Exclusive: Writer-director Jamal Dedeaux (Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks) has rounded out the cast for his indie dark comedy The Late Night Creep, starring Single Parents alum Jake Choi. Newcomers include Tosin Morohunfola (Run the World), Jason Mitchell (Mudbound), Karen Obilom (The Mill), Lori Laing (That Damn Michael Che), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle & Flow), Lewis Belt (House Party), Leslie Jones (SNL) and Bradley Nnadi (I Wanna Dance with Somebody).

Details as to the roles these actors will play haven’t been disclosed.

The film tells the story of an unhappily married man (Choi) who sneaks out of the house to go on a date with his college crush and ends up having the night from hell. Dedeaux is producing the pic alongside Rebecca Haze and Kris Simms. Kim Williams handled casting.

Executive producer Ralph Farquhar reveals previous plans for a live-action version of The Proud Family. The Disney Channel animated series, following the adventures of Penny Proud, aired from 2001-2005 and originally concluded with the release of The Proud Family Movie. A success at the time, many praised the show for its representation as well as its humor and exploration of early teenage years. A revival titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered on Disney+ in 2022. It features the return of original voice actors Kyla Pratt, Karen Malina White, Jo Marie Payton, Paula Jai Parker, Tommy Davidson, and more.

Prior to the release of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a potential reboot seemed a possibility considering the original only consisted of two seasons. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Farquhar revealed that he and creator Bruce W. Smith made pitches to continue the show, which included a live-action version.

A revival of the original animated series, which first aired on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2005, “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” premiered in February, and follows the adventures of Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt), an ordinary 14-year old girl navigating school and her dysfunctional family. The news of the renewal comes ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale, which is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday.

Along with the news of the renewal, Disney also announced that Season 2 of “Louder and Prouder” is already in production. Disney+’s The Proud Family revival has added a trio of actors to its cast with Billy Porter, Zachary Quinto and Ej Johnson set to play new characters.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will pick up the story of its central character Penny Proud and also include her madcap family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and her grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Penny’s loyal crew Dijonay Jones, Lacienega Boulevardez and Zoey Howzer will also return for the series.

The newly-added trio will join original cast members Kyla Pratt, Tommy Davidson, Paula Jai Parker, JoMarie Payton, Cedric the Entertainer, Carlos Mencia, Maria Canals-Barrera, Alvaro Gutierrez, Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye and Alisa Reyes.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which is currently in production for a 2022 launch on Disney+, is executive-produced by Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, both of whom led the original series.

“The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” at Disney Plus expanded its cast with the addition of Billy Porter, Zachary Quinto and Ej Johnson.

The role will be a pivot for Johnson, who has cemented himself in the world of reality and unscripted television on shows like “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills,” “Red Table Talk” and “Steve Harvey.” Porter is perhaps best known for his award-winning performance as Pray Tell on FX’s “Pose,” but is no stranger to voice work and has lent his talents to “The Simpsons” and served as narrator for HBO Max docuseries “Equal.” Quinto is no stranger to animation either, having appeared on Amazon’s “Invincible” and Netflix’s “Big Mouth.”

Queen Sugar is currently airing its fifth season on OWN, but work has already begun on season six. Paula Jai Parker, Tammy Townsend, Marquis Rodriguez, and McKinley Freeman have joined the cast of the series which follows the Bordelon siblings in the fictional Louisiana town of Saint Josephine.

The series makes a point of hiring female directors and those working on the sixth season include Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, Carmen Marrón, Cierra Glaude, Keisha Rae Witherspoon, Marie Jamora, Shari Carpenter, Shaz Bennett, and Stephanie Turner, with Lisa France now serving as producing director. Across the six seasons, 42 female filmmakers have been hired, 39 of whom are first-time television directors.

Apple TV+ is gifting Mythic Quest fans with a bonus standalone episode from Season 1, ahead of the show’s Season 2 return on Friday, May 7.

Premiering Friday, April 16, the special installment, titled “Everlight,” “finds the team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all time returning to the office for their annual Everlight party, with Poppy and Ian rigging a Larp (Live Action Role-Play) tournament in an underdog’s favor,” per the official synopsis. Palmer will play the role of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, a 14-year-old activist who relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum.

Yesterday, the cast and executive producers of the popular animated series of almost two decades ago took part in a virtual reunion during the NAACP’s Arts, Culture & Entertainment Festival. Hustlers and Scream Queens star Palmer moderated and announced that she would be joining the cast.

Disney+ has given the formal greenlight to “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” a revival of the animated Disney Channel series that ran for two seasons between 2001 and 2005.

The original voice cast has been confirmed to return, including Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as Lacienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer will also return as Uncle Bobby Proud.

The new episodes are currently in production, with series creator Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar, who led the original series, back at the helm. Calvin Brown, Jr. also returns as co-executive producer and story editor.

Disney+ is bringing back an old favorite. The streamer officially has greenlighted The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which returns the original cast and executive producers from The Proud Family, which aired on Disney Channel in the 2000s.
