The imaginative and groundbreaking prison drama "Oz" is getting a short sequel from its original creator, according to series star Kirk Acevedo. The actor who played inmate Miguel Alvarez for six seasons of the HBO series took to X/Twitter this week to spread the word about "Zo," a YouTube short film from series writer-creator Tom Fontana. According to Acevedo, the short is set to star Dean Winters, who played ultra-violent prisoner Ryan O'Reily in the show's original run, and Lee Tergesen, who played Tobias Beecher, an attorney-turned-inmate who was forced to adapt to harsh prison conditions. Christoph Shrewe, whose credits include "Mr. Robot," "Criminal Minds," and "Fear the Walking Dead," will direct the upcoming short.

Hollywood is remembering Lance Reddick.

The actor, recognized for his varied TV roles in The Wire, Fringe, Bosch, Lost and the HBO series Oz, has died of natural causes at the age of 60, Reddick’s rep Mia Hansen confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter Friday.

In addition to television, Reddick has also served as a voice actor on projects including The Vindicators, DuckTales, Rick and Morty and Castlevania and next reprised his role as hotel concierge Charon in the latest installment in the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4.

Reddick was also among the SAG-nominated ensemble of Regina King’s One Night in Miami and worked on Netflix’s Resident Evil series, Comedy Central’s Corporate and FX’s American Horror Story.

Hollywood is mourning the loss of a standout from the HBO drama series Oz.  Granville Adams, known for his role as Zahir Arif on the popular prison show that signed off in 2003 after six seasons, has died at age 58 following a battle with cancer. Granville Adams, who portrayed Zahir Arif in HBO’s Oz, died after a battle with cancer. He was 58.

The news was confirmed on Sunday by multiple friends including Oz‘s showrunner/executive producer Tom Fontana, and costars Kirk Acevedo and Harold Perrineau.

“I lost my brotha today after a long battle with cancer,” Acevedo shared via Twitter. “I don’t do well with loss because I’m unfamiliar with it. Yo Granny we’ll be chopping it up on the other side one day. Until then… Rest easy my friend.”

Added Perrineau via Instagram, “You can’t always cry, sometimes you’ve got to Celebrate the time you had together. Brittany and I Love this man and the entire group of family/friends that we all created. Sleep well Prince! We’ll see each other again.”

Fontana and “Oz” star Dean Winters launched a GoFundMe campaign earlier this year to help Adams and his family pay for the actor’s medical care. The campaign had gone on to raise $99,800, exceeding its $69,500 goal, though it remained active as Adams continued to require treatment.

“I’m starting to feel like this is my funeral,” Oz creator Tom Fontana joked, while sitting down for an Atx retrospective on Monday, celebrating his series’ enduring impact.

During the lively, foul-mouthed conversation, moderator Eric Deggans of NPR noted that the prison drama was the first one-hour drama series ever to air on HBO, paving the way toward a Golden Age in small-screen storytelling.

In Fontana’s opinion, Oz was groundbreaking in just one way. “HBO trusted me, as the writer and producer, to make the show I wanted, as opposed to the show they thought they wanted. I thought that gave permission to do [shows like] Sopranos and Six Feet Under,” he said. “I think…we took a chance, and it has allowed other people to make TV shows that take a chance.”
