Shōgun creators and Emmy winners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo and visual effects veteran Robert Legato are among the notable speakers slated to appear at next month’s Infinity Festival.

The seventh annual edition of the fest is set for November 6 to 9 at the Aster and the next door Avalon Theater in Hollywood. Panels, demos and exhibits will span film, technology, gaming and other areas. Deadline is a presenting media sponsor of Infinity Festival.

Marks and Kondo, recently Emmy-minted for their FX series, will be part of the Entertainment, Technology and Los Angeles Thought Leaders track. Also in that part of the speaker lineup is Legato, known for his work on Titanic as well as the 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King. San Diego Comic-Con's 2024 Special Guest List Is One More Reason to Get Excited - Main Image

The upcoming San Diego Comic-Con is right around the corner, and fans would want to know which artists the convention center will welcome to the panel. Check out the special guests at the San Diego Comic-Con this 2024 below!

The comic-con will last from Thursday, July 25 up to Sunday, July 28, 2024. Attendees can plan ahead of their agendas for the convention once they see which of their favorite authors and artists they'll get to see live. Here are a few highlights:

Last year, Abrams Books released the first volume in an omnibus collecting "The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror" comics, bringing some spectacular horror comedy work to your bookshelf, including some adaptations of the beloved Halloween episodes of the animated series. Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham arrives in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Here's a look at the character's bizarre history.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse stars not only beloved web-slinger Peter Parker, but various alternate-universe versions of the Spider-Man concept. Obviously, the protagonist is Miles Morales – originally Parker’s successor in the Ultimate Universe – but he’s joined by other wall-crawlers. All of them are widely different, such as a hard-boiled crime-fighter from the 1930s, a superhero alternative to Parker’s doomed girlfriend, a schoolgirl with an arachnid-based robot, and a cartoon pig.

Of Spider-Man’s heroic knockoffs, almost all of them come from the last decade. Spider-Man Noir first showed up in 2009, Miles in 2011, and both Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker in 2014. Spider-Ham, on the other hand, has been around for 35 years! Holy crap, has it really been that long?

Gail Simone, comics writer, chief architect of Lion Forge’s Catalyst Prime line, and contributor to Mine! had many thoughts on the closing of Bongo Comics. With her permission, we reprint her essay here.

So, this is painful to talk about.

Apparently, Bongo Comics is shutting down production, and the last issue of Simpsons Comics will be issue 245, after 25 years.

I don’t know the particulars of it, I haven’t asked for inside knowledge. But it’s a shame for a number of reasons.

Just culturally, Simpsons were often the Only comics available on some newsstands. They were also one of the few non-superhero books to have loyal followers And casual readers. They employed top-notch creative and editorial people.

And personally, they were the first professional publisher to hire a particular red-headed hairdresser from the Oregon boonies.

Imagine a time, 1993. Super heroes ran the comics with their magnificent, pumped up anatomy, the Sega genesis battled the Nes with its “blast processing”, and Michael Gallagher was contacted by Daryl Edelman to write a sonic comic for Archie. As was described to him by Edelman, Sonic is a wisecracking blue hedgehog who battles Dr. Ivo Robotnik, which is evident on the cover of the premier Issue #0. This cover is of a lower quality compared to the art inside this issue, but has the charm of a brand new series. Robotnik’s eyes are white on the cover and the page 1 full-page art, introducing the cast. All of the character art definitely reminds readers of Sega concept art for the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Ken Krueger, superfan and first chairman of the event that would become San Diego Comic-Con, died on November 21 from a heart attack. With Shelton Dorf and a group of young fans, Krueger organised the first Golden State Comic-Con, which was held from August 1 to August 3 1970.
