Jason Momoa Remembers When He Almost Died Surfing in Hawaii: ‘I Literally Gave Up’ | Video
Image
“Aquaman” and “Chief of War” star Jason Momoa went on “Smartless” Monday, where he told the harrowing story of a near-death surfing experience at the Jaws surf break in Maui. At the time, the actor didn’t think he would make it out alive.

“We paddled 13 miles down the coast, and you’re kind of almost a mile offshore, and then my leash snapped,” Momoa recalled of his trip with friends. “It’s so windy on Maui, and so the board just went. I couldn’t even see it anymore.”

He sat down with “Smartless” hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes to discuss his career amid the premiere season of his new Apple TV+ project, “Chief of War.” Roughly 17 minutes into the episode, Momoa talked about the nearly fatal trip that changed his life.

“Wait, so tell me, when you’re in that position of almost drowning, what...

‘Will & Grace’: How Eric McCormack Found The Will To Play Will
Sean Hayes, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, and Megan Mullally in Will & Grace (1998)
Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

When the iconic sitcom Will & Grace first premiered on NBC in 1998, featuring an openly gay man as a lead character was considered truly risky. It was a groundbreaking proposition in network television. This daring move came just a year after Ellen DeGeneres’s eponymous sitcom, Ellen, had been cancelled. That followed a significant ratings nosedive, largely perceived as a backlash to her character’s historic on-screen coming out episode. At the time, the landscape of LGBTQ+ representation on mainstream TV was still nascent. It often met with trepidation from advertisers and some audiences.

To NBC’s immense credit, they chose to take a chance on Will & Grace. Their gamble paid off handsomely. The show was rewarded with an incredibly successful eight-season original run. It became a cultural phenomenon and a staple of “Must See TV.” Furthermore, its enduring popularity led to a...

The Running Man | Trailer lands for Edgar Wright’s movie
Image
The Running Man is back in cinemas this winter, only this time, Edgar Wright has made it. Here’s the trailer.

This November sees the release of The Running Man courtesy of Paramount Pictures, marking Edgar Wright’s follow-up to 2021’s Last Night In Soho and adding yet another spin on a Stephen King novel to the glut of adaptations that we’ve been getting lately.

Stephen King’s novel is a pretty dark affair. He even wrote it under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman, a pen name that allowed him to exercise a more cynical and nasty streak to his work. While that may yet prove to be the case with the final film, the first trailer is presented in a hyper-kinetic style with several signature Edgar Wright flourishes. In short, it looks like it’s going to be a good time at the movies.

Glen Powell will play...

SmartLess Mobile Wants You To Stop Overpaying – And They’re Not Exactly Subtle About It
Image
Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, the minds (and mouths) behind the wildly popular SmartLess podcast - are taking on a new role: mobile entrepreneurs. With the launch of SmartLess Mobile, the trio is serving up a new kind of wireless service: direct-to-consumer, data-sane, and refreshingly Bs-free.

Bringing the same smart, self-deprecating humor that’s made their podcast a massive hit, the team has a new mission: help people stop paying for mobile data they don’t use – and don’t need. It’s time to stop getting outsmarted by your phone bill.

Most people don’t realize that nearly 90% of their phone’s data use happens over Wi-Fi, whether that occurs at home, work, school or the millions of free hotspots across the country. The need for expensive unlimited data plans is rapidly evolving, and SmartLess Mobile challenges the industry norm that "more data" means "better value".

The White Lotusstar and Hollywood icon Parker Posey recalls not understanding her own jokes on Will & Grace.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Posey opened up about her time on the hit sitcom, recalling, "I would say stuff like on Will & Grace and people would laugh, and I'd be like, 'I don't get it.'" Posey went on to discuss her Will & Grace character, Dorleen, saying, "I take it seriously, and then you go, 'Oh, well, that was kind of funny,' and then they throw jokes at you as you're doing it, because everyone else has been doing it for a few years... SmartLess Mobile: Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes Get Into the Telecom Business
Image
Can a hit podcast translate into a hit phone company? The team behind SmartLess will find out.

SmartLess hosts and creators Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes are launching a new mobile phone brand called SmartLess Mobile Tuesday, betting that their success in reaching people through their phones can lead to a piece of the mobile business.

“Our SmartLess podcast now reaches millions of listeners each month, almost all of whom listen on their phones,” said Bateman in a statement. “Extending the SmartLess brand into mobile is a logical next step.”

It isn’t entirely crazy: While the trio of Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are the dominant players, there is a burgeoning marketplace of smaller pre-paid options, and some of those have found meaningful success. In fact Mint Mobile, which counted Ryan Reynolds as an investor and co-founder, sold to T-Mobile in a $1.3 billion deal in 2023.

Image
An ailing Billy Joel was not in attendance tonight at the world premiere HBO documentary about his life and music but sent word to a packed Beacon Theater in NYC via its director.

“Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all. He said ‘getting old sucks, but it’s still preferable to getting cremated’,” relayed Susan Lacy, who helmed and produced the doc Billy Joel: And So It Goes with Jessica Levin. Part 1 of 2 opened the Tribeca Festival Wednesday.

“Billy may be considered the poet laureate of New York. You feel the essence of our city in his lyrics,” said Tribeca Enterprises’ Robert De Niro introducing the festival and the film with co-founder Jane Rosenthal.

Why Parker Posey Says She Was “Gaslit” Into Thinking She Couldn’t Lead Big Studio Movies
Image
Parker Posey is opening up about the challenges she faced when making the jump from indie films to studio movies earlier in her career.

The White Lotus star made a recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, where she was asked for her reaction to being labeled the “indie queen” in the ’90s, thanks to her iconic roles in Party Girl, Flirt, Dazed and Confused and The Daytrippers. However, Posey admitted that it actually hindered her from getting roles in major studio projects.

“I felt like I was called a name, in a way,” she explained. “My path was more like, ‘Oh, [The Daytrippers director] Greg Mottola did a reading of his movie that he was trying to get financed,’ and then I introduced him to Liev Schreiber who was in Party Girl, and then we do The Daytrippers a year later.

'Who Is This Person?': Michael Cera Meeting Jackie Chan Was Just as Awkward as You'd Expect
Image
Actor Michael Cera has appeared in a number of films throughout his career, including Superbad, Juno, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. Cera’s breakout role came in 2003 when he began playing the son of Jason Bateman’s Michael Bluth, George-Michael Bluth, on the critically acclaimed hit series Arrested Development. However, it seems as though iconic actor and martial artist Jackie Chan hasn’t seen much of Cera’s work.

Cera, who is starring in the latest film by Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme, was promoting the movie in London recently and, per NME, had an interesting albeit awkward encounter with Chan. Chan was also in London to promote his latest film, Karate Kid: Legends, and he and Cera were both promoting their respective projects in the same building.
