Exclusive: Harper Steele, who co-stars with Will Ferrell in the Emmy-nominated documentary Will & Harper, will receive an official proclamation from the city of West Hollywood honoring “her advocacy and continued efforts to uplift the transgender community.”

The Netflix film directed by Josh Greenbaum follows Steele and Ferrell as they embark on a road trip across America to renew their friendship after Steele reveals her gender transition. They initially met on Saturday Night Live, where Steele became head writer and Ferrell broke out as a tremendous comedic performer. The documentary earned five Emmy nominations – tied for the most of any nonfiction project this year – including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, as well as its cinematography, Josh Greenbaum’s directing, and picture editing.

Fans attending the Gen V panel at Comic-Con 2025 got a sneak peak at footage of the fifth and final season that played in the room. Homelander (Antony Starr), now the de facto leader of America, stood in a crowded room proclaiming that the country now under his control will be a “safer, God-fearing nation.” A very quick look at Jared Padalecki, who had previously revealed that he would appear in Season 5, was shown as well.

For everything we know about The Boys Season 5, read on below:

When will The Boys Season 5 come out?

In an interview from Season 4’s launch, showrunner Eric Kripke hinted that production on Season 5 would take at least two years before the final product is complete, so the earliest that the last season could come out would...

For ‘Will & Harper,’ Accessibility Has Been More Impactful Than Awards Success
Image
Even after a successful premiere that led to their documentary becoming not only one of the best reviewed films out of Sundance 2024, but one of the biggest acquisitions out of the festival, “Will & Harper” director Josh Greenbaum and subject Harper Steele were not aware of just how long the journey to becoming an Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special Emmy nominee would take them.

“I had no idea we were even eligible for an Emmy, quite honestly,” said Steele to IndieWire over Zoom. “Depending on the mood I’m in, it was either a cherry on the top or a sad surprise,” she joked, thinking back on the prospect of a second year of awards campaigning.

“Will & Harper,” about Steele going on a road trip with famous friend Will Ferrell to re-establish their relationship now that she has come out as a transgender woman, is the latest example of...

50 Years Later, One of the Most Influential Sci-Fi Series Ever Finds a Free Streaming Home
Image
As Netflix works on reviving this 1970s cult classic sci-fi favorite from half a century ago, a special treat awaits fans, and it comes at just the right time. Land of the Lost, which premiered on September 7, 1974, on NBC, has now been made available to stream for absolutely free ahead of its reboot’s arrival. The show was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, who co-developed it with Allan Foshko, while David Gerrold, though uncredited, created it.

Comprising three seasons and 43 episodes, Land of the Lost is currently streaming on YouTube free with ads, almost fifty years since the show’s final episode aired on December 4, 1976. Since then, many have placed the adventure series in high regard, despite being somewhat cheesy, and even during its run, it was generally well-received, especially by kids and those who enjoyed its adventurous and imaginative storylines.

Given its impressive reception, CBS used Land of the Lost...

NASCAR Phenom Kyle Larson Says ‘Talladega Nights’ Turned the Sport ‘Into a Joke’: ‘Did Not Do Anything Good’
Image
Kyle Larson is arguably the best all-around driver currently behind any wheel, and is a first-place contender every time he competes in the NASCAR Cup Series – just don’t compare him to Ricky Bobby.

The series champ appeared on Tuesday’s episode of the “Games With Names” podcast, hosted by New England Patriots Super Bowl Mvp Julian Edelman. Mid-conversation he was asked whether he liked “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” the 2006 hit comedy starring Will Ferrell as a wildly successful but dim-witted NASCAR driver who coined the phrase “If you’re not first, you’re last.”

“Do (drivers) like ‘Talladega Nights?’ Is that movie funny or is that dumb for you guys?,” co-host Sam Morrill asked Larson, who somewhat hesitated to answer.

“I — I mean I like the movie,” Larson said. “I think it did not do anything good for our sport. I think it turned our sport into like a joke unfortunately.

In the years since SNL, Shannon has starred in the films A Good Person, Promising Young Woman, Other People, Scary Movie 4 and Scary Movie 5, as well as the television series The White Lotus, Divorce, The Other Two, and I Love That For You. Molly Shannon Tees Up With Will Ferrell in Netflix Golf Comedy
Molly Shannon
Molly Shannon has signed on to star opposite Will Ferrell in Netflix’s forthcoming ten-episode golf comedy, reuniting the longtime collaborators on screen for the first time in more than a decade. Ferrell will portray a legendary pro whose dominance is tested when a breakaway league upends the sport, a premise loosely modeled on the real-world PGA-liv rivalry. Shannon’s character, Stacy, is described by the streamer as the blunt confidante who keeps the superstar’s ego in check.

The series—still officially untitled and known internally as Golf—was co-created by Ferrell, comedian Ramy Youssef, and writer Josh Rabinowitz, though Youssef, Rabinowitz, and producing partner Andy Campagna quietly exited last month amid creative differences. Executive production now rests with Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions alongside Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue of T-Street; additional EPs include Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green,...

Molly Shannon Boards Will Ferrell’s Netflix Golf Comedy, Ramy Youssef Exits
Image
Molly Shannon will join her former Saturday Night Live co-star Will Ferrell in a Netflix comedy series, which is also undergoing some off-camera changes.

Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, who were credited as co-creators and executive producers when Netflix picked up the series in May 2024, have departed the untitled show over creative differences, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. Andy Campagna of Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production company has also departed.

Ramy Youssef Exits Will Ferrell’s Netflix Golf Comedy Over Creative Differences; Molly Shannon Joins Cast
Image
Ramy Youssef, Josh Rabinowitz and Andy Campagna have exited as executive producers of Will Ferrell’s upcoming golf comedy series at Netflix due to creative differences.

Variety understands that the leadership change took place last year. Youssef and Rabinowitz were originally announced as co-showrunners in addition to having created the series with Ferrell, who stars as a fictional gold legend. Campagna was executive producing via Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production banner. Cairo Cowboy continues to work with Netflix on an untitled living facility series in development with Steve Way, Youssef’s close friend and collaborator.

Separately, Molly Shannon has joined the series in the role of Stacy. The project reunites her with Ferrell, as the two overlapped as “Saturday Night Live” cast members from 1995 to 2001. More recently, she starred in Season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu and all three seasons of HBO Max’s “The Other Two,...

Megamind: The Underrated Superhero Spoof Trending on Streaming
Image
While they did not release exactly the same weekend, this summer has seen a major superhero movie battle between Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The former hit movie theaters on July 11 and opened to an impressive $125 million. To date, Superman has grossed $551.3 million worldwide.

Then came the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps two weeks later on July 25. That Marvel movie nearly matched Superman's opening, making $117.6 million. Now, it has amassed $367.4 million worldwide, but its total is still growing. Both films also received strong reviews from both critics and audiences.

The prominence of these movies in theaters has led to increased interest in similar titles at home. Many people have been watching previous Fantastic Four movies, for example, preceding the McU's reboot. The Incredibles, a Pixar film often compared to Fantastic Four, is also trending on Disney+. Now, a movie more comparable to Superman is doing well on streaming.

The ‘Saturday Night Live' Fandom Mourns the Late Loni Anderson, Mother to the Roxbury Guys
Image
Following the news that long-time television star Loni Anderson passed this past weekend at the age of 79, the Saturday Night Live and Night at the Roxbury fandoms are coming together to show the late actress some love — whatever that is.

To most comedy fans, Anderson is best known for her role as the perceptive and savvy “bombshell” Jennifer Marlowe on the acclaimed sitcom Wkrp in Cincinnati from 1978 to 1982. Anderson’s performance on Wkrp in Cincinnati netted her three nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and two at the Emmys, which is a hell of a lot more than any actor, writer, director or douchey-costume designer can say about their time working on the reviled, 1998 Saturday Night Live sketch-to-film adaptation A Night at the Roxbury.

In the widely panned comedy movie featuring the two “beloved” SNL “characters” known as The Roxbury Guys, portrayed by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, Anderson played the clubbers’ beautiful,...

Hugh Jackman Was Superman For Just 3 Minutes In 2001

Just a year after the first X-Men film was released, Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman slipped into the famous red undies as Superman for just 3 minutes on Saturday Night Live in 2001. And somehow, this surreal, awkward comedy sketch still manages to be one of the strangest and most fascinating moments in superhero TV history ever. In the SNL bit, Jackman’s Superman enters the Fortress of Solitude and fires up a hologram to chat with his biological parents. Enter Will Ferrell as Jor-El and Maya Rudolph as Lara, giving us a Kryptonian family reunion that feels less like Man of Steel and more like a Zoom call with your emotionally distant folks. Superman’s looking for answers. What he gets is classic SNL-style awkward silences and concerned stares. Will Ferrell’s deadpan delivery nails the tone: “Your planet exploded. The Naked Gun's Director Is A Comedy Legend With A Tragic Box Office Track Record
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"There was a couple years, though, where it was not a big punchline, but where if it came up, you had to disavow it." Those are the words of director Akiva Schaffer, one third of the comedy group The Lonely Island, talking about their 2007 comedy "Hot Rod" on "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast" in 2024. "Even on talk shows, you'd have to, like, really make sure you made fun of it before they did."

Time has been kind to "Hot Rod," with the film achieving cult status over the years. In its day though, the comedy was a flat out flop. Despite Schaffer's success alongside his partners Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone on "Saturday Night Live," this pattern of flop-turned-cult-classic would...

Liam Neeson on Not Rewatching ‘Naked Gun’ Films, Why the World Needs Silly Movies and Ending His Action Star Era: ‘I’m 73, for F—’s Sake’
Image
More than 30 years after the “Naked Gun” franchise enjoyed its “Final Insult” in 1994, arguably the world’s most beloved slapstick spoof film series is back for another slice of straight-faced silliness — and to test the contemporary box office waters of big-screen comedy.

Leslie Nielsen, whose legendary turn as bumbling L.A. detective Frank Drebin still has fans merrily reciting his most famous lines, died in 2010. For Paramount’s new reboot “The Naked Gun,” out Aug. 1, Liam Neeson has been recruited to follow in the Canadian icon’s deadpan footsteps as his equally incompetent (but decidedly less silver-haired) detective son, Frank Drebin Jr.

Also starring Pamela Anderson and directed and co-written by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, the legacy sequel to the original three films is awash in visual gags, absurd one-liners, terrible driving, comically Ott action scenes, sexual innuendo, at least one montage featuring an angry snowman and more...

For Akiva Schaffer and His New ‘Naked Gun,’ Resurrecting the Theatrical Comedy Is No Joke
Image
In a phony public service announcement that ran in theaters before certain movies, Liam Neeson, star of the new “The Naked Gun,” addressed a concern that he cares deeply about: the plight of big screen comedies.

In a tone not dissimilar from Sarah McLachlan pleading for donations for abandoned animals, Neeson gravely said, “Every passing year, more comedies go unmade, unseen and unquoted.” Over a montage of clips from successful Paramount comedies, Neeson continued: “And for the price of one movie ticket, you can help rescue a comedy and in the process share a smile, a laugh and even the occasional groan with the people in your very own community. Right now there’s a comedy movie that needs you. Please, buy a ticket right now.”

The PSA was a joke, of course. But the dilemma is very real.

Over the course of the past few years, the big screen...

Cheri Oteri Wasn’t Asked to Participate in ‘SNL50’
Image
Back in the ‘90s, Cheri Oteri was one of Saturday Night Live’s biggest stars, famous for playing characters like the overly-medicated Colette Reardon, Arianna the Spartan cheerleader, 20/20 host Barbara Walters and, of course, the “simmer down now” lady.

But Oteri didn’t appear on stage during this year’s SNL50. Why? Because apparently nobody asked her to…

Oteri recently guested on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, and just before the episode ended, Carvey brought up the anniversary special. “What did you do on the 50th? I missed it. Were you there? Did you do anything?” the Master of Disguise star inquired.

“No, I was not asked to do anything. I sat in the audience,” Oteri replied.

“Bastards,” Carvey responded. “Waste of talent.”

While you’d think that bringing back Oteri and Will Ferrell’s Spartan Cheerleaders during SNL50 would have been a no-brainer,...

“We didn’t even know how we were going to pull it off”: Together Stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie on the Year’s Buzziest Horror Film (Interview)
Image
Hollywood is full of power couples: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. But Dave Franco and Alison Brie have taken “power couple” to another level, starring and producing in the buzziest horror movie of the year, Together, a darkly satirical exploration of codependency through body horror.

We at FandomWire got to speak with Together stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie about working together as a couple on such an intense horror movie, the natural transition from comedy to horror, and why movies like Together demand the big screen experience. Check out the full interview here:

Together Dave Franco and Alison Brie Interview

FandomWire: Obviously, you guys are married in real life, and in Together, you play a couple. If you could remake any movie about a couple, starring yourselves, what would you choose?

Watson Recasts Sherlock Holmes With Emmy-Nominated Genre Actor for Season 2
Image
There's a new Sherlock Holmes coming to Watson next season. Matt Berry, who voiced the legendary detective in a lone Season 1 episode, will not reprise the role in the flesh for Season 2.

Instead, per Deadline, Robert Carlyle will step into the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes for the CBS medical drama series' sophomore outing, which will premiere this fall. "We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in Season 2," shared Watson showrunner Craig Sweeny in a statement. "The man has played iconic roles in projects like Trainspotting, The Full Monty and 28 Weeks Later, and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes."

"We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in Season 2."

Robert Carlyle To Play Sherlock Holmes In ‘Watson’ Season 2
Image
Robert Carlyle is set to bring to life the legendary literary detective Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of the CBS series Watson. Carlyle will appear in a recurring guest role, working opposite series lead Morris Chestnut, who plays Dr. John Watson.

The investigative medical drama is a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries. While Watson’s team of “doc-tectives” may have defeated Moriarty (Randall Park) last season, they remain determined in Season 2 in their mission to investigate and treat the world’s rarest diseases for their clinic’s patients.

With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past — one that lies hidden within his own body.

What Happened To SNL Star Chris Kattan?
Image
Although he never loomed quite as large as Will Ferrell or Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan was a major player on "Saturday Night Live" from the moment he signed on. He was famous for playing jittery characters, perhaps most of all for the monkey Mr. Peepers. It's a character that's aggressive, weird, and brimming with confidence. If Kattan faltered for even a moment here, if he'd shown even the tiniest sign of self-doubt, the sketch wouldn't have worked. Instead, it became one of the most famous "SNL" characters to come out of the '90s:

But despite how popular Kattan was in the late '90s and early '00s, he rarely returns for "SNL" cameos these days, nor does he seem to be in many TV shows or movies lately. How could the guy behind Mango and Gay Hitler become such an afterthought in "SNL" history? Officially, Chris Kattan left...

If You Loved Happy Gilmore 2, You’ll Adore These 5 Comedy Films
Image
28 years after the release of Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler is back with his sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. Set 29 years after Happy Gilmore won his first Tour Championship, he now returns to play golf for his daughter’s ballet school.

Just like the first film, the sequel is full of Sandler’s blend of potty‑mouth wit, underdog grit, and heartfelt redemption. The sequel brings back the beloved golf icon nearly three decades after the original, with nostalgic callbacks, the classic soundtrack, and a plot that finds Happy mentoring the next generation while still throwing fastballs (or golf tees) at anyone who gets in his way.

Reuniting Sandler with several of the original stars like Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Blake Clark, and Christopher McDonald, the film also stars several fresh faces like Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and his daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler. A sports comedy drama that would reignite your love for absurd premises,...

The 15 Best Props That Actors Have Stolen From Movie Sets
Image
Imagine that you're back in high school. A terrifying thought for some, but maybe you found joy because you were involved in the theater department and participated in the fall drama or the spring musical. And when you were a graduating senior, then you almost definitely took a keepsake from that final production to commemorate the fond memories from your time in the program.

Now, imagine that those theater kids grew up to be professional actors. Since old habits die hard, some of them are still out here taking mementos from their productions left and right. Even some of the biggest names in the industry today have managed to snag iconic props or pieces of a beloved set piece after they've wrapped production.

We haven't set out to snitch on anyone, but many performers have outed themselves for taking stuff from a set. So to indulge in a bit of...

Ryan Gosling Takes Flight With Must-See First 5 Minutes of ‘Project Hail Mary’

Ryan Gosling set the world on fire earlier this month with the release of the new Project Hail Mary trailer, and now the film just got another exciting look. Amazon MGM debuted new footage, including the first five minutes, from Project Hail Mary at San Diego Comic-Con, showing never-before-seen looks as Gosling as former-scientist-turned-school-teacher Ryland Grace, as well as his confidants Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) and Annie Shapiro (Liz Kingsman). The first Project Hail Mary trailer shattered records, earning over 400 million views during its first week — the most of any original film, ever. Drew Goddard wrote the script for Project Hail Mary, which is based on the Andy Weir-penned novel of the same name. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, famous for their work on Into and Across the Spider-Verse, are directing.

Fans of classic space sci-fi movies like Interstellar, The Martian, and Ad Astra are likely to enjoy Project Hail Mary,...
