American Idol season 21 is jam-packed with talented singers, and a few of them have previous experience with a reality singing competition show, as they appeared on The Voice. The American Idol judges traveled to Las Vegas, Nashville, and New Orleans to choose the best singers from the auditions. Those contestants then moved on to Hollywood Week, during which they performed in three rounds of competition. Instead of the American Idol genre challenge, the first round of Hollywood Week allowed the contestants to choose one of three areas that they wanted to work on: confidence, songwriting, or stage presence.

Two American Idol alumni mentors worked with the contestants in each category: confidence (Clay Aiken and David Archuleta), songwriting (Catie Turner and Phillip Phillips), and stage presence (Jordin Sparks and Justin Guarini). Season 20 winner Noah Thompson also guided the contestants. The second round was duets, during which the contestants chose their partners.

“American Idol,” the iconic series that revolutionized the television landscape by pioneering the music competition genre, is back for another season on ABC. American Idol did not *ahem* go easy on viewers during the first half of this season’s Final Judgment on Sunday, ending on yet another cliffhanger.

With 11 contestants already sent through to the Top 24 ahead of them, Paige Anne and Megan Danielle were called before the judges to learn their fates. But even after their Showstopper performances — Anne managed to slay Sia’s “California Dreamin'” from the safety of her hotel room, while Danielle wowed with a countrified take on Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” — the judges still couldn’t decide between them.

Debating which Disney animated film reigns supreme as the greatest of all time is a fool's errand, but if I was given a vote, I'd throw some love toward "A Goofy Movie." While it's not about a singing princess making her dreams come true or "Hamlet" but with lions, "A Goofy Movie" is a silly, heartwarming road-trip movie about generational differences and coming-of-age in a single-parent household. As a youngster, I very much saw myself in Max Goof (Jason Marsden), a rebellious teen constantly embarrassed by his well-meaning father and hiding his adolescent insecurity by performing. I distinctly remember sharing the second-hand embarrassment during the pair's excursion to Lester's Possum Park, imagining how I too would cringe out of my skin if my parents were that excited about broken, animatronic nightmare possums.

As I grew older, my perspective shifted. Re-watching "A Goofy Movie" as an adult, I couldn't help myself from immediately siding with Goofy.

The Bel-Air showrunner previews more references to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Bel-Air season 2 continues to focus on the character of Will Smith (Jabari Banks) as he acclimates to his new life with affluent relatives. But even as it charts a more soapy path than its sitcom predecessor, the Peacock drama does find a few ways to connect back to the original Fresh Prince. This is evident in the first few episodes of Bel-Air season 2, which features Fresh Prince star, Tatyana Ali. The actor, who played Ashley in the original show, has a pivotal role in the new series as a teacher named Mrs. Hughes.

Viewers had a hard time picking the finalists on The Voice season 22, as there was such a stellar cast, and several surprising eliminations. Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Camila Cabello all had strong teams this season, with performers as young as 17 years old. While Team Blake ultimately took home the title after Bryce Leatherwood won this season, some fans were hoping for a different top five in the finale.

The Voice season 22 brought back the elements that fans of the show love, starting with the blind auditions. No one from Team Gwen made it into the top 5, which shocked many viewers, given her talented lineup. FX's "Atlanta" is known for throwing viewers a curveball or two, but the show's reputation for unpredictable twists is why many will miss it after it concludes its final season this fall. Over the course of four seasons, the critically acclaimed series has turned itself into must-see TV for its bold innovation and sharp comedy, but the show's surprise guest appearances every now and then have also become a fan-favorite trend.

Issa Rae is living the dream. The "Insecure" star was serenaded by Usher during his Las Vegas residency show at Park MGM on Oct. 15, and watching the performance is guaranteed to make you blush.

In a video Usher posted on Instagram, the singer croons his hit 2004 track "Superstar" to Rae - quite the apt song choice for the Golden Globe-nominated actor and producer - as she beams from ear to ear, holds his hands, and dances along. Rae somehow manages to remain calm, cool, and collected the whole time, despite the fact that she has a front-row seat to Usher's angelic vocals and suave moves. The clip ends just as he pulls her onto the stage steps for even more serenading.

You sit down to watch a film you idolized in your childhood — and haven't seen in just as long — only to discover a far less magical or even entertaining experience. Refresh for updates GLAAD has reached out to Empire star Jussie Smollett following what Chicago police are describing as a possible hate crime in which the black, openly gay actor was beaten outside a restaurant by two men who reportedly shouted racist and homophobic epithets.

“GLAAD reached out to Fox and Jussie’s team today to offer assistance as well as support for him,” GLAAD said in a statement. “Jussie is a true champion for Lgbtq people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world.”

The attackers reportedly punched Smollett before pouring an unknown chemical substance over him. At some point during the attack, one of the suspects wrapped a rope around Smollett’s neck before fleeing the scene. Early and unconfirmed press reports said the attackers shouted pro-Maga statements and wore Maga hats or ski masks. The police statement did not confirm or address those details.

Let’s be honest, puberty isn’t kind to any of us. Weird things happen to chins, hair gets fuzzy, voices get squeaky and deepen (especially awkward if you’re a girl). But it’s normal! As non-celebrity civilians, we learn to develop stellar personalities to distract from the acne and move on with our lives. Not so easy for child stars. For kids and teens whose careers depend on their adorability factor — who can support their entire family for a year with their dimples — losing their cutie-pie good looks can be disastrous. Look at The Brady Bunch’s Susan Olsen. As Cindy Brady, the lisping daughter with the boing-boing blonde curls, she was a star. But sadly, she grew up to look like a tough-but-lovable bartender in a biker-themed pub in San Fran. Or Tevin Campbell, who was prom-date-perfect as a tween/teen R&B hottie.

The Voice‘s Season 3 premiere began and ended with almost unbearable suspense.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a 20th Anniversary Edition for Boyz N The Hood on Blu-ray for July 19th, 2011. The film is largely known for being one of the great gangster dramas from the 1990s, making director John Singelton (2 Fast 2 Furious), Ice Cube, and future Oscar-winner (for Jerry Mcguire) Cuba Gooding, Jr. all stars.

Director John Singleton’s acclaimed 1991 crime drama Boyz N the Hood is making its way to high-definition Blu-ray on July 19. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will bring out the film in a 20th Anniversary Edition priced at $19.95.

Nominated for two Academy Awards, the movie tells the story of three friends growing up on the streets of Los Angeles’ South Central. Ice Cube (Lottery Ticket) stars as Doughboy, an unambitious drug dealer; Morris Chestnut (TV’s V) as his brother Ricky, a college-bound teenage father; and Cuba Gooding Jr. (The Hit List) as Ricky’s best friend Tre, who aspires to get out of the Hood. Laurence Fishburne (Armored) plays Gooding Jr.’s strong father. Of course, as they try to get out, a tragedy pulls them back in and violence seems like the only answer.

"American Idol" ended last week in a swirl of shock, anger and boo- hooing as Pia Toscano was sent home and Ryan Seacrest was reduced to begging viewers: "We need you! Stay with us this season!"

Where does the show go from here? Well, "Idol" will be relying on the bright lights of Hollywood to wash out memories of arguably the most shocking elimination in its history, as the remaining eight singers take on songs of the cinema. That's a familiar theme in "Idol" land, one last seen just last year (recall how Crystal Bowersox gave a killer country-rock makeover to Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright"), but which stretches back all the way to season two.

What direction should the contestants take?...

A blend of soul, rock and funk defines the sound of Aj Sarcione.s voice. One of the fun things about TV shows is you never know who will pop up as a guest star. And sometimes remarkable guest star roles can even lead to Emmys.

But what happened to the notable black guest stars of yonder? You know, back when there were hit TV shows starring a black cast.

And now??? What TV show is giving us black guest stars? I can’t think of one show. Lincoln Heights had the possibility but ABC Family canceled it and unfortunately the show never caught on like the aforementioned programs.

Akon and Quincy Jones love to crack jokes on each other. On the set of the video for the remake of "Strawberry Letter 23," Kon started the jesting by claiming he'd introduced Jones to a plethora of pretty women.

"You know that's not true," the legendary producer said, prompting a chuckle from Akon. Then, when Kon called the legendary producer "Uncle Q," Jones insisted that the two men were the same age.

Akon is one of many stars to have contributed to the LP Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, which is due sometime this spring or summer. The collection of performers and producers will deliver renditions of some of Jones' greatest hits.

Michael Lynche caught a big break this week when the "American Idol" judges used their second-ever save to keep him in the competition. This got us thinking about other reality-show second chances, including Speidi on "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" and Chris March from "Project Runway," but my personal favorite was left out.
