Crockett Island is a tiny, isolated community where residents cling to their faith in God, their reliance on the commercial fishing industry or a combination of the two. This sleepy enclave is where Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan’s latest Netflix series, takes place — and even before the horror shenanigans get started, there’s a lot that’s scary about the place.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. In Episode 1, we’re introduced to Crockett Island via the return of Riley Flynn (played by Friday Night Lights‘ Zach Gilford). Riley grew up there but fled as soon as possible, eventually...

This “Midnight Mass” preview was first published on Sept. 20.
Netflix’s new thriller limited series “Midnight Mass” comes from the mastermind who gave you “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” But just because he dreamed up “The Haunting” franchise doesn’t mean Mike Flanagan’s new show, which launches Friday, is anything like his anthology. In fact, he’s spent a few weeks making sure to correct people on social media who assume “Midnight Mass” is Season 3 of “The Haunting.”
“One of the reasons why we’re very careful to calibrate the expectations properly is that I do feel like people who mistakenly approach this material the same way they would approach ‘Hill House’ or ‘Bly’ are going to be surprised to find it’s so different,” Flanagan told TheWrap in a joint interview with his producing partner Trevor Macy.

Midnight Mass has gotten the Stephen King stamp of approval. On Thursday, Sept. 14, the renowned horror novelist took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Mike Flanagan's latest supernatural series for Netflix, calling it "a dense, beautifully photographed terror tale that climbs to a high pitch of horror by the 7th and last episode." E! News broke this glowing review to the cast of Midnight Mass, who got (the good kind of) chills from King's words. "If you could see my blonde hairy arms, you would see the goosebumps," Kristin Lehman, who plays Annie Flynn, exclusively told E! News. "I'm speechless." Co-star Annabeth Gish, who...

Mike Flanagan has established himself as one of the leading names in horror, while helping Netflix become one the streaming industry’s leaders in the genre thanks to hits such as “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” The director is hoping to strike gold for the popular streaming service once again with the long-awaited “Midnight Mass.” Netflix unveiled the latest trailer for the upcoming supernatural series on Wednesday.
Per Netflix, “Midnight Mass,” which is created and directed by Flanagan, tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community — but do these miracles come at a price?

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Wednesday, September 8.
Charmed Season 4 may not be arriving until 2022, but the series has announced its new witch.
According to TV Line, Lucy Barrett will join the show,, but the creatives are keeping many details under wraps until transmission.
“Her name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie are being kept under wraps, because… well… it’s just more fun that way," said co-showrunners Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco, and Nicki Renna.
"What we will say is she’s an artist with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life’s passion."
"She’s fun, irreverent, impulsive, strong-willed and will bring a brand-new energy to the Power of Three.”
It's nice to know there's an element of mystery surrounding this new character.

After chilling us to our cores with The Haunting of Hill House and shattering our hearts with the The Haunting of Bly Manor finale, Netflix has returned with another horror mystery series that's set out to do both. Directed and executive produced by Hill House creator Mike Flanagan, Midnight Mass explores the supernatural happenings of Crockett Island and its residents who may be more of a danger to each other than the ghosts lurking in the shadows. As a storm brews and dark forces convene on the island, no one is safe. Here's what we know about the seven-episode limited series so far.

Netflix released the official teaser for “Midnight Mass,” the upcoming supernatural horror series from Mike Flanagan.
Starring Zach Gilford, Kate Siegel and Hamish Linklater, the seven-episode series follows an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events and frightening omens after the arrival of a mysterious priest. The show entered production last August and wrapped up in December.
Flanagan — who also created, directed and wrote “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor” — is known for crafting harrowing stories without relying on horror tropes.
In a letter released with the teaser, Flanagan wrote: “I’m just going to admit it… ‘Midnight Mass’ is my favorite project so far. As a former altar boy, about to celebrate 3 years of sobriety, it’s not had to see what makes this so personal. The ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core.”

The Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy will head another Netflix horror series, titled Midnight Mass.
The Haunting of Hill House visionaries Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are already enjoying some success on the global platform of Netflix, with their anthology horror series set to begin production for a second season, under the title, The Haunting of Bly Manor. Syfy has canceled the horror series Ghost Wars after its debut 13-episode season, Deadline has confirmed. The series premiered in October 2017.
Created by Simon Barry, Ghost Wars was an acquisition title for the cable network. Set in a remote Alaskan town that has been overrun by paranormal forces, the series focuses on local outcast Roman Mercer (Avan Jogia) who must overcome the town’s prejudices and his own personal demons if he’s to harness his repressed psychic powers and save everyone from the mass haunting that’s threatening to destroy them all.
Ghost Wars starred Vincent D’Onofrio, Kim Coates, Avan Jogia, Kristin Lehman and Meatloaf. David Von Ancken directed the pilot while Barry helmed two episodes. Other directors included Leslie Hope, Michael Nankin, Mathias Herdndl, and Jason Priestley. Nomadic Pictures’ Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev served as executive producers with Barry, Dennis Heaton and Von Ancken.

“Altered Carbon” has its fair share of issues, but the ending isn’t one of them. Strictly from a narrative standpoint, that’s not always easy to do. Sure, a great ending can stand out from a snoozy middle, but often a poor start leads to a similarly lackluster finale.
Yet Netflix’s big-budget sci-fi series stands out for all the right reasons. The “love conquers all” kicker has real emotion behind it. There are answers aplenty, which is a kindness not often shown by other mystery shows. But most of all, “Altered Carbon’s” ending is a bona fide delight because it does what so many modern shows refuse to do: It ends. Definitively.

Altered Carbon is the latest big-budget series to come from Netflix.
The streaming giant is betting big on the series, and there are rumblings that it has already been renewed for Season 2 even though Season 1 is yet to debut.
The series is set in a world in which bodies are mere vessels and consciousness can be digitized and transplanted into a brand new body.
It is rather scary to think about, and it's difficult for us to explain, so thankfully, Netflix today released a brand new featurette that includes interviews with the cast and crew.
They explain, in detail, about what goes into transporting consciousness from one vessel to another.
The official logline for the series describes Altered Carbon as “ an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are...
