Tobe Hooper forever changed the face of horror in 1974 with his film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It featured mixed reviews with Roger Ebert calling it a “weird, off-the-wall horror movie that’s really scary.” While The New York Times called it “despicable” and “a vile little piece of sick crap.” Whether you loved it or hated it, one thing was for sure: after watching it, you would never forget it!

In 2003, as the original horror film approached its 30th anniversary, producers Michael Bay and Mike Fleiss decided it was time to remake the film for a new generation. Now it’s hard to believe this remake is now over 20 years old, so it’s time for a UltraHD release thanks to Arrow Video.

The 21st HollyShorts Film Festival will recognize several prominent industry figures when it takes place in Hollywood from Aug. 7-17, including director Jared Hess, actor-director David Oyelowo and actor Katherine McNamara.

Hess will be presented with the Visionary Award, recognizing his directorial achievements across projects ranging from the indie hit “Napoleon Dynamite” to the recent Warner Bros. blockbuster “A Minecraft Movie” with Jason Momoa and Jack Black. His animated short “Ninety-Five Senses” screened at HollyShorts in 2021 and received an Oscar nomination.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be honored with this special award. HollyShorts is a festival I’ve always admired for its dedication to new and innovative storytellers. I’m very humbled to be recognized by this wonderful community,” Hess said.

It follows two couples who visit a remote Mayan ruin in Mexico, only to learn to their horror that it is inhabited by a man-eating vine growth, which then targets them. With native villagers not allowing them to leave, these couples have to fight for their survival.

Exclusive: Actress Kiele Sanchez (Kingdom) has signed with Strand Entertainment for management.

Sanchez last starred as Lisa Prince, the matriarch of the Navy St. family, on DirecTV’s boxing drama, Kingdom, which ran for three seasons. The series, from creator Byron Balasc, also starred Frank Grillo, Jonathan Tucker, and Nick Jonas.

Previously, Sanchez starred for four seasons as Callie Cargill on A&e’s crime series, The Glades. Additional TV credits include recurring roles on Criminal Minds: Evolution and Station 19, along with roles on Lost, The CW’s Related, and Samantha Who.

After the recent announcement that Severance star Britt Lower would lead the cast for a new Netflix prison break series, the rising star has lined up yet another project, this time teaming with legendary actress Jamie Lee Curtis on a new horror film.

Per Deadline, Lower is set to lead the cast of Sender, a psychological horror film from Russell Goldman, who makes his feature directorial debut with the movie. The horror flick is based on Goldman's 2022 short film Return to Sender. Lower will star alongside David Dastmalchian, Anna Baryshnikov, and Curtis. Per the official logline, Sender follows "a woman (Lower) who experiences an e-commerce package delivery scam that becomes so personal and disturbing that she becomes hellbent on discovering the identity of her anonymous sender."

In addition to starring in the film, Curtis serves as a producer alongside Molly Hallam and Jake Katofsky, while Lower is an executive producer.

Harlan Coben adaptations have taken over Netflix. In 2025 alone, the streamer has rolled out three new thriller series: Missing You, Just One Look and Caught. Coming up next is the television series adaptation of Coben's 2023 bestselling novel I Will Find You, and so much anticipation is already building.

The mystery thriller was first announced to be in the works back in November 2024. In a pivotal role in the limited series based on Harlan Coben’s bestselling 2023 novel of the same name, the Echoes alum will portray Police Sergeant Adam Mackenzie. The character is the closest friend of lead Sam Worthington’s David Burroughs, an innocent man behind bars for life for the murder of his son. When David finds out his child may actually be alive, he decides to bust out of prison. Tucker’s Mackenzie is right there to help his pal in any way he can, for better or worse.

A mark of an unforgettable horror movie is either its impeccable quality, or its historic infamy. A horror movie could be immortalized as a genre classic either because it's a highly influential trendsetter, or because it's one of the worst things ever made. Horror movies that are just good, on the other hand, tend to be forgotten.

That's not to say that these particular horror movies were never good to begin with. On a rewatch, these horror movies could be seen as underrated or even great. The problem was that they either came out at the wrong time, or were brought down by circumstances beyond their control. The Academy Award nominee surprised fans as she appeared at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Saturday for Cinespia‘s ‘Kirsten Dunst Slumber Party’, celebrating the 25th anniversaries of Bring It On and The Virgin Suicides.

“I’m T-t-Torrance, your captain Torrance,” she told the crowd, quoting her Bring It On intro. “Let’s go, Toros!

Jonathan Tucker, who played Mma fighter Alvey Kulina on DirecTV’s Kingdom, found himself in a real-life extreme situation this past Sunday when he observed a man roaming his Hancock Park neighborhood banging on doors and muttering to himself.

After calling police, Tucker went outside and, seeing his neighbor’s front door wide open went in to investigate. There he found a frightened little girl, whom he spirited to safety, before going back into help her mother “terrified, frantic” and an infant, whom he also helped to safety.

When the police arrived, they entered the home and soon located the man. He was reportedly taken into custody and placed on a psychiatric hold.

Review: Any film that deals with the endangerment of children is going to be a tough watch. I don’t even have children and yet this film hit me hard in ways I wasn’t expecting. A satanic cult kidnapping a little girl to do awful things just turns my stomach even typing it out. And as such, there are going to be a lot of people that can’t handle God is a Bullet. And I can’t blame them. It’s tough subject matter that will leave you thinking about it for days after the credits roll. But that’s not to say that the film is without its flaws.

Adapted from the author’s 1999 debut novel, “God Is A Bullet” is the first screen translation of a work by one Boston Teran, a prolific but pseudononymous scribe of popular page-turners. Those tomes have been well-received by thriller fans, though others have speculated they might be a genre put-on penned by possibly more than one well-known literary figure. Nick Cassavetes’ slick adaptation certainly maintains the book’s mix of lurid incident and pontificating pretentiousness — albeit without the kind of intensity that might have made this far-fetched story credible, or the atmospheric style that might’ve pulled it off as a fevered nightmare à la David Lynch instead.

It's been teased that Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) could die in the upcoming revival Justified: City Primeval, and here are some other big theories about the lawman's return. Originally based on the Elmore Leonard short story "Fire in the Hole", Justified ran for six seasons between 2010 and 2015. The revival series, subtitled City Primeval will also adapt an Elmore Leonard story, but the original novel of the same name didn't feature the character of Raylan Givens. Inspired by actual events and based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Boston Teran, the film follows a detective (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) on the hunt for his missing daughter. Following the murder of his ex-wife and his daughter's kidnapping, detective Bob Hightower looks to infiltrate a Satanic cult to save his daughter. The detective links up with a cult escapee, portrayed by a tattooed Maika Monroe, who attempts to aid him in his efforts. The action-packed trailer, which you can watch below, teases a savage ride.

With a slight spoiler alert, the trailer reveals that Detective Hightower does eventually find his daughter alive, who asks her father to "kill them, kill all of them." Complete chaos ensues with weapons, explosions, and a screaming, maniacal cult leader.

The coming-of-age drama, based on Dack’s 2018 short film of the same name, tells the story of Lea (Lily McInerny), a disconnected teenage girl who enters a relationship with a man twice her age. She sees Tom (Jonathan Tucker) as the solution to all her problems, but his intentions are not what they seem.

Dack co-wrote, directed and produced the pic, which was most recently nominated for Best First Screenplay and Best First Feature at the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards, also respectively landing McInerny and Tucker noms for Best Breakthrough Performance and Supporting Performance.

“Palm Trees and Power Lines,” the story of a teenage girl who is groomed by a man twice her age, received nearly universal acclaim when it debuted at Sundance in 2022, going on to win an award for Jamie Dack’s direction.

And yet, despite all the good reviews and honors, it took months for the film to find a distributor. The reason, Dack says, is many film companies didn’t want to touch a movie that tackles such a controversial subject.

“People were scared,” says Dack. “There were many companies that wanted to take meetings with me and that told me they wanted to work with me on my next project. They were blunt. They said, ‘we love this film, but we just can’t distribute it.'”

The 38th Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted by Hasan Minhaj, took place on Saturday, live from the beach in Santa Monica, California. The annual awards ceremony was live-streamed on IMDb’s YouTube page, plus additional social platforms, including Film Independent’s YouTube channel.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” led this year’s nominations with a total of eight and swept up seven awards. Following close behind was Cate Blanchett’s “Tár” with seven nods and “Aftersun” with five. Meanwhile, “The Bear” topped the television categories.
