My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. So, if you love the heart, optimism, great story, and fantastic animation...

Mary Tyler Moore once called herself the only one of Elvis Presley’s leading ladies who didn’t sleep with him, but the singer reportedly struck out with more than one co-star. Elvis worked with actor Shelley Fabares on three films and reportedly pursued her across all of them. His bodyguards said it came as a major blow to Elvis’ ego when Fabares continually rejected him.
Elvis pursued a co-star who turned him down
After Elvis left the army in 1960, he began making movies at a relentless pace. While he was in a relationship with Priscilla Presley during this period, he still pursued many of his co-stars.
“It pretty much followed the same pattern,” bodyguard Red West said in the book Elvis: What Happened? by Steve Dunleavy. “Priscilla was in Memphis, Elvis dated his leading lady and I, as usual, ended up in the movie getting knocked on my a...

After Lucille Ball's spunky housewife Lucy signed off on the last episode of "I Love Lucy" but before Mary Tyler Moore did away with the nuclear family sitcom model with her own self-titled show, another actress was one of the faces of womanhood in comedy. Oscar-winning actress Donna Reed headlined "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966, playing middle-class mother and housewife Donna Stone in the popular black-and-white series. Reed starred opposite Carl Betz, who played Donna's husband, pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone. In season 5, family friends Midge and Dave joined the fun, but for the most part, the show was all about the lighthearted hijinks of the Stone family.
Though "The Donna Reed Show" was popular upon release, it's now perhaps most often referenced as a pop cultural window into a time before second-wave feminism, when women were expected to spend their time cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing while men went to work.

From the start of Priscilla Presley’s relationship with Elvis Presley, she worried that he was cheating on her. He had been in a relationship with another woman when he met Priscilla, and she consistently saw rumors about his flings with co-stars. These rumors persisted throughout their relationship. Though Priscilla would confront him about it, she explained that she always ended up apologizing for it.
Priscilla Presley apologized to Elvis after questioning him about cheating
While visiting the Palm Springs home she shared with Elvis, Priscilla discovered letters from a number of women who had “obviously been to the house.” Outraged, Priscilla called Elvis’ road manager, Joe Esposito, and demanded that he put Elvis on the phone.
“When Joe said Elvis was sleeping, I told him about the letters and insisted I speak to Elvis,” Priscilla wrote in her book Elvis and Me. “Joe promised that he would have Elvis...

Even before Priscilla and Elvis Presley were married, she questioned his loyalty to her. Every time he left to film a movie, she felt both jealous and concerned. Though Elvis insisted he wasn’t having flings with his co-stars, she consistently saw evidence to the contrary. When she questioned him about this, his reaction was a cruel method of keeping her quiet.
Priscilla Presley said Elvis was cruel to her when she questioned his fidelity
When Elvis filmed movies, he left Priscilla at Graceland, where she fretted over his possible infidelity. He’d more or less admitted to having an affair with his Viva Las Vegas co-star Ann-Margret Olsson, and Priscilla became convinced that this wasn’t his only indiscretion. She found cards from other women tucked into his things and saw newspaper articles reporting on his on-set romances.
When Priscilla confronted him about it, though, Elvis irritably told her she was “imagining things.

As the old saying goes, "It's a small world after all." You can travel halfway across the country and still find a former neighbor or someone that attended the same classes as you in college. You might even end up on the other side of the globe one day and run into an old friend that you haven't thought of in years.
Applying this saying to the entertainment industry, there are hundreds, if not thousands of productions going on at one time. Performers will audition for countless jobs, so the people in the waiting rooms start to look familiar after a while. But how often does it happen where you actually end up working with those you really know and are close with, without one party at least putting a good word in for the other?
One instance where this happened was during the casting of "Superman: The Animated Series.

Diane McBain, whose career playing spoiled rich girls included turns as the yacht owner Daphne Dutton on the ABC crime show Surfside 6 and an author stalking Elvis Presley in Spinout, has died. She was 81.
McBain died Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills after a battle with liver cancer, her friend and writing partner, Michael Gregg Michaud, told The Hollywood Reporter.
McBain also guest-starred on four episodes of ABC’s Batman, first as a hat shop assistant who’s in cahoots with David Wayne’s Mad Hatter in 1966 and then as stamp company proprietor Pinky Pinkston — she wore only pink and had a pink dog — on the memorable 1967 installment that featured The Green Hornet (Van Williams) and Kato (Bruce Lee).

On the day a U.S. appeals court lifted an injunction that blocked a Mississippi “religious freedom” law – i.e., giving Christian extremists the right to discriminate against gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, etc. – not to mention the publication of a Republican-backed health care bill targeting the poor, the sick, the elderly, and those with “pre-existing conditions” – which would include HIV-infected people, a large chunk of whom are gay and bisexual men, so the wealthy in the U.S. can get a massive tax cut, Turner Classic Movies' 2017 Gay Pride or Lgbt Month celebration continues (into tomorrow morning, Thursday & Friday, June 22–23) with the presentation of movies by or featuring an eclectic – though seemingly all male – group: Montgomery Clift, Anthony Perkins, Tab Hunter, Dirk Bogarde, John Schlesinger, Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal, Arthur Laurents, and Jerome Robbins. The most-read book since Gone with the Wind looked at the coming of age struggle of an ambitious, upwardly mobile Jewish girl in the 1930s. This glossy film version gives Natalie Wood an ‘adult’ role and provides Gene Kelly with the seemingly optimal character of a troubled theatrical artiste. Good intentions aside, the show lacks guidance — and may have harmed Kelly’s acting career.

Donna Douglas, the actress most known for playing the giddy, goofy Elly May Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies," has died at age 81 according to several reports. It cannot be overstated what a phenomenon "The Beverly Hillbillies" was. Not only was the comedy the #1 series in America for its first two seasons, but the episode "The Giant Jackrabbit" remains one of the single most watched half-hours in sitcom history. Douglas was essential to the show's rollicking mix, and she remained friends with "Hillbillies" star Buddy Ebsen until his death. Let's take a look back at some of Douglas' finer contributions to popular culture. First of all: Let us enjoy Elly May's bathing suit issues. They are comical and cute. In this veeeery short clip, you get Elly May's full awesomeness in just a single quip. Never forget that Douglas released a couple of singles during her heyday. Here's the tuneful, catchy "He's So Near.

I love finding new things.
Writers I never heard of, music I’m not familiar with, a movie recommended by a friend I trust. Even better than finding something new is discovering that the material in question is a lot better than expected. I like to be surprised, I enjoy the professional output of talented people, writers, film makers, musicians, artists in general.
But nothing, and I mean nothing, could have prepared me for the atom bomb blast the Collins Kids have put on me.
A little back ground first. I recently went on vacation and drove to Missouri from my home in St. Petersburg, Florida to visit my family at our reunion over Labor Day weekend. I drove there through Mississippi and took my time, visited places that interested me. Stopped in Indianola, Ms and visited the B.B. King Museum (I highly recommend it by...

Today we say goodbye to Bonnie Franklin, the Tony-nominated star of Applause who went on to thrill us for nine years as divorced mother Ann Romano on the kickass series One Day at a Time. Franklin died at 69 of pancreatic cancer.
To this day, the Romanos must be the most gorgeous family ever to live in Indianapolis, but they wouldn't know it because they were too busy suffering at the hands of Schneider and his innuendos about Ms. Romano's radiator. You know a show is great when you can't decide whether its greatest featured actor is Shelley Fabares or Nanette Fabray.
In honor of Ms. Franklin's amazing sitcom (produced by Norman Lear), I ask you: What's Franklin's greatest One Day at a Time episode?
I actually Love Bonnie's last episode on the series, but I'm taking us back to her most quintessential type of moment: telling Julie (Mackenzie Phillips) and...

I was thinking about The Carrie Diaries, and a bizarre truth hit me: It's a great idea for a show! Though Sex and the City ran six seasons, inspecting Carrie Bradshaw's teenage history through whatever overly glamorized or cutesy lens is intriguing. All these years after the HBO hit left the air, Carrie is a beloved and somehow relevant protagonist that everyone has an opinion about. I salute The Carrie Diaries for exploring her deep past. Moreover, I hope it inspires TV networks to mine the potentially fertile backstories of these five other classic TV shows, which range from the broadly comic to the grimly serious.

I did my homework on Memorial Day: I thought of real veterans for awhile, let my mind wander over to hot movie veterans, and then ranked the 10 hottest of those for your viewing pleasure. I might be the best American I know. Insert your hilarious "You're a Grand Ole Flag" puns here.
Without further ado, here are my picks for the 10 hottest military gents of cinema. I sort of apologize that the list skews to newer films, but I swear I've selected some (literally) golden oldies too.
10. Josh Hartnett in Black Hawk Down
The doe-eyed hunk prince of 1998-2002 capped off his reign with his most critically acclaimed film, one where he got to fill out fatigues and show us how damn manly he could look.
9. Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Stop Loss
Jgl pulls off the shaved head look like no thespian since the man who ranks at #2 on our list.

If you didn't celebrate Stand By Me's 25th anniversary last year like any proud, nostalgic, train-dodging American, I don't think we should meet. It's the definitive Stephen King adaptation, the definitive River Phoenix movie (Take that, Running on Empty!), and the only movie I can think of that is both exceedingly believable and exceedingly sappy. More important, it fulfills my checklist of qualifications for our new feature Best Movie Ever: I can watch it again and again, it's unpretentious, it's funny when it wants to be, and it's real. Ben E. King, your legacy goes on untarnished.
Stand By Me tells the story of four 12-year-old boys in the early '60s who hike for miles along railroad tracks for a chance to glimpse the dead body of one of their classmates, a missing kid who might've been hit by a train. The kids consider it an adventure -- which it is,...

We're just barreling through 2012 here, aren't we? It scares me. You understand that next year is 2013, right? What kind of freaky Kubrickian year is that? Whatever. Let's live in the now and deny that we're heading into a staggering vortex that will kill us all.
1770: The Boston Massacre claims the lives of five Americans, including Crispus Attucks, and it serves as a catalyst for the outbreak of the American Revolution. Just five lives? Five lives are lost during most Craigslist transactions. Hope those Dale Earnhardt hubcaps were worth it, Crispus.
1956: Teena Marie, the late "Ivory Queen of Soul," is born. Immortal Jive Goddess Of Caucasia. Here are my three favorite Teena songs: 3) "Lovergirl," 2) "Square Biz," and 1) "Behind the Groove." Ohhhhh, yes. Never forget Lady T!

Judy Garland sings a song about a trolley in Meet Me in St. Louis.
The 1944 Technicolor Hollywood musical classic Meet Me in St. Louis, starring Judy Garland (A Star is Born), will surely shimmer in its Blu-ray debut.
The fan-favorite film, which was nominated for four Oscars, was directed by Vincente Minnelli (An American in Paris) and co-stars Margaret O’Brien (1943′s Jane Eyre) and Mary Astor (The Maltese Falcon).
The movie offers a slice of Americana as it deals with the lives and loves of the irrepressible Smith family during the year of the St. Louis World’s Fair.
“The Boy Next Door,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Trolley Song” are a handful of the standards from the film, which was one of the two highest-grossing MGM theatrical releases of its time.

Tab Hunter turns 80 today. In his honor, Turner Classic Movies is showing five of his films. The first of the batch, Phil Karlson's Western Gunman's Walk, is on right now. Hunter and The Time Tunnel's James Darren play rancher Van Heflin's sons. Next is Ride the Wild Surf, starring Hunter and teen idol Fabian as a couple of dudes riding waves in Hawaii. Featuring some cool surfing footage and tons of corny dialogue, Ride the Wild Surf is a guilty pleasure. In his highly readable autobiography, Tab Hunter: Confidential, Hunter says his brother Walt — a former surfer — was his inspiration for the role. (Not that Hunter actually had to do any surfing.) He adds that director Don Taylor (Elizabeth Taylor's husband-to-be in Father of the Bride) had to step away for a week due to a death in the family, so Phil Karlson was brought in as a temporary replacement.

While names like The Beatles and The Monkees may rule the historic roost when it comes to mop-topped pop icons, a little known group is looking to return to the public’s mind thanks to The Warner Archive.

Starring the chart-topping pop troupe Herman’s Hermits (known for tracks like “A Must To Avoid” and the title track, “Hold On”), Hold On follows the five-some as they go on their Us tour, and must avoid the hordes of screaming women and the occasional star hunter as they wait to find out if a Nasa rocket will have their name adorned on the side of it. When Edgar Bronfman Jr gained ownership of Universal Studios he got into some odd marketing campaign practices. One of which is this rare, employee orientation video, that enlightened people about how things were going to change under new management.
Created in 1995 by Matt Stone and Trey Parker and commissioned by comedic filmmaker David Zucker, Your Studio and You was to be played at a party Seagram threw for its employees acquired as a result of its Universal Studios take-over. It parodies the style of 1950s educational films such as Duck and Cover, while poking fun at Universal and its talent. Edgar Bronfman Jr didn’t like it, so they scrapped it but the film is notable in that it was Stone and Parker’s first Hollywood gig. Mixing Comedy & Soap: A History of the Serialized Situation Comedy
By Doug Prinzivalli
As one of the producers of the hit web series Pretty - a parody hybrid of reality TV and soaps - I thought it would be a fun idea to take a brief look at the long history of the serialized situation comedy. The idea of mixing comedy with soap elements is not a new one - in fact it started over 60 years ago.
The First Hundred Years (CBS 1950-52) was a mildly humorous daily soap about newlyweds who are gifted with a bat-infested Victorian mansion. Sounds pretty wacky to me. After less than two years, it was replaced by something called The Guiding Light.
The Egg & I (CBS 1951-52) Based on a book by Betty MacDonald and the 1947 film (starring Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray) that followed, this show followed the misadventures of city folk...
