighting skills while working on "Game of Thrones," becoming practiced veterans. Legends like Basil Rathbone and Errol Flynn were renowned for their sword fighting abilities, with Flynn known for his ability to make fights look real on-screen.
Sword fighting has become something of a common practice in Hollywood ranging from classic swashbuckling pirate movies to epic fantasy television series, however, there are some actors who, over the years, have proved themselves to be genuinely skilled in the art of sword fighting, even when they aren't in front of the camera. These actors were not only trained for their respective projects, but surpassed the skill level necessary. They became better than their stunt doubles, used real weapons rather than props,...

There are quite a few movie franchises that pay no attention to maintaining any coherent or firm continuity. Continuity is an interesting concept in fiction and especially in movies, the basic idea being that one story flows into the next in a streamlined fashion. Modern superhero movies have been particularly fixated on continuity, in order to facilitate crossovers and team-ups similar to those seen in the comics.
That being said, not every movie series is terribly concerned with the continuity established in one film matching up with what is seen in either later sequels or preceding prequels. In fact, some film series are much more casual about their approach to continuity, with others even tying themselves into knots with retcons that continually alter their stories. Here are 10 movie franchises that either pay no attention at all to continuity or which repeatedly rewrite it as they go along.

The first short story in Andrzej Sapkowski's epic saga was simply titled "The Witcher." It was printed in the Polish fantasy and sci-fi magazine Nowa Fantastyka in 1986, as part of a contest. Sapkowski didn't win the top prize then, but readers were attracted to Geralt of Rivia's struggle to free a princess from an unfair curse. That encouraged Sapkowski, and in 1994, "Blood of Elves" became the first full novel about the mutant monster-hunter's trials. Gradually, Geralt's popularity trickled into the worldwide consciousness, helped along by the 2007 video game adaptation by CD Project.
Geralt's (portrayed by Henry Cavill) first adventure is the third episode of Netflix's "The Witcher." Titled "Betrayer Moon," the myth of the striga becomes a showcase for Geralt's gruff brand of empathy. In his world, monsters can't be allowed to roam free, but when he can, he saves them from their fates. The world of "The Witcher" is often cruel,...

When it comes to interesting pieces of pop culture, there's nothing like the "Highlander" franchise. Created by Gregory Widen, this undergraduate assignment turned movie centers around Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), an immortal being destined to duel others like him for sole supremacy. Through countless violent battles, iconic running sequences, and fascinating romantic subplots, audiences watched Connor, along with other notable heroes such as Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul), head-slice their way to the ultimate prize — over and over and over again. Despite its repetitive and campy style, die-hard fans can't get enough of this odd and ever-expanding story. With its iconic soundtrack, equally memorable dialog, and deliciously cheesy elements,...

In this episode of Fantasizing About Fantasy Films, we take a look back at one of the biggest cult classics of the eighties, Russell Mulcahy's Highlander. Although a flop upon its initial release, at least domestically, significant box office receipts in Europe, as well as fantastic home video sales, propelled this to franchise status. However, besides the TV show (starring Adrian Paul), none seem to hold a candle to the original film. It starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod,…...

The Highlander films were largely hit and miss, with the seminal original being the only one that has really lived up to its reputation. From its loins came a very unexpected spinoff TV series that won numerous awards, and continued the Highlander story in an alternate timeline from that of the first film. The principal star of the show was Duncan MacLeod, played by Adrian Paul.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the country’s foremost civil rights organization, extends their deep gratitude to Rosario Dawson for her support and promotion of their Solar Equity Initiative and Go Solar in Your Community pledge.
Dawson – a prolific producer, actress, singer, and political activist for women’s rights and environmental justice, recorded a video to stand in her place at NAACP’s Image Awards on January 15, 2018. An NAACP Image Award winner, Dawson recorded Live from the Art, Culture and Social Action festival, Into Action, where she made the connection between the degradation of the environment and communities and populations who are hit first and worst by the extractive energy economy, namely communities of color and indigenous communities, low-income communities, women, formerly-incarcerated persons, and other groups.
• Studies show that 71% of African Americans live in counties in violation of federal air pollution standards as compared to 56% of the overall population.

Actress Kristanna Loken has established herself as one to call when you need a tough woman who can kick ass, something she established in the 1999 TV series Mortal Kombat: Conquest, followed with playing the T-x in 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. After making a couple movies with the infamous Uwe Boll including Bloodrayne, Loken got the role to play Painkiller Jane in the 2007 Sci-Fi Channel show based on the comics.
While she seemingly hasn’t been as visible in recent years, she can now be seen in the crime-thriller Black Rose, a Russian-American collaborative film that’s finally hitting these shores. It’s directed by, and stars, Russian bodybuilder Alexander Nevsky as a Russian super-cop who is brought to L.A. to help solve the murders of a few Russian women there. He’s partnered with profiler Emily Smith (Loken) as they try to find clues to find the ruthless killer.

John Wick’s Chad Stahelski will team with Colony's Ryan Condal for the Highlander reboot.
In an entertainment industry age in which the 1980s are habitually mined for reboot fodder, one of that prolific decade’s most expansive multimedia properties, Highlander, has somehow remained untapped for the better part of two decades. That, however, is about to change.
The centuries-spanning intrigue of battling immortals whose tagline famously states, “There can be only one” will soon manifest as a new big-screen effort. Chad Stahelski will direct Lionsgate’s reboot of Highlander. After a decades-long resume in the arena of stunts and second unit stewarding, Stahelski received his first credit as a director alongside David Leitch for the 2014 Keanu Reeves-starring action sleeper hit John Wick, subsequently solo-directing its sequels, the latest of which, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, hits this weekend.

The backdrop to American Horror Story season 6, our Us chums look at the lost colony of Roanoke, its myths and pop culture appearances...
In case you missed it, the American Horror Story season 6 theme has been revealed, and it is a bloody Roanoke Nightmare indeed. After promoting the new season without releasing a single frame of footage, the ever-cryptic Ryan Murphy has now unveiled his true crime satire-meets-American Gothic to a surprised public, leading many to wonder… what is Roanoke again?
Despite a misconception in some quarters that the name infamously tied to the words “Lost Colony” was made up for the series, and that this fictional ghost story was set in Virginia (Roanoke is in present day North Carolina), Roanoke is indeed a real place, and the ghost stories around it are every bit as strange—if not stranger—than anything American Horror Story has dreamed up.

Teen Wolf takes a page out of the Highlander TV series' book in a time-travelling episode that takes the action to 18th century France...

5.18 The Maid Of Gevaudan
One of my favourite shows of all time is the TV series Highlander. It takes the Russell Mulcahy original and builds it into something a little less horrifying, a lot less dramatic, and a lot more amusing. Highlander is a show split between two time periods, one the 'modern' 90s and the other some random historical epoch, with Adrian Paul poncing about in ropy costumes while trying not to act like a modern person. After all, he's supposed to be an Immortal with a thousand years of history to inform his decisions. It's far from the best TV ever, but it's a whole lot of fun, and this week's episode of Teen Wolf wouldn't be...

Tomorrow night at 10, Cinemax premieres the final season of "Strike Back," the rip-roaring buddy action drama about a pair of soldiers working for an elite British special forces unit. In the four seasons of its Cinemax incarnation (one season aired first in England, with an entirely different cast led by Richard Armitage), it's been a pleasure to watch: always smarter, more technically proficient, and just plain better than it ever needed to be. Now it's coming to an end, with a new season that kicks off in Thailand and features guest stars like Michelle Yeoh Dustin Clare, Adrian Paul and Will Yun Lee running into our returning heroes, straight-laced English soldier Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) and his carousing American partner Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton). I've seen the first four episodes, and while there are a few narrative hiccups — some of them caused because production was disrupted and delayed by a...

The weather could not have been nicer for Wizard World’s first ever Cleveland comic convention. (I say this, because in Northeast Ohio half a foot of snow is usually the best welcome we can offer to newcomers.) After a good trudge through the slush-covered streets, I managed to step out of the chill air and into the press of con-goers. Despite the icy conditions, Cleveland’s convention center was packed with attendees.
Soon enough, the crowd would be divided, forming lines for booths and celebs (like fellow Kent State alum Dolph Ziggler). As with any Wizard convention, the same complaints come to mind. There were very few comic related guests in attendance. The focus was given mostly to the old standbys from the Wizard group. Jason David Frank, William Shatner, and others were all in attendance. There were a few booths set up for independent comic companies, like Action Lab,...

For the week of Thanksgiving, there aren’t a lot of horror and sci-fi titles being released on DVD and Blu-ray, but the ones that are making their home debuts are a fun assortment of cult classics and new indie horror flicks. The Mystery Science Theater gang is getting a brand new Collector’s Edition box set from the good folks over at Shout! Factory, and the original Nazi zombies from Shock Waves are making their high-def debut this week as well. We’ve also got a handful of Blumhouse/Universal titles coming our way- Mercy, Mockingbird and Stretch- and Scorpion Releasing is giving fans a chance to own the Roger Corman produced remake of The Masque of the Red Death too.
Spotlight Titles:
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Turkey Day Collection Limited Edition (Shout! Factory, DVD)
