Twenty-five years ago I experienced Robert Zemeckis’ bone-chilling ghost story What Lies Beneath in theaters. I was thirteen at the time and remember being blown away by it in the moment. At the time, I was ecstatic about X-Men, which I’d seen the week prior. I distinctly remember walking out of the small theater in my home town and declaring, “That was better than X-Men!” I hadn’t seen What Lies Beneath since the early 2000s, and while I no longer think it’s better than Bryan Singer’s original entry in the long running Marvel franchise, it still holds up as a well-crafted ghost story featuring strong performances from two Hollywood icons.

What Lies Beneath will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray release from Scream Factory on May 6.

The 2000 horror-thriller has been newly restored from the original 35mm camera negative, approved by cinematographer Don Burgess, with Dolby Vision.

Andy Tennant, the director of the Will Smith-led romantic comedy Hitch, says that the star is now working on a seque...without his involvement. The 2005 rom-com was one of the year's highest-grossing films, making more than $371 million at the global box office from a $70 million production budget. The reception by critics was also pretty solid, and today it sits at 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thus, the film, which turns 20 this year, stands as one of Will Smith's most successful films from that decade.

Tennant recently spoke to Business Insider about Hitch and revealed that Smith is developing a sequel for the film. At one point, Sony Pictures planned to make a TV show based on the same concept, but the project fizzled out. However, according to Tennant, Smith is still planning a follow-up film to be produced by his studio, Overbrook Entertainment, and the actor has decided to go forward...

Will Smith's romantic comedy Hitch scored with theatergoers back in 2005, but "it was madness" trying to make the movie, according to the film’s director, Andy Tennant. The filmmaker clashed with the A-list actor who hired him to helm the classic rom-com, because of conflicting story ideas, and Smith even threatened to drop out of the project three days before filming began. Nevertheless, Tennant claims not to “have anything against” Smith in a new interview published at the time of Hitch’s 20th anniversary. Tennant said (via Business Insider):

"He [Smith] hired me to make this movie. It was not an easy job for anybody, but we went around the world with the movie. Even [during] the hard times he’d always say, 'Wait until the junket. We’re gonna go around the world with this.' And we did, and it was great. It was the most amazing trip I had ever been on.

In a new interview, the filmmaker looked back at how it was shooting the 2005 romantic comedy that also starred Eva Mendes, Kevin James, Amber Valletta, Michael Rapaport, and Adam Arkin.

“We had our difficulties. The movie I wanted to make and the movie Will wanted to make neither one of those movies is as good as the movie we made together,” Tennant told Business Insider. “It was a battle. [Smith’s wife] Jada [Pinkett Smith] was a big help. She kind of seconded some of my instincts. There was a time during prep when I was pushing back. A lot of crazy shit that was happening.”

Tennant made Hitch after Sweet Home Alabama and detailed that some of the “crazy shit” happening started right from the get-go.

“There was a draft that Will brought in that I was not a fan of.

Earlier in the night, the 36-year-old entertainer made a surprise appearance on stage to present an award to her friend Jahleel, who is also creative director of Fenty Beauty.

The company describes the Spring 2024 campaign, titled “In Women We Trust,” as “a resounding celebration of the brand’s iconic heritage that now marks a new chapter in both legacy and future.”

“‘In Women We Trust’ is such a powerful statement,” said model and actress Amber Valletta in a release about appearing in the campaign. “We need more women to lead us into the future because women think differently.”

It’s lonely at the top, but he consoles himself with his Ferrari, penthouse apartment in New York, and hook-ups with women such as supermodel Amber Valletta, who has a small role as his bedmate early in the film. From slashers set in the middle of the woods to bone-chilling haunted houses, the horror genre's versatility never ceases to terrify the different types of horror fan. That said, there are plenty of movies in the genre that aren't for the faint of heart, and watching these creepy films with the lights on can be advised.

The horror fandom is as diverse as the genre itself, and while some love the immersion of watching a horror film with the lights off and alone in the dark, this isn't true for everyone. Halloween is an especially great time to watch these terrifying movies, and there's always something for everyone. Horror is at its best when it can scare viewers enough to look over their shoulders and switch the lights on for some extra piece of mind, and some movies are a testament to that.

Having taken the world by storm with "Saw" in 2004, Australian director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell were suddenly the hottest new act in horror. Unfortunately, three years later, the duo would suffer the dreaded "sophomore slump" with "Dead Silence," an original puppet horror film that was lambasted by critics and bombed at the box office, barely matching its $20 million budget. It's a shame, honestly. I won't deny that "Dead Silence" has its problems (which we will get into), but it's also an enthrallingly gothic tale of mystery and the macabre (one bursting with creative ideas and inventively ghastly visuals). Not to mention it functions as a useful primer for the rest of Wan and Whannell's horror oeuvre.

"Dead Silence" starts out pretty nasty and only gets meaner the further along it goes. Upon being anonymously gifted with a ventriloquist doll named Billy (think Slappy from "Goosebumps" only somehow even...
