The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

Fears of a future where artificial intelligence overpowers flesh-and-blood humans have always been a paramount tenet of sci-fi storytelling. And when these sentient robots closely resemble human behavior and exterior appearance (as in “Blade Runner” or “AI Artificial Intelligence”), then the conundrum of whether they should be granted human dignity rather than being seen as disposable presents itself. But the closer that such a hypothetical reality feels to our present — with generative AI threatening artistic creation, for example — the less likely it seems we will ever feel compassion for these entities.
French director Jérémie Périn’s cyberpunk mystery “Mars Express” manages to further complicate our sentiments with its dense yet satisfying world-building. A gripping, heady and refreshing 2D animated take on the perils of man and machine coexisting, Périn’s first feature as a director inserts the necessary exposition in a mostly natural manner so we incrementally become aware of how this reality functions.

Like so many cyberpunk movies before it, Jérémie Périn’s ultra-cool and dazzlingly animated “Mars Express” is sustained by the vertigo between the boundlessness of computer technology and the banality of what people do with it. What separates this accomplished French “Ghost in the Shell” homage from its most obvious touchstone — and from several other detective stories in which a police team of people and androids investigate what it means to be human — is the film’s determination to dismantle that dynamic.
Much less nakedly philosophical than anything Mamoru Oshii has ever made, “Mars Express” is nevertheless fascinated by the future that artificial intelligence might choose for itself if it were unshackled from the limits of our mortal imaginations (and from the anxieties that come along with them). Périn is humble enough to only half-guess at an answer, but his steadfast conviction that humans and robots could mutually inhibit the...

X-Men ’97 has had massive success among the Marvel fans. The animated series, which is a revival and continuation of the ’90s X-Men show, has generated immense hype. However, it has also attracted very strong criticism regarding the character of Rogue. The fans did not appreciate how the show pulled off some insane de-sexualization of the curvaceous figure of Rogue.
Rogue in X-Men ’97
Since the first trailer dropped, many fans who found their first love in Rogue in the 90s complained on the internet that her physique was drastically changed in the new animation. In some scenes, Rogue’s butt looked extremely flat. However, the Rogue voice actress, Lenore Zann, seems to have found the perfect way to address the criticism by paying homage to the iconic “America’s Ass.”

This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97."
I'm the precise age to have been introduced to the Marvel Universe by animation and film. Back then in the bygone 2000s, superhero movies never crossed over and the best that us wee fans could hope for was, say, the X-Men playing guest star on "Spider-Man" for an episode or two. I've now evolved into a curmudgeon who thinks superhero cinema could use more individuality and less interconnectivity, but I digress.
All this is to say that "X-Men '97" episode 7, "Bright Eyes," featured the sort of brief guest appearance that would've made 10-year-old me super-excited: Rogue meets Captain America (Josh Keaton). You might recall that Cap appeared back in the original "X-Men" cartoon; the season 5 episode, "Old Soldiers," showed him and Wolverine on a mission together in World War II. We've known for two weeks that Cap would be showing up (thanks to...

X-Men ’97: Captain America Returns ( Photo Credit – Disney+ Hotstar )
Every Marvel fan is currently busy binging on the X-Men ’97 series. The premise of the animated series picks up where the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series ends. The MCU series is created by Beau DeMayo. So far, seven episodes have dropped on Disney+ Hotstar. In the latest episode, ‘Bright Eyes’, the team has brought back Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.
In MCU movies, Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers, is probably dead after Avengers: Endgame. But seeing the Cap return in X-Men ’97 made the Marvel fans happy. However, not everyone is pleased with the way they treated him in the animated series. Fans are unhappy with how the makers showed Steve’s alignment towards the government when he stood against their wrongdoings in movies. It’s a scene between Rogue (voiced by Lenore Zann) and Cap (Josh Keaton) that has got the reactions.

X-Men ‘97 continues its narrative momentum from the emotional sixth episode into its seventh episode. Following the demise of Gambit, the episode primarily focuses on Rogue’s quest to seek justice for her former teammate and love interest’s demise. In the process, viewers get to witness some exciting cameos from fan-favorite MCU characters.

While the cameos do not significantly affect the overall plot of the episode they still serve as a nice nod to the larger universe the X-Men inhibit. Such cameos were also a trademark of the original 90s animated series and the earlier entries in Kevin Feige’s MCU, which later expanded into a grand shared universe. Here is what you need to know about X-Men ‘97 episode 7’s cameos and how they use a trick from Feige’s early MCU playbook.

There’s no doubt that Invincible, the superhero series from the mind of Robert Kirkman, borrows a lot from other beloved franchises in the same genre. The biggest similarity would be how Omni-Man resembles Superman in many ways and how the Guardians of the Globe are another version of the Justice League or the Avengers.
The popularity of the comics and animated series has brought it into the cultural spotlight, with Omni-Man even making an appearance on Fortnite as a playable character. Now, we have a mod that brings another character from the series to a game filled with sticky situations.

Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, was a critical disaster for DC. The film was panned by fans and critics alike, and even Reynolds refused to suit up to play Hal Jordan again.
Unfortunately, the film’s failure was not just limited to the box office. It had far-reaching effects, and one of the victims of the catastrophe was DC’s animated show. Green Lantern: The Animated Series could not evade the chopping block either, and its cancellation was tied to Reynold’s forgettable outing as the superhero.

The popular Amazon Prime animated series Invincible just had its Season 2 Finale. The series, which is a mature-rated deconstruction of the superhero genre, focuses on a young adult hero trying to find a place in a world full of ever-growing threats, including his own family. But during the finale, there was one moment that many fans were hoping to see, but they were rather let down when it wasn’t exactly what they wanted.
In the episode, Invincible was battling the villain Angstrom Levy, who saw the hero through various multiverse portals to try and eliminate him. The issue this story was based on was Issue #33. That issue is notable because we see Invincible get sent to the Marvel Universe and run into Spider-Man and Doc Ock. Sometimes a fandom can get, let’s say, ahead of themselves. A certain rumor will take hold with only the flimsiest evidence to back it up and before you know it, every single character on WandaVision is Mephisto (our bad on that one).
At first glance, that appeared to be the case with the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible. Shortly before Invincible season 2 premiered in late 2023 (and then again in early 2024), fans of the series and the Robert Kirkman comic upon which it is based became convinced that none other than Spider-Man would be appearing in an upcoming episode. And in said fans’ defense, the evidence was actually pretty compelling.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Invincible,” now streaming on Prime Video, plus light spoilers for upcoming storylines in the “Invincible” comic.
Just shy of three years after the Season 1 finale of “Invincible” streamed on Prime Video, the final episode of Season 2 has arrived at long last — and there was just as much bloody, superhero action.
In “I Thought You Were Stronger,” the finale to Season 2 Part 2, Mark/Invincible (Steven Yeun) rushes home after the multiverse-traveling villain Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) kidnaps his mom Debbie (Sandra Oh) and baby alien half-brother Oliver. At first, it seems like the vengeful villain has the upper hand. Every time Mark flies toward him, Angstrom opens up a portal and strands Mark in a different dimension.

Invincible‘s first season finale was a tough act to follow. Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible’s bloody battle with his own father Nolan a.k.a. After Mark got his ass handed to him by Nolan last time around, it’s finally his turn to do some ass-handing himself. Multiverse-hopper Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. After The Flash actor Ezra Miller faced a string of controversies, it seems that Amazon’s Invincible opted to play it safe and replace the actor with voice acting legend Eric Bauza. And it appears, Prime Video executed this change rather subtly, as Miller had previously voiced the character, Mad Scientist Da Sinclair who first appeared in the episode called You Look Kinda Dead in Season 1. However, when Sinclair reappeared in the latest episode of the series, the character was voiced by Bauza. But who is Eric Bauza?

Swinging onto the scene in 2008, The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series offered a fresh take on the web-slinging hero. Aimed at a slightly older audience than previous shows, the series captured the essence of being a teenager juggling school, friends, family, and the ever-present responsibility of being a superhero.

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is unarguably considered one of the most successful shows ever created by Marvel Animation. With a perfectly star-studded cast and a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the series showed the earth’s mightiest superheroes from the comics teaming up to form the Avengers and defeat evil.

Marvel and DC fans have been waiting for someday when finally the worlds of Superman and Iron Man may collide. Although such a crossover sounds far-fetched, it looks like another prominent superhero IP, Invincible may pull off a similar stunt. This is speculated as recently The Spectacular Spider-Man fame Josh Keaton teased his appearance in Invincible Season 2.

Marvel’s What If? Is back for a second series on Disney+ this December – and here’s the trailer to prove it…
What If? was a surprising, fun addition to the Marvel canon when it first landed on Disney+, perhaps because the sheer scale of storytelling possibilities is so huge.
Series one featured scenarios as wide ranging as Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger and T’Challa becoming a Star Lord, to examining what might have happened if artificially-intelligent supervillain Ultron hadn’t been defeated by those pesky Avengers. It doesn’t look like the next run of the show will be pulling its punches either.
Promotion is underway for it now, and we now have a synopsis for the second series. It doesn’t tell us much, but nevertheless reads as follows:

"Things have gotten a little twisted in the Multiverse…" Marvel has revealed the official trailer for Season 2 of the fun spin-off series What If...?, where they present short stories based on crazy "what if" scenarios in the MCU. The first season launched in 2021 to mixed reviews, and this second season will be out to watch in December. One new episode will introduce an original MCU character named Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman who seeks to discover her powers after the Tesseract crash-lands in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy in pre-colonial America. In another episode, Peggy Carter / Captain Carter believes that the love of her life, Steve Rogers, is long-dead until he is discovered alive as the villainous Hydra Stomper. That sounds wild! The voice cast set for Season 2 includes Hayley Atwell, Lake Bell, Josh Keaton, and Jeffrey Wright back as The Watcher, the main character in this taking viewers into the various stories.

And in the spirit of the holiday season, the animated series invites fans to unwrap a new episode every night for nine nights this December. What If…? Season 2 premieres on Friday, December 22, on Disney+, with one episode coming out every night for nine nights. Netflix is getting into the "Pokémon" business in a pretty interesting way. The streaming service has debuted the first trailer for a brand new series entitled "Pokémon Concierge" which marks not only the first collaboration between Netflix and The Pokémon Company, but it's also the first stop-motion animated series in the history of the franchise. See what that looks like for yourself in the trailer above.
The trailer is, in a word, adorable. There is absolutely a version of the Pokémon universe that is a little gritty and horrifying. After all, many of these are very dangerous animals. This is the polar opposite of that version, with all of the many familiar creatures just trying to relax and looking rather cuddly. Surprisingly, we've never seen the series take the stop-motion approach before having now seen it, as it looks very natural. The brief logline for the series reads as follows:...

This article contains Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse spoilers.
There was an audible gasp during my press screening of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. As has become common practice when watching a superhero movie, the entire audience sat glued to their seats throughout the long rolling credits for producer Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s follow-up to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Obviously, we were waiting for a post-credits stinger, as is the genre’s wont ever since Samuel L. Jackson first showed up rocking an eyepatch in Iron Man 15 years ago.
And yet, when the credits finished scrolling, there remained only darkness—and a promise that this story would not end until next year’s now eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. You're trying to figure out what sort of person you'll be, find your place in the world, deal with massive changes in your body and your feelings, and navigate your love life. I don't know how Shinkai manages to take what can feel,...
