This Christmas, you might want to stay on the nice list. A new version of Silent Night, Deadly Night is heading to theaters in late 2025, bringing a fresh take on the cult slasher classic.
Cineverse, the company behind Terrifier 3 and the parent company of Bloody Disgusting, is behind the project, and the first official poster has just been revealed.
The poster, created by Creepy Duck Design, gives a chilling first look at what’s to come. At the same time, Deadline reports that Studiocanal’s genre label, Sixth Dimension, has acquired global rights to the film outside of North America, while Cineverse will handle distribution in the U.S.
Directed by Mike P. Nelson, this new Silent Night, Deadly Night will begin production this spring. It reimagines the 1984 slasher directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr., which followed a young boy who witnessed his parents’ murder at the hands of a man dressed as Santa.

Nearly four years have gone by since we heard that Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios, the folks behind Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, were going to be making a reboot of the classic Christmas slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here)… and while those plans didn’t work out and Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios are no longer involved, a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake is still moving forward. Back in November, we learned that the film will be coming our way from Cineverse, the company behind the Terrifier franchise, with writer/director Mike P. Nelson at the helm. Now, Deadline has broken the news that Sixth Dimension, the new in-house genre label at Studiocanal, has picked up the global rights (excluding North America) to the project as first acquisition. The new Silent Night, Deadly Night will be heading into production this spring, aiming to reach theatres by the end of this year.

Some fun, holiday-centric news from Deadline today, Cineverse will be taking another stab at the Christmas slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night! Cineverse is best known for distributing Terrifier 3, another Christmas horror movie released this past October and made bank at the box office.
Now, the entertainment company has acquired the global rights to a reimagining of the 1984 cult film from director Charles E. As a result, Billy was sent to an abusive orphanage that only furthered his eventual breakdown and transformation into a killer.

A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...

In a bit of surprising but quite possibly welcome news (depending on who you ask), one of the most controversial and infamous horror movies of the 1980s is getting a reboot. "Silent Night, Deadly Night," the Christmas slasher focused on a guy dressed up as Santa Claus murdering people, is getting a new shot at life. What's more, the company behind the "Terrifier" franchise is making it happen. Buckle up.

Exclusive: Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios (Jeepers Creepers: Reborn) have acquired remake rights to controversial 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night, which Orwo is beginning sales on at the virtual EFM.
The original film’s producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead of Wonderwheel Entertainment are also aboard with a planned delivery date in 2022.
Silent Night, Deadly Night tells the story of a child who is traumatized after seeing his parents killed by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Years later, he dons a Santa suit himself and gets bloody revenge. The movie spawned multiple sequels over the years and a loose remake in 2012.
It was the original that caused a stir, however.
The cult film was among the more controversial films of the ’80s due to its graphic violence and advertising campaign, particularly its posters and TV spots, that made significant emphasis on the killer being dressed as Santa.
