Exclusive: Harper Steele, who co-stars with Will Ferrell in the Emmy-nominated documentary Will & Harper, will receive an official proclamation from the city of West Hollywood honoring “her advocacy and continued efforts to uplift the transgender community.”

The Netflix film directed by Josh Greenbaum follows Steele and Ferrell as they embark on a road trip across America to renew their friendship after Steele reveals her gender transition. They initially met on Saturday Night Live, where Steele became head writer and Ferrell broke out as a tremendous comedic performer. The documentary earned five Emmy nominations – tied for the most of any nonfiction project this year – including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, as well as its cinematography, Josh Greenbaum’s directing, and picture editing.

On Wednesday (August 6), it was announced that the 60-year-old Emmy-nominated actress will be starring alongside her former Saturday Night Live co-star in an upcoming golf comedy series.

In the 10-episode series, Will, 58, will be playing Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a fictional golf legend while Molly will be playing his foul-mouthed ex-wife Stacy.

In the 10-episode series, Ferrell stars as fictional golf legend, Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins. The untitled Netflix golf comedy is Ferrell’s first-ever scripted TV series. The project has been in the works since 2024 and has undergone major creative changes. Despite those shifts, production is underway. And Shannon’s casting signals a return to the iconic comedic chemistry fans loved from their SNL years.

A Saturday Night Live reunion is coming to Netflix. Will Ferrell will reunite with one of his former co-stars in his upcoming Netflix comedy series centered around a fictional golf legend.

Netflix announced, via its Tudum website, that Molly Shannon has joined the untitled comedy series as Stacy. She will appear in all 10 episodes. Shannon and Ferrell's respective times as cast members on SNL almost perfectly sync up, with the two both joining in 1995. However, Shannon left in 2001, while Ferrell didn't depart the hit sketch comedy series until 2002. In the years since SNL, Shannon has starred in the films A Good Person, Promising Young Woman, Other People, Scary Movie 4 and Scary Movie 5, as well as the television series The White Lotus, Divorce, The Other Two, and I Love That For You. She most recently appeared in the fourth season of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building.

Molly Shannon will join her former Saturday Night Live co-star Will Ferrell in a Netflix comedy series, which is also undergoing some off-camera changes.

Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, who were credited as co-creators and executive producers when Netflix picked up the series in May 2024, have departed the untitled show over creative differences, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. Andy Campagna of Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production company has also departed.

The series stars Ferrell as a fictional golf legend and will mark his first continuing role in a comedy series (as opposed to the sketch/variety world of SNL). Shannon, whose recent credits include Only Murders in the Building and The Other Two, will play a character named Stacy.

More than 30 years after the “Naked Gun” franchise enjoyed its “Final Insult” in 1994, arguably the world’s most beloved slapstick spoof film series is back for another slice of straight-faced silliness — and to test the contemporary box office waters of big-screen comedy.

Leslie Nielsen, whose legendary turn as bumbling L.A. detective Frank Drebin still has fans merrily reciting his most famous lines, died in 2010. For Paramount’s new reboot “The Naked Gun,” out Aug. 1, Liam Neeson has been recruited to follow in the Canadian icon’s deadpan footsteps as his equally incompetent (but decidedly less silver-haired) detective son, Frank Drebin Jr.

Also starring Pamela Anderson and directed and co-written by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, the legacy sequel to the original three films is awash in visual gags, absurd one-liners, terrible driving, comically Ott action scenes, sexual innuendo, at least one montage featuring an angry snowman and more...

In a phony public service announcement that ran in theaters before certain movies, Liam Neeson, star of the new “The Naked Gun,” addressed a concern that he cares deeply about: the plight of big screen comedies.

In a tone not dissimilar from Sarah McLachlan pleading for donations for abandoned animals, Neeson gravely said, “Every passing year, more comedies go unmade, unseen and unquoted.” Over a montage of clips from successful Paramount comedies, Neeson continued: “And for the price of one movie ticket, you can help rescue a comedy and in the process share a smile, a laugh and even the occasional groan with the people in your very own community. Right now there’s a comedy movie that needs you. Please, buy a ticket right now.”

The PSA was a joke, of course. But the dilemma is very real.

Instead, per Deadline, Robert Carlyle will step into the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes for the CBS medical drama series' sophomore outing, which will premiere this fall. Robert Carlyle is set to bring to life the legendary literary detective Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of the CBS series Watson. Carlyle will appear in a recurring guest role, working opposite series lead Morris Chestnut, who plays Dr. John Watson.

The investigative medical drama is a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.
