This Christmas, you might want to stay on the nice list. A new version of Silent Night, Deadly Night is heading to theaters in late 2025, bringing a fresh take on the cult slasher classic.

Cineverse, the company behind Terrifier 3 and the parent company of Bloody Disgusting, is behind the project, and the first official poster has just been revealed.

The poster, created by Creepy Duck Design, gives a chilling first look at what’s to come. At the same time, Deadline reports that Studiocanal’s genre label, Sixth Dimension, has acquired global rights to the film outside of North America, while Cineverse will handle distribution in the U.S.

Directed by Mike P. Nelson, this new Silent Night, Deadly Night will begin production this spring. It reimagines the 1984 slasher directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr., which followed a young boy who witnessed his parents’ murder at the hands of a man dressed as Santa.

Now, Deadline has broken the news that Sixth Dimension, the new in-house genre label at Studiocanal, has picked up the global rights (excluding North America) to the project as first acquisition. The new Silent Night, Deadly Night will be heading into production this spring, aiming to reach theatres by the end of this year.

Exclusive: Sixth Dimension, Studiocanal’s new in-house genre label led by Jed Benedict, has picked up global rights excluding North America to the reboot of 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night. The project, which is the label’s first acquisition, is heading into production this spring and is slated for a late 2025 theatrical release.

Studiocanal will handle international sales of the project at the upcoming European Film Market and distribute in its own territories in the UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Benelux and Poland. Forty years after parents picketed outside of theaters following the release of the first Santa slasher movie in the franchise, Cineverse has acquired global rights to a new version and is launching during the American Film Market in Las Vegas.

The reboot of the franchise, written and directed by Mike P. Nelson and produced by Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, executive producers of the original 1984 Tri-Star film, alongside Jamie R. Thompson and Anthony Masi, goes into production “soon”. It is currently slated for a late 2025 theatrical release.

Brandon Hill and Brad Miska (Terrifier 3) will oversee for distributor Cineverse — which is riding high off the box office success of Terrifier 3 — and will executive-produce alongside Erick Opeka and Yolanda Macias.

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the classic Christmas slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here) – and to mark the occasion, Scream Factory will be giving the film a 4K Uhd and Blu-ray release on December 10th! Exclusive: Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios (Jeepers Creepers: Reborn) have acquired remake rights to controversial 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night, which Orwo is beginning sales on at the virtual EFM.

The original film’s producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead of Wonderwheel Entertainment are also aboard with a planned delivery date in 2022.

Silent Night, Deadly Night tells the story of a child who is traumatized after seeing his parents killed by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Years later, he dons a Santa suit himself and gets bloody revenge. The movie spawned multiple sequels over the years and a loose remake in 2012.

It was the original that caused a stir, however.

The cult film was among the more controversial films of the ’80s due to its graphic violence and advertising campaign, particularly its posters and TV spots, that made significant emphasis on the killer being dressed as Santa.

December’s home entertainment releases are starting off strong, as we have a great selection of horror and sci-fi titles to get excited for this Tuesday. First up are a pair of holiday horror films: Chris Peckover’s Better Watch Out and the awesome special edition Blu-ray for Silent Night, Deadly Night from the fine folks at Scream Factory. Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series makes its way to both formats this week as well, and Arrow Video has put together a special edition release for The Witch Who Came From the Sea.

Other notable releases for December 5th include The Crucifixion, Dementia 13, 60 Seconds to Die, Werewolves of the Third Reich, and a 4K box set for the Men in Black trilogy.

After Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2 failed to garner even half the reaction that the original film did, the subsequent installments in the franchise from that point forward all went straight-to-video.
