Tobe Hooper forever changed the face of horror in 1974 with his film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It featured mixed reviews with Roger Ebert calling it a “weird, off-the-wall horror movie that’s really scary.” While The New York Times called it “despicable” and “a vile little piece of sick crap.” Whether you loved it or hated it, one thing was for sure: after watching it, you would never forget it!
In 2003, as the original horror film approached its 30th anniversary, producers Michael Bay and Mike Fleiss decided it was time to remake the film for a new generation. Now it’s hard to believe this remake is now over 20 years old, so it’s time for a UltraHD release thanks to Arrow Video.

A horror movie from 17 years ago, The Ruins, has found a new streaming home, and it will give fans another chance to see why this film was so scary. The Ruins is the feature directorial debut of Carter Smith, based on the novel and screenplay by Scott B. Smith. It follows two couples who visit a remote Mayan ruin in Mexico, only to learn to their horror that it is inhabited by a man-eating vine growth, which then targets them. With native villagers not allowing them to leave, these couples have to fight for their survival.
The acting talent included mostly fresh faces for 2008, with Jena Malone, Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, and The Rookie's Shawn Ashmore playing the two couples and Joe Anderson playing Mathias, a man looking for his missing brother. This horror film was a box office disappointment when it came out, not making back its budget,...

The Harlan Coben takeover isn't anywhere near over yet, as the best-selling author looks to make history with his latest television show. While Coben has a number adaptations coming to Netflix that are in the works, his latest series that was just announced isn't coming to the streamer, and it's marking a first for the prolific author turned television mastermind.
On May 7, CBS announced its fall lineup for the 2025-2026 television season, and Harlan Coben fans had quite the surprise. Harlan Coben's Final Twist was included on the broadcast network's schedule for the midseason lineup. Some might have assumed it's a brand-new mystery thriller that's headed to traditional TV rather than Netflix, but it's Coben's first foray into true crime and the first time he's putting himself in the spotlight instead of just his stories.

Harlan Coben adaptations have taken over Netflix. In 2025 alone, the streamer has rolled out three new thriller series: Missing You, Just One Look and Caught. Coming up next is the television series adaptation of Coben's 2023 bestselling novel I Will Find You, and so much anticipation is already building.
The mystery thriller was first announced to be in the works back in November 2024. Its greenlighting wasn’t unexpected, as Coben has an ongoing partnership with Netflix, where his novels are to be adapted into English-language and foreign-language series or films. The streaming giant decided to hand out an eight-episode order for I Will Find You, with Robert Hull as the showrunner and writer. You might recognize Hull from his past writing credits on shows such as Gossip Girl, Once Upon a Time, Gotham, Pennyworth and Monarch. The best Jaime Pressly movies and TV shows contain an interesting mix of genres but she always stands out when she gets her chance to shine. Presley started her career as a teenager when she got involved in modeling while also training as a gymnast. By the time she was 15, she dropped out of high school and moved to Japan to further her modeling career. This led to her first TV appearance, where she had an uncredited role on Baywatch, which then led to her first major breakout.
In 1997, the 20-year-old Presley was cast as the lead in Poison Ivy: The New Seduction, the third movie in the franchise that starred Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano before her. A mark of an unforgettable horror movie is either its impeccable quality, or its historic infamy. A horror movie could be immortalized as a genre classic either because it's a highly influential trendsetter, or because it's one of the worst things ever made. Horror movies that are just good, on the other hand, tend to be forgotten.
That's not to say that these particular horror movies were never good to begin with. On a rewatch, these horror movies could be seen as underrated or even great. The problem was that they either came out at the wrong time, or were brought down by circumstances beyond their control. It's only in hindsight when horror fans either realize that they were wrong to dismiss these movies when they first came out, or they only learned of them now.

Kirsten Dunst partied like it’s 1999 as she crashed a sleepover this weekend for a double feature of two of her most beloved movies.
The Academy Award nominee surprised fans as she appeared at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Saturday for Cinespia‘s ‘Kirsten Dunst Slumber Party’, celebrating the 25th anniversaries of Bring It On and The Virgin Suicides.
“I’m T-t-Torrance, your captain Torrance,” she told the crowd, quoting her Bring It On intro. “Let’s go, Toros!

She went on to thank Cinespia and founder John Wyatt before introducing the first film.

It’s always fun to discuss horror novels that Aren’T Stephen King. No knock on the monster from Maine, he’s the master of horror novels over the last, oh I don’t know, 50 years, for a reason but its nice to not have the show be solely dedicated to his adapted works. He says knowing that he makes the schedule and decides what books to cover. See you in May, Mr. King! Funnily enough, the man actually loved today’s subject to the degree that he called it one of 2006’s best horror novels, but more on that in a little bit. The Ruins (watch it Here) was one of those hot properties by an author whose previous work was an instant success with critics, fans, and studio executives that put it to celluloid. The invitation read “dress code: Fashion,” and guests at the second annual Fashion Trust U.S. Awards didn’t disappoint – with Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jessica Biel, Andra Day, Awkwafina, Heidi Klum, Janelle Monaé and Kelsea Ballerini showing up in head-turning looks.

Forgotten TV shows deserve a second chance as they offer well-developed characters and compelling narratives that may have been underappreciated in the past. Rebooting or reviving these shows can provide insights into diverse television content and offer fresher perspectives and plots compared to popular series in the streaming age. The cancellation of some hit shows, like The Black Donnellys and FlashForward, was unjustified as they had potential for continuing the storylines or exploring unanswered questions, and they deserve another chance to captivate audiences.
Audiences in search of quality content should look to forgotten TV shows that deserve another chance. Indeed, shows that have been buried under the deluge of new content aren't necessarily forgettable. A variety of factors play a significant role in the fate of TV series, and many great shows that have been memory-holed deserve a second look from audiences and studios alike.

Horror movies have provided moviegoers with some of their favorite films since Hollywood began. Dating all the way back to the classic days of Universal Studios' horror, these films follow various scary threats, from ghosts and zombies to masked killers and demons. Halloween is a great time to discover and enjoy some of Hollywood's most underrated horror stories, especially for fans who love a good scare.
Horror comes in all forms, from psychological fears to gore-fest slashers, but it's increasingly easy for great films to get overlooked by audiences. Some films suffer from a low budget, difficult competition or simple obscurity, with fans being left to find such movies on their own. Some of these can become a horror buff's favorite new movie, and they all make for great popcorn flicks for the scariest holiday.

Since the earliest days of cinema, the horror genre has been a beloved source of entertainment, especially sub-genres like slashers. Some of the greatest horror films opt for a condensed timeline, with many taking place across a single day, some almost told in real time. This allows viewers to better identity with the characters in their tense encounters with killers and monsters, almost making it seem real.
Horror movies' use of condensed time as compared with other genres is vital in establishing the intense and urgent tone of their stories. This allows for the fear of the story to grow, and places viewers in a time frame that can feel more surreal and heighten their fear. All horror movies have strength in different pacing, but the tighter the story the scarier it can be for audiences to watch.

Remakes were all the rage in the 2000s. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Black Christmas, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax, The Crazies, My Bloody Valentine, The Hills Have Eyes – and the list goes on and on. And then there’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
A Platinum Dunes creation, the 2003 remake did what most remakes fail to do: honor the original while doing something wildly unique and equally as cool. Director Marcus Nispel, also behind the Friday the 13th remake, carves out a special place in the pantheon of horror by trusting his instincts and letting the cast play (and scream along the way). 20 years later, the bright spot in the sea of mediocre remakes still operates on all cylinders, and in many respects, outpaces the 1974 original.

Many of the actors in 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have gone on to have successful careers in both film and television. Jessica Biel's role in the film helped showcase her range as an actress and led to future projects in various genres. The cast of the film, including Jonathan Tucker, Erica Leerhsen, Mike Vogel, and Eric Balfour, have all continued to work in the industry and take on diverse roles in different projects.
Although 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a remake of the original 1974 horror film, the movie and its cast were still imperative to the franchise as a whole, and as a result, the actors involved have gone on to enjoy impressive careers. While we have had horror remakes over the years, the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre truly ushered in a new era of the modern horror reboot that didn't seem like it was going to stop until every major horror title, both mainstream and not, were given a fresh sheen for a new generation of fans. Since so many horror remakes came after Leatherface's return to the big screen, it might be hard to remember how good the 2003 take actually is. By paying homage to the Tobe Hooper classic and carving its own path, the 2003 redo is arguably the best horror reboot of the modern era, as it did spark a slew of imitators that tried to duplicate its success.

Having publicly hoped earlier this year that Danny Masterson would be found “innocent” of rape charges in his retrial, Ashton Kutcher also sought to convince the judge in his That 70s Show co-star’s case of what a great guy the defendant is.
“Not only is he a good friend to me I’ve witnessed him be a good friend to others and the kind of brother others would be lucky to have,” Kutcher wrote Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo late last month as Masterson awaited sentencing on being found guilty of two counts of rape this spring. “As a role model, Danny has consistently been an excellent one. I attribute not falling into the typical Hollywood life of drugs directly to Danny,” Kutcher said as one of many high profile names like Mila Kunis advocating on Masterson’s behalf.
On September 7, 47-year-old Masterson was sentenced to 30 years behind bars by Judge Olmedo.

Debris season 2 was canceled by NBC due to low ratings. The show failed to connect with viewers and lacked a reason for audiences to care about the characters and their journey. Debris is not the first sci-fi show to suffer from this issue. High-concept shows that rely on mystery boxes and procedural structures often struggle to keep audiences engaged. Despite its potential, it's actually a good thing that Debris was canceled. The cancelation sends a message to sci-fi creators to focus on well-grounded characters and compelling storytelling.
NBC canceled the Debris TV show after just one season, and there are a few reasons why Debris season 2 never happened. The high-concept show originally seemed promising: an X-Files-like dynamic of two agents traveling around the country and investigating mysterious anomalies, which were caused by the debris from an alien spaceship that crashed into Earth, scattering the pieces all over. A transcendent chamber piece, Aleem Khan’s feature-length directorial debut is graced with an exceptional lead performance from Joanna Scanlan as an English woman who converted to Islam for marriage years ago — only to discover, when her husband dies, that he was living a shocking double life. It’s a miraculous study of grief, jealousy and ultimately compassion, all executed with very little dialogue. — Leslie Felperin
Are You There God? It’S Me, Margaret
Kelly Fremon Craig’s adaptation of the classic Judy Blume novel about a girl on the cusp of puberty is charming, heartwarming, and beautifully acted and scored. Plot: When vice detective Bob Hightower finds his ex-wife murdered and daughter kidnapped by a satanic cult – Bob sets out to find his daughter, by any means necessary.
Review: Any film that deals with the endangerment of children is going to be a tough watch. I don’t even have children and yet this film hit me hard in ways I wasn’t expecting. A satanic cult kidnapping a little girl to do awful things just turns my stomach even typing it out. And as such, there are going to be a lot of people that can’t handle God is a Bullet. And I can’t blame them. It’s tough subject matter that will leave you thinking about it for days after the credits roll. But that’s not to say that the film is without its flaws.

Writer/Director Nick Cassavetes channels the same grit of Alpha Dog for his latest, God Is a Bullet, adapted from Boston Teran‘s based-on-true-events best-selling novel. Only this time, the filmmaker doubles down on the bone-shattering violence… and the runtime. God Is a Bullet uses the sleazy criminal world, a talented pair of leads, and visceral violence to offset a straightforward narrative.

Adapted from the author’s 1999 debut novel, “God Is A Bullet” is the first screen translation of a work by one Boston Teran, a prolific but pseudononymous scribe of popular page-turners. Those tomes have been well-received by thriller fans, though others have speculated they might be a genre put-on penned by possibly more than one well-known literary figure. Nick Cassavetes’ slick adaptation certainly maintains the book’s mix of lurid incident and pontificating pretentiousness — albeit without the kind of intensity that might have made this far-fetched story credible, or the atmospheric style that might’ve pulled it off as a fevered nightmare à la David Lynch instead.
These 156 minutes, with cop Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and escaped captive Maika Monroe pursuing the cult of devil-worshipping scumbags who’ve kidnapped his daughter, are not exactly dull. But they are rather ludicrous, without being much fun. It’s hard not to imagine this overlong,...

Films about violent cults always have the same vibe as serial killer movies because they make sure to offer an excess of gore, thrills, and action. While there have been plenty of cult thrillers this year, such as Hypnotic and Hulu's The Clearing, the upcoming God Is A Bullet brings something new to the table: a father's desperate struggle to save his abducted daughter and exact vengeance on his murdered ex-wife.

"Let's send Cyrus a message!" XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for a gritty crime thriller titled God is a Bullet, the latest from actor / director Nick Cassavetes. It's set to open in theaters exclusively starting in June. When vice detective Bob finds his ex-wife murdered and daughter kidnapped by a satanic cult - he's frustrated by bumbling botched investigations. Bob quits the police force, gets tattoos, and infiltrates the cult to hunt down the charismatic cult leader, Cyrus, with the help of the cult's only female victim escapee, the brilliantly damaged, Case Hardin. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maika Monroe, Jamie Foxx, January Jones, Ethan Suplee, Paul Johansson, and Jonathan Tucker. Cassavetes: "I've been trying to tell this great story for the last 18+ years. It's tough, violent, has two flawed and fantastic characters, and absolutely pulls no punches. I love it! There's nothing else out there like it, not even close!

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (“Game of Thrones,” Mama) and an almost unrecognizable Maika Monroe (It Follows, Watcher) take on a bloodthirsty, Satanic cult in God is a Bullet, a revenge thriller based on the best-selling novel by Boston Teran.

“Palm Trees and Power Lines,” the story of a teenage girl who is groomed by a man twice her age, received nearly universal acclaim when it debuted at Sundance in 2022, going on to win an award for Jamie Dack’s direction.

She can’t relate to her teenage friends, who seem in thrall to emotionally stunted neighborhood boys their own age, laughing at their puerile jokes and observations,...
