Emma Kenney previews her arrival on Happy's Place, where she will play Gracie, the daughter of Reba McEntire’s Bobbie. Created by Julie and Kevin Abbott, the latest NBC sitcom follows Bobbie’s unexpected partnership with her younger half-sister Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) as they co-manage a bar in Knoxville, Tennessee, given to both of them by their late father. Gracie, a military member returning home on leave, is set to shake up the already tenuous balance of relationships within the titular bar and family.
In an interview with TVLine, Kenney opened up about Gracie’s arrival, teasing potential conflicts between her character and Isabella. Kenney described Gracie as “strong-willed like her mother" and a "no-nonsense, somewhat tough" young woman, a dynamic that could open up some emotional and comedic possibilities for the series as Gracie meets her new aunt Isabella, who is also occupying Gracie's childhood bedroom. The new Reba McEntire sitcom has gotten a full-season order. The well-rounded performer began her career as a country music artist in the mid-1970s, earning 25 No. 1 singles over the course of her career, including "Can't Even Get the Blues," "How Blue," "Little Rock," and "The Last One to Know." NBC has handed a Back 5 order to Happy’s Place, picking up five additional episodes of the Reba McEntire multi-camera comedy for an 18-episode total, considered a full-season order by today’s network standards.

At the same time, NBC also commissioned five additional scripts of Happy’s Place’s Friday companion, fellow sitcom Lopez vs.Lopez. There has been no Back episodic order for that show yet.

NBC says the Oct. 18 series debut has hit 14 million viewers across all platforms.

Was Happy’s Place originally supposed to be a Reba reboot and what happened to the initial plan? Fans have long wanted the Og cast completely back together but that has only happened via social media. So, how did the reboot spin into another series? Keep reading for all of the details.
Happy’s Place Originally Reba Reboot?
The Reba cast is still very close and they are not shy about how they created a family in the six seasons they were on air. In 2023, the cast got together to cheer on Reba McEntire when she performed at the Hollywood Bowl. Those who celebrated the “single mom who worked two jobs” were Steve Howey, Melissa Peterman, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, and Christopher Rich.

This was essentially Reba’s whole television family minus Mitch Holleman (Jake) and Scarlett Pomers (Kyra). While watching the fiery redhead belt out her hits, they were asked about a revival.

Country music superstar Rebe McEntire has returned to the small screen in NBC's sitcom, Happy's Place, but will the workplace comedy score a season 2 renewal? Created by Julie and Kevin Abbott, Happy's Place concerns Bobbie (McEntire), a woman who inherits her father's bar after his death, and must co-manage the business with her much younger half-sister, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo). Putting the singer/songwriter's powerful personality at the forefront, Happy's Place aims to recreate the success of the six-season sitcom classic, Reba, including casting McEntire's beloved former co-star Melissa Peterman.

Reba McEntire returns to network TV with Happy's Place, and she's bringing along one of her former Reba castmates, whose new character has one glaring issue. The NBC sitcom, created by Kevin Abbott, features McEntire (who is also an executive producer) as Bobbie, the new owner of Happy's Place. Just over 15 years after “Reba” closed out its six-season run, “Happy’s Place” creator Kevin Abbott reunited with the sitcom’s team to explore a potential “Reba” reboot series.
“I had actually come up with where the characters were at, where their lives were at [and] what was going to be the dynamic was some new characters,” Abbott told TheWrap, noting that executives were initially “very interested” in the idea. However, he added that as time went by and the industry consolidated further, the reboot didn’t move forward “for various financial reasons and rights reasons,” per Abbott.

‘Happy’s Place’ Review: The Great Reba McEntire Deserves So Much Better Than This Generic NBC Sitcom
I’m not even a particularly huge Reba McEntire fan, but I know that we don’t deserve Reba McEntire. We, as a society, have not done anything to be worthy of somebody who was one of the all-time great country singers, then became one of the all-time great sitcom actors, then dabbled in being an all-time great award show host and reality show panelist. In her free time, I can only assume that Reba McEntire bowls regular 300 games, prepares a perfect Beef Wellington and has constructed an entirely Nazi-free social media site composed exclusively of substantive conversations and sparkling personalities.
So when I say that Reba McEntire’s new NBC series Happy’s Place is not worthy of Reba McEntire’s talents … well … get in line, Happy’s Place.
Let’s change the unreasonable parameters, then.
As bar-set NBC sitcoms go, Happy’s Place is no Cheers, in the two episodes sent to critics.

More than 20 years after the debut of her hit series “Reba,” Reba McEntire has reunited with executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis as well as co-star Melissa Peterman for a new multi-cam NBC sitcom “Happy’s Place.” Though this new show is unrelated to the beloved WB series, which aired for six seasons, it has the heart, fun and familiarity that made the early 2000s series such a delight. Though critics only received two episodes in advance, thus far, “Happy’s Place” is nostalgic, funny and heartfelt. In addition to an eclectic cast of characters and McEntire’s signature edge woven throughout the comedy, the Tennessee-set sitcom feels like a universal crowdpleaser about family, friendship and generational divisions while paying homage to past TV shows’ rhythmic beats and tone.

But NBC and CBS are partying like it’s 1994 this fall and rolling out a pair of old-fashioned situation comedies that would’ve fit right in on a primetime schedule three decades ago: NBC’s Happy’s Place (premiering Friday at 8/7c), starring Reba McEntire; and CBS’ Poppa’s House (premiering Monday at 8:30 pm), pairing up Damon Wayans with his son Damon Wayans Jr. Both shows feature seasoned sitcom veterans cracking jokes in multi-cam yukfests… but unfortunately, both seem to be sorely lacking in the laughs department.

Before she can recover from that, Reba learns her daughter Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia) is pregnant by her dimwitted jock boyfriend Van (Steve Howey). It has been announced that Reba McEntire will reunite with Steve Howey on her new sitcom Happy’s Place. The actor had previously been her co-star on her namesake sitcom, Reba. Howey isn’t the only actor to reunite with McEntire on the new show and more might be planned.
Some Fans Know Him As Van, Others As Kevin
Howey got his first starring role on McEntire’s self-titled sitcom, Reba. On the show, he played Van Montgomery, the ditzy boyfriend and eventual husband of Reba’s daughter Cheyenne. After getting Cheyenne pregnant while still in high school at the start of the series, Van’s parents throw him out, causing him to move into Reba’s household.
First appearing in 2001, Howey remained on the show until its end in 2007. He and Cheyenne’s actress, JoAnna García-Swisher, also appeared in the music video for McEntire’s “Every Other Weekend.”

The Reba reunion on NBC‘s new comedy Happy’s Place is expanding as Steve Howey signs on to guest star in the comedy alongside Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman. As fans will recall, the trio appeared together in Reba with McEntire portraying the titular character Reba Hart, Peterman playing dental hygienist Barbra Jean Hart, and Howey as Reba’s son-in-law Van Montgomery. In the new series Happy’s Place, McEntire is Bobbie, a woman who inherits her father’s bar after his death, while Peterman is Gabby, an employee at the establishment. Andrew Eccles / © Fox Television / Courtesy Everett Collection According to TVLine, Howey’s casting will bring him in to play a character named Danny. “One of the arcs for [Peterman’s] character Gabby is that she thinks she wants to have a baby,” series creator Kevin Abbott told the outlet. And it turns out that Danny is a “potential sperm donor” in this scenario.

Happy's Place will be Reba McEntire's return to network TV comedy, and even before its premiere, it's already better than a Reba revival because of one character. The Queen of Country Music re-teams with producer Kevin Abbott for her next sitcom, this time on NBC. Happy's Place will be a departure from McEntire's usual roles in comedies, as this time, her story will be focused on running a bar with her newfound sister, Isabella. In the age of reboots and revivals, however, there's curiosity about why McEntire and Abbott just didn't bring back Reba.
While it has been a while since McEntire spearheaded her own sitcom, she has occasionally dabbled in the sandbox in the last several years. The last time she was in a comedy was when she made an unexpected return as June, Dale's ex-wife, in the Young Sheldon finale. As she leads her own series in Happy's Place,...
