There have been many stories about Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean bonding during the production of George Stevens’ epic “Giant” in Marfa, Texas, in 1955. Though not exactly a “Harold & Maude” scenario, the 24-year-old Dean also developed a strong friendship with Edna Ferber, the diminutive Pulitzer Prize-winning author of such classic novels as “So Big,” “Showboat,” “Cimarron,” and “Giant,” who turned 70 that summer in Marfa. Ferber, who never married, was seen sitting on the back of Dean’s motorcycle as they would take rides during breaks. And she even tried her hand at twirling the lasso.
Author Julie Gilbert, Ferber’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated grand nice and biographer (“Ferber: The Biography of Edna Ferber and Her Circle”), doesn’t think the two were in love. “He was very young,” said Gilbert, who writes about her great aunt and the making of the Oscar-winning film in her latest book “Giant Love” set for a Dec.

Mitzi Gaynor, star of 1950s big-screen musicals including “South Pacific” and “Les Girls” and a series of beloved variety specials in the 1970s, died on Thursday. She was 93.
Gaynor’s management team, Rene Reyes and Shane Rosamonda, confirmed to Variety that she died of natural causes.
“For eight decades she entertained audiences in films, on television and on the stage. She truly enjoyed every moment of her professional career and the great privilege of being an entertainer,” Reyes and Rosamonda wrote in a statement on Gaynor’s X account. “Off stage, she was a vibrant and extraordinary woman, a caring and loyal friend, and a warm, gracious, very funny and altogether glorious human being.”
Gaynor starred as Navy nurse Nellie Forbush in the 1958 big-screen adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific” together with Rossano Brazzi as French planter Emile De Becque and John Kerr as Lt. Cable. Gaynor sang...

If you are looking for a taste of Britain, I recommend trying out Marmite under the rain, or giving “The Italian Job” a watch – although that second option is probably safer. The caper film “The Italian Job” came out more than half a century ago, in 1969 to be precise. It was directed by Scottish filmmaker Troy Kennedy Martin and became a cult classic in the UK almost immediately. Unfortunately, the movie is not nearly as famous overseas, but it definitely deserves its cult status and is worth (re)watching. If you enjoyed “Ocean’s Eleven” (2011) and the other films of the saga, this is the perfect pick for you.
Iconic characters and brilliant performances
Moviegoers enjoy a good heist story: after all, few things are funnier than seeing a resourceful criminal meticulously planning out a con – especially since we all like to root for the underdog. “The Italian Job” gives us all of this and more.

Dame Maggie Smith leaves behind a towering legacy in the wake of her death at the age of 89. The legendary actress spent almost 70 years dominating the stage and screens big and small on both sides of the pond. She won two Oscars, five BAFTAs, four Emmys, and a Tony over the course of many decades, during which she never stopped working and never stopped stealing scenes. She was a generational talent who meant something different to each generation: one of the faces of the ‘60s British invasion of Hollywood; a theatrical legend; character actress; comedic gem; and everyone’s favorite wizarding school deputy headmistress. Smith worked until almost the very end, which included being a supermodel for a 2023 Loewe campaign.
But it was the scathingly witty Dowager Duchess who came to define the final years of her illustrious career and made her one of the most beloved TV stars of the 2010s.

Actress and singer Patti LuPone, known for her work in musical theater, criticized reality star Kim Kardashian over her acting abilities. Interestingly, the conversation was about another starlet’s acting abilities. Notably, this isn’t the first time LuPone has talked about Kardashian.
The Conversation Actually Started About Madonna
LuPone appeared on Hot Ones Versus with actress Aubrey Plaza on the First We Feast YouTube channel. Both actresses appeared to promote the Agatha All Along miniseries, a spin-off of WandaVision.

For the male stripper group Wet Dreams, business is not exactly booming. The bottom has fallen out of the market for four middle-aged blokes taking their kit off and, after a disastrous booking at a birthday party, it looks like it’s time to call it a day. However, front man Alan (Dean Kilbey) decides to buy out longtime manager Deano (Liam Noble) and can’t believe his luck when he instantly lands the guys a lucrative gig in a rural part of Essex.
Of course, there’s a catch – and what a catch it is. Not only has Alan not read the small print about the specific outfits he and his mates will be required to don, neither he nor his mates is prepared for the part they’ve been lined up to play in a ritual which plans to bring a murdered 16th century witch back from the dead.

Deadpool & Wolverine was a significant milestone for the MCU. Not only did it introduce Deadpool and Wolverine to the franchise, but it also, according to Feige, paved the way for mutants in future installments.
The film signaled the start of a more financially successful period for the MCU after a series of box-office disappointments. Additionally, it played a role in reviving Wesley Snipes’ career as Blade.
Wesley Snipes portrayed the iconic vampire-hunter Blade in three films released before the MCU even existed. The success of the first Blade movie was instrumental in reviving Marvel Studios, which was on the brink of bankruptcy at the time.
Fans were thrilled to see Snipes reprise his role, and Ryan Reynolds even began advocating for Snipes to have one final “sendoff movie,” similar to Hugh Jackman’s Logan (2017), to perfectly conclude Blade’s character arc.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ marked several big things for the MCU. First and foremost it introduced Deadpool & Wolverine to the franchise, while, as Feige claims, opening the door for the mutants in the future installments.
It marked the beginning of a more financially positive era for the MCU, following a string of box-office failures. But it also somewhat resurrected Snipes’ career as Blade.
Wesley Snipes appeared as the most notable vampire-hunter in the Marvel universe in three movies released before MCU was a thing. The first movie was successful enough that it managed to resurrect Marvel Studios which was at the time facing bankruptcy.
Fans were elated to see Snipes back in his old role, and Reynolds himself started advocating for Snipes to get one final “sendoff movie” similar to the one Jackman had in ‘Logan’ (2017) that would perfectly round up his characters’ arc.

Kelsey Grammer seems to be a pretty busy guy. In addition to hosting historical docudramas for Fox News’ streaming service and brewing beer in the name of Jesus, he’s also starring in the new World War II drama Murder Company, a movie that probably would do way better were it to change the title to Frasier Crane Joins the Army.
To promote the film, Grammer recently spoke with Yahoo! Canada, revealing that his performance was partly inspired by his grandfather, who was a colonel during World War II. But since chatting with Grammer and not asking about Frasier Crane would be a little like making a trip to Las Vegas and not drunkenly pissing your money away, naturally the subject of the Frasier reboot was brought up.

Match #1: Jey Uso def. Chad Gable The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Broken, beat and scarred from the hellacious Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Jey Uso and Chad Gable went toe-to-toe, still giving everything they had. Just as Gable was about to lock in an Ankle Lock, the lights went out, indicating the arrival of The Wyatt Sicks. This distracted Gable long enough for Uso to hit a Spear to win the match. After the bout, Gable ran away as a Wyatt Sicks member handed another mysterious package to the commentary desk.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Bronson Reed def. Pete Dunne The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Episode 6 of ‘The Acolyte’ offered little excitement or advancement in the overall story this week. While a few mysteries, such as The Power of Two and Qimir’s Jedi background, were teased, the show returned to a slow pace.

Paul McGann will take to the stage for a live recording of a Doctor Who audio drama, here are the details.
If there is one Doctor in the history of Doctor Who who deserved a lot more, it’s Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. Appeaeing onscreen only in the 1996 TV Movie, 2013 mini episode Night Of The Doctor and a cameo in 2022’s The Power Of The Doctor – plus a lovely moment in Peter Davison’s glorious 50th anniversary parody The Fiveish Doctors Reboot – The Eighth Doctor really came into his own at Big Finish.
Since the release of Sirens Of Time in 1999, Big Finish has released new audio adventures for every Doctor, even creating their own alternate versions in the Unbound series.

This week’s episode of ‘The Acolyte’ improved pretty much every aspect of the story. It finally advanced the story, we’ve seen some pretty good action, and some canon-breaking instances are less likely to ultimately come to pass.
The episode received less backlash than usual, with some fans who disliked the show having a minor change of heart, mostly due to impressive action sequences and the somewhat unexpected and brutal direction the show took.
We’ve reported that following the release of Episode 5, the show managed to reclaim one meager point when it comes to audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and overall score on IMDb. However, it seems that it wasn’t enough to draw in what actually counts: viewers.
Between June 13 and June 20, the show has seen a 31% drop in “minutes watched” stats based on Variety’s Luminate data. Many fans came to the defense claiming that this...

If you remember correctly, this episode introduced us to a series of interesting details about the world of The Acolyte, some of which have been received well, while others… not so much.
Some of the fans noticed that the end of Episode 5 features an interesting piece of music – namely, Kylo Ren’s theme from the Sequel Trilogy – which some have interpreted as a hint. Of course, the timeline is not the same,...

The buzz has intensified, especially after several moments in the series challenged the established canon.
However, the series seems to be getting back on track with Episode 5, which is currently the most talked-about piece of television. The Acolyte explores various concepts, some dangerously close to breaking canon, with The Master’s lightsaber notably teetering on the edge of canon and non-canon.
Given this isn’t the first instance of such moments in The Acolyte, we’ve decided to analyze the facts to determine how The Master’s unique lightsaber fits (or doesn’t fit!) into the established Star Wars canon.

Yesterday's episode of The Acolyte finally pulled the curtain back on The Master, confirming the enigmatic Qimir is the Sith villain who instructed Mae to murder the Jedi Masters who confronted her mother's coven years earlier.
While "Qimir" claimed to have no name, the villain has just been given an official moniker by Lucasfilm. Despite being dubbed "The Master" since his first appearance, StarWars.com - and some upcoming merchandise - labels him "The Stranger."
"With a specialized cortosis gauntlet and a mask permanently twisted into a frightful grin, the Stranger with a red-bladed lightsaber appears as if out of thin air," reads an official character description first shared on SFFGazette.com. "While some may call him a Sith, little is known of this dark sider who has been training Mae Aniseya in secret, hiding his face from his pupil."

In ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Episode 5, the identity of Mae’s Sith Lord mentor, Qimir, was finally unveiled. While fans had speculated it was Qimir since the first episode, the revelation was unsettling in its execution.
The Sith Lord, known by aliases such as The Master, The Stranger, and even humorously as Darth Teeth, swiftly defeated nearly all present Jedi. Only Master Sol, Osha, and Mae survived the aftermath of the brutal conflict.
One of the primary criticisms of the episode centered on the implausibility of a young Sith Lord single-handedly defeating numerous trained Jedi and posing a significant threat to Master Sol. However, new theories have emerged that provide a plausible explanation for his prowess, rooted in his unconventional approach to combat.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Episode 5 finally revealed the identity of the Sith Lord who trained Mae. Despite the answer being pretty obvious as fans speculated it was Qimir since the first episode, the manner in which he was introduced was disturbing.
The Sith Lord known under names such as The Master, The Stranger, and more humorously Darth Teeth, managed to make quick work of almost all Jedi present. leaving Master Sol, Osha, and Mae alive in the aftermath of the conflict.
This was actually one of the main criticisms of the episode, as there’s no way a Sith Lord so young might be able to eliminate dozens of trained Jedi, and even pose such a threat to Master Sol. However new theories put forward really easily explain why he managed to defeat all his enemies, and the secret itself lies in his combat form, or rather lack of combat form.

In today's episode of The Acolyte, Manny Jactinto's mild-mannered Qimir is unmasked as the Sith villain Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com) has dubbed the "Stranger."
We've been referring to him as The Master until now but, according to the villain himself, he has no name (perhaps making "Stranger" a better fit). Either way, after seeing him brutally slice his way through the Jedi - including a couple of fan favourites - we know this baddie shouldn't be taken lightly.
Talking to the site, showrunner Leslye Headland addressed the twist and the fact some viewers may have seen this reveal coming.
"I think a good twist is not about hiding everything from the audience and then throwing it on them like, 'Hey, this is what you didn't see! We hid it so well that you didn't see this!'" she said. "I think a good twist is telegraphing what's going to happen,...

Episode 5 of ‘The Acolyte’ was recently released, and it managed to shock fans with its change of pace, direction and it’s sheer brutality. In the last few episodes pretty much nothing happened, and describing the episodes as “slow-burn” would be an understatement.
