The classic sitcom, Whos the Boss?, ran from 1984-1992, and there had been talks about reviving the show on Amazon Freevee. One of its stars, Judith Light, who played advertising executive Angela Bower in all 196 episodes of the series, told Variety shed be delighted if the series moved forward with another streamer or network.

I would be delighted, Light said. But in terms of where I am and the workload that I have right now, I dont know what my availability would be. When I started my career, I said Id never do a soap opera and Id never do a sitcom. Well, I did both those things. Then I said I would never marry an actor. And I did just that. So, I learned to never say never.

Although plans for a Who's the Boss reboot were recently scrapped, Judith Light would still be open to revisiting the popular 1980s sitcom. However, there is one small catch.

Light would only consider reprising her role as Angela Bower after the show is well into development. So when MovieWeb, asked her about signing up for the reboot, the actor offered a matter-of-fact response. "You know what? I don't know how to answer that question, because I don't know where they are in their own journey and their process of putting it together, so when it's further along, then we could talk about it again," she explained. "But I certainly loved my time, and I love my Tony Danza," she added.

The Who’s the Boss? sequel series is not moving forward at Amazon Freevee. The streaming service announced it was developing the series in June 2022, but not much has been heard about the project since then.

The original Who’s the Boss? sitcom aired on ABC for eight seasons and stars Tony Danza, Judith Light, Alyssa Milano, Danny Pintauro, and Katherine Helmond. The story revolves around a former Major League Baseball athlete and single father, Tony (Danza), who wants to get his young daughter Samantha (Milano) out of the hectic world of New York. He takes a job as a live-in housekeeper to an single ad executive, Angela (Light), and her young son, Jonathan (Pintauro). As Alyssa Milano came of age on Who’s the Boss?, her breakout role turned out to be a case of art imitating life.

Marking the ABC sitcom’s 40th anniversary, the former child star recently recalled how her preteen character Samantha Micelli was largely inspired by her own childhood, including when she “started developing breasts.”

“A lot of Sam was based on who I was as a kid, which was someone who loved sports, a tomboy, someone who loved her family, tough, scrappy, and everything that kind of went on in my adolescence,” she explained to People.

“Like, I remember when I started developing breasts, I walked in the next week and there was a script called ‘Sam’s First Bra,'” added Milano. “So it was like, everything that happened in my life, they wrote it in the show.”

Back in 2022, we got word that Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi and frequent collaborator Jemaine Clement were in the process of developing a reimagining of Terry Gilliam's '80s sci-fi classic Time Bandits for Apple TV+ with Friends alum Lisa Kudrow set to star.

Now, we finally have a first look at the series thanks to EW's summer TV preview.

Kudrow will lead a cast that also includes Kal-El Tuck (Unseeing Evil), Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up), Tadhg Murphy (Conversations With Friends), Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (You Don’t Know Me), Rune Temte (Eddie the Eagle), Kiera Thompson (Martyrs Lane) and Rachel House (Heartbreak High).

Though specific plot details are still under wraps, the series is described as "a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd."

Apple TV+ has set the premiere date for its new comedy-adventure series Time Bandits, an adaptation of the 1981 film of the same name. Headlined by Friends star Lisa Kudrow, the series is described as an ‘unpredictable journey through time and space’ that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

The show follows an 11-year-old history geek, Kevin, who tags along with a group of thieves on a mission to save his parents and the world. Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi are the creators behind the series.

As any critic will tell you, when you’re watching a comedy with an audience, it doesn’t matter how bad the movie is — even the jokes that are making you groan are going to provoke laughter. (That’s why comedies are always screened with a crowd; the studios want the audience giggles to rub off on you.) But at the Venice Film Festival, when I saw “The Palace,” Roman Polanski’s garish debacle of an ensemble comedy, I was sitting in the Sala Darsena, which seats 1400 (and was full), and on the rare occasion when a line in the movie got laughs, it was literally coming from about six people. An actor, producer, writer and activist, Milano has not only had a successful, enduring onscreen career, with credits ranging from ’90s touchstones Melrose Place and Charmed to Netflix’s 2018 series Insatiable, but also, almost from the start, she has used her fame and public persona to amplify her voice in support of causes she cares about.

Sunday marked the five-year anniversary of Milano’s 2017 tweet, in which, in response to newly reported sexual assault allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein, she wrote:

After almost two years of developmental uncertainty, a sequel of the beloved sitcom that ran for eight seasons on ABC from 1984 to 1992 will air on Amazon Freevee, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano will reprise their roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli, with retired Tony and single mother Samantha living in the same home from the original series. The follow-up to the hit ABC ’80s sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” starring Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano is now in development at Amazon Freevee, reps for the streaming service confirmed to TheWrap on Tuesday.

The sequel, which catches up with characters Tony and Samantha Micelli 30 years later, was first announced by both actors in 2020.

Normal Lear will executive producer with “Once Day at Time” co-producers Mike Royce and Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz, with Royce set to write. Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series, is the studio. Dan Farah of Farah Films, who pitched the sequel to Sony with Danza and Milano attached, will also executive produce.

A sequel to the 1980s sitcom Who’s the Boss is headed to Amazon’s Freevee streaming service.

The new take will focus on Milano’s Samantha Micelli, a single mother who lives in the same house where she grew up on the original series. Her retired dad, Tony (Danza), lives with her. Gregory Sierra, who was a key part of two major 1970s sitcoms as Julio Fuentes on Sanford and Son and Sgt. Miguel “Chano” Amenguale on Barney Miller, has died. He was 83.

Sierra died Jan. 4 in Laguna Woods, California, from cancer, according to a family spokesman. His death just became public today.

Born in New York’s Spanish Harlem, Sierra worked with the National Shakespeare Company and in the New York Shakespeare Festival. He also appeared in off-Broadway plays and was a standby on Broadway for The Ninety Day Mistress in 1967.

Moving to Los Angeles, Sierra had guest appearances on such shows as It Takes a Thief, Medical Center, The High Chaparral, Mod Squad, The Flying Nun and Kung Fu.

In films he was also a supporting actor in Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Getting Straight (1970), Papillon (1973), The Towering Inferno (1974) and the Orson Welles project The Other Side of the Wind.

Rhonda Fleming died last Wednesday in Santa Monica, California. The 97-year-old actress, who had left a successful 15-year career as a leading lady in studio films 60 years ago, was correctly noted in her obituaries as “the Queen of Technicolor” because of her flaming red hair, as well as her significant presence as a film noir actress, particularly in Jacques Tourneur’s masterpiece “Out of the Past” (1947).

Her films included a number of now-acclaimed auteurist titles like Budd Boetticher’s “The Killer Is Loose,” Allan Dwan’s “Slightly Scarlet” and “Tennessee’s Partner,” and Fritz Lang’s “While the City Sleeps,” to go along with more mainstream titles like “The Spiral Staircase” and “The Gunfight at O.K. Corral.”

Unlike actresses like Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Tippi Hedren, and others who made multiple films with Alfred Hitchcock, Fleming is less identified with the master. But he provided her with her breakout role in 1945’s “Spellbound.

Who's the Boss? is making a comeback.

Deadline reports that a new series would bring back Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano.

It is said to pick up 30 years after the original series concluded, with Milano's Samantha grown up and a single mother, living in the same house as first series.

The new take “will explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020.”

Original stars Judith Light (Angela) and Danny Pintauro (Jonathan) are not currently attached, but they are “supportive of the new series.”

Producers are trying to find a way to work those former cast members into the new take.

Katherine Helmond, who co-starred as Angela’s sassy mother Mona, passed away last year.

Milano took to Twitter to confirm the news.

When it came to deciding whether or not to resurrect Who’s the Boss, timing was apparently everything.

Shortly after news broke Tuesday that Sony Pictures Television is developing a revival of the ’80s sitcom, with Alyssa Milano and TV dad Tony Danza attached to star, an “excited” Milano confirmed the news on social media, before explaining, “We feel the time is right to tell the story of where these amazing characters are today. Can’t wait to share their stories with you.”

That eternal TV question may finally get answered: A revival of Who’s the Boss? is in development, with original stars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano returning to reprise their roles, our sister site Deadline reports.

The sequel series, which will be shopped to networks and streaming services by producers Sony Pictures Television, will take place 30 years later, with Milano’s Samantha now grown up and a single mother, living in the same house as the original series. Exclusive: One of the most beloved television comedies is making a comeback. A Who’s the Boss? sequel is in development at Sony Pictures Television.

Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano are on board to reprise their iconic roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli, a father/daughter relationship that families around the world grew up with over the course of 196 episodes on ABC from 1984-92.

The show averaged more than 33 million live viewers per episode during its eight-season run on ABC and went on to be a big hit in U.S. and international syndication. Who’s the Boss? was progressive in its depiction of a modern family in the ’80s with a reversal of gender roles and stereotypes. The show was nominated for 10 Emmys and five Golden Globes.

The new show will take place 30 years after the events of the original series, centered around former Major League Baseball player/retired housekeeper...

Jen and Judy have one more thing between them, but this one is no secret at all. “Dead to Me” stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini both scored Best Comedy Actress Emmy nominations Tuesday, joining a short list of co-stars to be nominated in the same year.

The two are just the seventh pair to be shortlisted together (for a total of 13 sets of nominations) since 1966, when the Emmys established the category as we know it. The most recent duo was “Grace and Frankie’s” Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in 2017. The only other instance this century occurred in 2005 when “Desperate Housewives” bagged three spots for Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman. The trio broke through 16 years after another trio — “The Golden Girls'” Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Betty White — notched the last of their four straight nominations together in 1989.

“Black Mirror’s” Emmy journey this season has had more twists than a “Black Mirror” episode. After getting permission to stay in the Best TV Movie category, despite its submission “Smithereens” being five minutes short of the new 75-minute requirement, the show was shunted to drama last week. That means instead of the limited/TV movie acting races, “Black Mirror’s” Season 5 stars can now choose to enter in drama lead, supporting or guest. And if any of them or Netflix are torn, take it from us: Go guest.

Current Emmy rules stipulate that performers who appear in less than 50 percent of a show’s season are eligible to compete in guest, but are not required to, so they can pick whatever category they want. But to put it bluntly, guest is arguably where all “Black Mirror” actors belong. The show is an anthology series with a different cast every episode.

Last year, Christina Applegate earned a surprise Best Comedy Actress Emmy nomination for her then-new show “Dead to Me,” while her leading lady co-star Linda Cardellini was left out in a cold. But the pair may have double to celebrate this year as Cardellini has just entered the top six in sixth place in our odds, setting the stage for them to be just the 13th pair of co-stars to be nominated in the category and just the third in 31 years.

Since the Emmys established genre-specific categories in 1966, these are the only times co-stars have been nominated for Best Comedy Actress in the same year:

Actress Honor Blackman has passed away. She was 94 years old. Blackman is arguably best-known for portraying Bond girl Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, along with the judo chopping Cathy Gale on TV's The Avengers. She passed away peacefully on April 5th at her home in Lewes, Sussex, of natural causes, according to her family. Blackman's family released a statement, which you can read below.

"She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her two children Barnaby and Lottie, and grandchildren Daisy, Oscar, Olive, and Toby. As well as being a much-adored mother and grandmother. Honor was an actor of hugely prolific creative talent. With an extraordinary combination of beauty, brains and physical prowess, along with her unique voice and a dedicated work ethic, she achieved an unparalleled iconic status in the world of film and entertainment and with absolute commitment to her craft and total professionalism in all her...

Several notable directors died in 2019, including pioneering French New Wave director Agnes Varda, who died March 29 at 90. “Singin’ in the Rain” director Stanley Donen died Feb. 21 at 94, while cult movie director Larry Cohen, who helmed “It’s Alive,” died March 23 at 77. “Boyz N the Hood” director John Singleton suffered a stroke and died April 29 at 51, and renowned documentarian D.A. Pennebaker, who made “Don’t Look Back,” died Aug. 1 at 94. “Romeo and Juliet” director Franco Zeffirelli died June 15 at 96. The colorful studio executive and producer of “Chinatown” and many other films, Robert Evans, died Oct. 26 at 89.

Amid the chaos that was 2019, the show business industry lost some major players. There were icons of the big screen and TV, along with such legends as Broadway director Harold Prince and actress Carol Channing; singers Eddie Money, Ric Ocasek and José José; musicians Peter Tork, Ginger Baker and Dr. John; and composers Michel Legrand, André Previn and Jerry Herman, to name just a few of the year’s high-profile passings.

Hollywood also lost groundbreaking directors, unforgettable writers, and executives.

The Fox broadcast of the Primetime Emmys on Sunday featured the usual In Memoriam segment, this year highlighted by Halsey’s live rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.” It also showed the wrong picture of composer Andre Previn during the montage of photos accompanying the song.

Previn is the four-time Oscar-winning composer and conductor who died in February at age 89. But the photo shown was that of fellow Grammy-winning composer Leonard Slatkin, who is 75, very much alive and currently Music Director Laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Directeur Musical Honoraire of the Orchestre National de Lyon.

Slatkin, whose Hollywood credits include working on the music for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and A Capitol Fourth while conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, took the high road Monday about the gaffe on Twitter.
