Charlie Cox has expressed that he would like to have a new twist The Joker, one that deviates from the precedent that Heath Ledger has set.

We’ve had several actors who have played Batman’s greatest nemesis, Joker, over the years, and while each of them delivered different performances on varying degrees and contributed a lot to the legacy of the famed villain, there’s one Hollywood star with the most comic-accurate features but never portrayed the character on screen: Adrien Brody.

Fans know him best from the award-winning 2002 film The Pianist and BBC’s Peaky Blinders, but he almost joined the league of DC’s Batman rogues gallery in 2008 with The Dark Knight. Evidently, this did not push through, but it would have been intriguing to see how Brody would take on the role.

It's impossible to imagine anyone else playing the Clown Prince of Crime in the Christopher Nolan-helmed movie, especially as Ledger's interpretation of the Clown Prince of Crime has become nothing short of iconic.

Nolan did consider other actors for the role, including The Pianist, King Kong, and The Brutalist star Adrien Brody. Talking to Josh Horowitz, the Oscar winner admitted that while he met with the filmmaker, the role was never his. 

"Oh no, I wasn't close. It was a role that I felt very suited to do," he says in the video below. "Heath did such a remarkable job in that movie. It was indelible.

Adrien Brody is well on his way to potentially win a second Oscar with his recent film The Brutalist. However, what many don’t know is that he once eyed the role that brought Heath Ledger his posthumous Oscar. Adrien Brody appeared in a podcast on January 16th, discussing his eventful career.
