Oscar-winning actress Donna Reed headlined "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966, playing middle-class mother and housewife Donna Stone in the popular black-and-white series. Reed starred opposite Carl Betz, who played Donna's husband, pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone. In season 5, family friends Midge and Dave joined the fun, but for the most part, the show was all about the lighthearted hijinks of the Stone family.

Though "The Donna Reed Show" was popular upon release, it's now perhaps most often referenced as a pop cultural window into a time before second-wave feminism, when women were expected to spend their time cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing while men went to work.

Judy Farrell, who portrayed Nurse Able on M*A*S*H opposite her then-husband Mike Farrell and later served as a writer on the ABC soap opera Port Charles, has died. She was 84.

Farrell died Sunday at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center of complications from a recent stroke, her son, Michael, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Farrell also appeared on such other shows as Judd for the Defense, Get Smart, Medical Center, Quincy M.E., Emergency!, Room 222, The Partridge Family, Benson and Fame, for which she also wrote an episode.

From 1976-83, the Oklahoma native showed up on eight installments of M*A*S*H. Her first one was 1976’s “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” where Hawkeye (Alan Alda) attempts to fix a gas stove in the nurses’ tent and it blows up, rendering him temporarily blind.

As the old saying goes, "It's a small world after all." You can travel halfway across the country and still find a former neighbor or someone that attended the same classes as you in college. You might even end up on the other side of the globe one day and run into an old friend that you haven't thought of in years.

Applying this saying to the entertainment industry, there are hundreds, if not thousands of productions going on at one time. Performers will audition for countless jobs, so the people in the waiting rooms start to look familiar after a while. But how often does it happen where you actually end up working with those you really know and are close with, without one party at least putting a good word in for the other?

One instance where this happened was during the casting of "Superman: The Animated Series.

Diane McBain, whose career playing spoiled rich girls included turns as the yacht owner Daphne Dutton on the ABC crime show Surfside 6 and an author stalking Elvis Presley in Spinout, has died. She was 81.

McBain died Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills after a battle with liver cancer, her friend and writing partner, Michael Gregg Michaud, told The Hollywood Reporter.

McBain also guest-starred on four episodes of ABC’s Batman, first as a hat shop assistant who’s in cahoots with David Wayne’s Mad Hatter in 1966 and then as stamp company proprietor Pinky Pinkston — she wore only pink and had a pink dog — on the memorable 1967 installment that featured The Green Hornet (Van Williams) and Kato (Bruce Lee).

Nanette Fabray, the effervescent comedienne who won three Emmy Awards for playing opposite Sid Caesar on Caesar's Hour, only to leave the classic NBC sketch series because of a misunderstanding, has died. She was 97.

Fabray, who later portrayed the mother of Bonnie Franklin's character on the CBS sitcom One Day at a Time, died Thursday at her home in Palos Verdes, California, her son, Jamie MacDougall, told The New York Times.

Hollywood is obsessed with reboots as of late, and NBC is gearing up to give the beloved 1990s sitcom “Coach” a whole new run.

According to the network, Craig T. Nelson, the original Coach Hayden Fox, has signed on to reprise his role as well as serve as executive producer alongside creator Barry Kemp.

NBC hasn’t announced a premiere date just yet, and there’s no word on whether other series regulars like Bill Fagerbakke, Shelley Fabares or Clare Carey are on board. Stay linked to the GossipCenter for further details!

In a completely unprecedented move, NBC has announced that they have given a straight-to-series order for a multi-camera comedy revival of the ABC 1990s sitcom "Coach".

Thirteen episodes have been ordered for the show which is Not a reboot. Rather this is a follow-up, ala "Girl Meets World," and will be set in the present day. Original star Craig T. Nelson will reprise the role of football coach Hayden Fox which he played on the original sitcom of the same name from 1989 to 1997.

EW has posted a synopsis for the new version which reads as follows: "Coach Hayden Fox, in the present day, has retired from coaching. He is called back to become assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy league school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team."

Even better than finding something new is discovering that the material in question is a lot better than expected. I like to be surprised, I enjoy the professional output of talented people, writers, film makers, musicians, artists in general.

Today we say goodbye to Bonnie Franklin, the Tony-nominated star of Applause who went on to thrill us for nine years as divorced mother Ann Romano on the kickass series One Day at a Time. Franklin died at 69 of pancreatic cancer.

To this day, the Romanos must be the most gorgeous family ever to live in Indianapolis, but they wouldn't know it because they were too busy suffering at the hands of Schneider and his innuendos about Ms. Romano's radiator. If you didn't celebrate Stand By Me's 25th anniversary last year like any proud, nostalgic, train-dodging American, I don't think we should meet. It's the definitive Stephen King adaptation, the definitive River Phoenix movie (Take that, Running on Empty!), and the only movie I can think of that is both exceedingly believable and exceedingly sappy. More important, it fulfills my checklist of qualifications for our new feature Best Movie Ever: I can watch it again and again, it's unpretentious, it's funny when it wants to be, and it's real. The 1944 Technicolor Hollywood musical classic Meet Me in St. Louis, starring Judy Garland (A Star is Born), will surely shimmer in its Blu-ray debut.

The fan-favorite film, which was nominated for four Oscars, was directed by Vincente Minnelli (An American in Paris) and co-stars Margaret O’Brien (1943′s Jane Eyre) and Mary Astor (The Maltese Falcon).

The movie offers a slice of Americana as it deals with the lives and loves of the irrepressible Smith family during the year of the St. Louis World’s Fair.

“The Boy Next Door,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Trolley Song” are a handful of the standards from the film, which was one of the two highest-grossing MGM theatrical releases of its time.

Los Angeles (September 8, 2011) – Renowned actress, producer and humanitarian Mary Tyler Moore will receive Screen Actors Guild (SAG)’s most prestigious accolade - the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. Moore created a new paradigm for female leads in television, won top honors for her courageous performances in film, television and on stage, produced some of the most lauded television programs of all time, and for thirty years, has served as a tireless advocate giving hope to all those afflicted with Type 1 diabetes.

Moore will be presented the Award, given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®, which premieres live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at 8 p.

Tab Hunter turns 80 today. In his honor, Turner Classic Movies is showing five of his films. The first of the batch, Phil Karlson's Western Gunman's Walk, is on right now. Hunter and The Time Tunnel's James Darren play rancher Van Heflin's sons. Next is Ride the Wild Surf, starring Hunter and teen idol Fabian as a couple of dudes riding waves in Hawaii. Featuring some cool surfing footage and tons of corny dialogue, Ride the Wild Surf is a guilty pleasure. In his highly readable autobiography, Tab Hunter: Confidential, Hunter says his brother Walt — a former surfer — was his inspiration for the role. (Not that Hunter actually had to do any surfing.) He adds that director Don Taylor (Elizabeth Taylor's husband-to-be in Father of the Bride) had to step away for a week due to a death in the family, so Phil Karlson was brought in as a temporary replacement.

As one of the producers of the hit web series Pretty - a parody hybrid of reality TV and soaps - I thought it would be a fun idea to take a brief look at the long history of the serialized situation comedy. The idea of mixing comedy with soap elements is not a new one - in fact it started over 60 years ago.

The First Hundred Years (CBS 1950-52) was a mildly humorous daily soap about newlyweds who are gifted with a bat-infested Victorian mansion. Sounds pretty wacky to me. After less than two years, it was replaced by something called The Guiding Light.
