Coach Beard is getting married! On June 29, "Ted Lasso" actor Brendan Hunt announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Shannon Nelson, in a post on Instagram. According to his caption, Hunt captured the exact moment Nelson, who also appeared in one episode of "Ted Lasso" as Ms. Ledbetter, said yes. The blurry photo features a closeup of a smiling Nelson showing off her ring. "The majestic @snoopshann, so rarely photographed in her natural habitat, captured here in the act of saying 'yes," Hunt wrote.
Nelson shared her excitement on her own Instagram. In addition to sharing the same photo Hunt shared, she also posted a close-up snap of herself with her new fiancé. "We are a family," she wrote. "A beautiful wonderful family and will be for always. Some folks have assumed we had already done this, but truth be told we had other priorities in becoming a family. Now it feels right.

When “Drop Dead Gorgeous” was released in 1999, Variety’s review was less than glowing: “Taking bazooka aim at a barn-door-wide target — hinterland beauty contests — [the film] is a fitfully amusing satire that would have gained a lot of mileage from just a tad more subtlety.”
Perhaps. But then the movie gained a massive gay following over the past 20 years precisely because of over-the-top performances from a cast that included Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janney and the late Brittany Murphy.
“Right from the very beginning, walking into meetings as a very young man, I told them that this was a movie for people who are outsiders and don’t feel like they’re represented by regular movies,” director Michael Patrick Jann told Variety at a special screening of the film on Saturday night in Hollywood. “It’s an anti-mainstream movie and they still bought it for some reason.”

The world of web series is home to a slew of appealingly offbeat characters: fierce elfish heroines, washed-up superheroes, thoroughly modern Lizzie Bennets. For the actors who bring these vibrant personas to life, the diverse content and Diy nature of the web offer the chance to gain experience and exposure that's not always readily available in legacy mediums. Here are five talented thespians making their mark on the smallest of screens.Shannon Nelson, "Alice & the Monster"In mainstream TV and commercials, Shannon Nelson has played lots of funny sidekicks, kooky best friends, and "sweet though perhaps slightly disturbed young nuns." On the Internet, the self-described character actor is a bona fide leading lady: She stars in and produces the web series "Alice & the Monster," a romantic dramedy about a young woman whose life is upended when she's diagnosed with a brain tumor. Online video and web series news worth clicking today… Workshop the series debuts Season 2 today on Hulu after inking a distribution deal with the network earlier this spring. Creator Nate Golon is calling it the first half-hour web comedy to premiere on the site, and looking back over our records, he may be right. “As an added bonus, we’ve also posted episode 2, since people were patient enough to wait an extra week,” said Golon on the launch. That means you’ll need to earmark about 44 minutes for this comedic look inside the world of struggling La actors. 20 minutes in, we’d have to say it’s worth it. Six episodes total are due out this season, adding up to a whopping 132 minutes of comedy. [Workshop on Hulu] ElfQuest came to life last night with the SAG screening and release of the “fan imagined” trailer for a would-be series based on the popular comic book series.

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.
This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

Gold, the new RPG gamer-themed web series premieres today, offering a comical tribute to "the geekily wonderful world of traditional, pen-and-paper style role playing gaming." Not everyone could imagine spending their bachelor party rolling their multi-sided dice and casting spells, but for Gold lead character, Jonathan Drake (David Nett), that's exactly where he'd want to be: living the life of a Professional Tabletop Role Playing Gamer. The only problem is, his fiancée would rather have him focused on the wedding while his gaming team want him focused on the game. These are the stakes in the first episode (above) "Dark Clouds Gather" created by indie producers Nett, Andrew R. Deutsch, Shannon Nelson and Chad Schnaible under the production banners Brown Corduroy Jacket, and Punisher77. The show focuses on the journey of an American "Goblins and Gold" team as they attempt to win gold in the World G&G Championship, defeating...
