2024 had a lot of TV shows ending, which included plenty of sci-fi and fantasy shows. And some of those endings left fans hungry for more!
It's no surprise that TV networks and streamers have a bad habit of canceling some shows too early. That's more true for sci-fi and fantasy shows that have a harder time capturing a large audience to justify their large budgets. It's jarring that some shows barely seemed to get out of the gate before being cut short. From famous shows to more overlooked ones, here's a look at the sci-fi/fantasy show cancellations that really angered folks in 2024!

The Golden Globes nominations have hit, and there are some surprising and frustrating snubs among them.
Whenever the Golden Globes are announced, the talk is less about who got nominated than who didn’t. The sad truth is that with so many shows competing, there are only so many slots, and the Globes should be commended for recognizing more streaming shows than the Emmys do.
This year had a few nice surprises, like Kate Winslet forThe Regime. A few snubs aren’t too shocking. Palm Royale wasn’t exactly a great show. However, others seem to be the thing Golden Globes voters would go for. They were critically acclaimed, had big buzz, and seemed set for a nomination but didn’t get it. While there are many contenders, these rank as the 10 surprising TV snubs of the 2025 Golden Globes, which may confuse their fans.

Of all the horror shows that premiered in the year 2024 (or debuted a new season), which one do you see yourself re-watching because it was just that good? I can think of a few!
In our list of the best horror shows of 2024, we include both new shows and old favorites that dropped a new season. But before we begin, let’s quickly mention the worst of the worst. On our list below, you will not find Hulu’s American Horror Stories or FX’s Grotesquerie, the latter being one series we wish we could unsee! Yes, it’s that awful.
And as far as honorable mentions go, we have to give a shout to Them: The Scare and Dead Boy Detectives. Now, drumroll for our top four….

A priest-in-training and two skeptics walk into a bar. The wannabe priest says, “Wanna join my mission?” The two skeptics say, “Sure, why not?” as shadowy figures zoom into focus in the background. A solid joke? No. The premise of the crime procedural Evil? Yes, yes it is.
From The Good Wife and The Good Fight creators Michelle and Robert King, Evil follows a priest-in-training, a forensic psychologist, and contractor who investigate unexplained phenomena for the Catholic Church.

The following contains spoilers for Evil, now streaming on Netflix and Paramount+Evil's best characters range from the heroic to the demonic, all filtered through the show's unique blend of character drama, unexpected comedy, and grim horror. Evil focuses on a group of "Assessors," tasked with the Church to investigate potential demonic forces operating on Earth. The procedural nature of the show allowed for almost every episode to have stand-alone qualities, even as it expanded the universe and explored the grim backstories of the central heroes.
One of the things that makes the show such a compelling watch (to the point where Stephen King was a vocal champion of Evil) is the attention paid to the show's central cast of characters. There are plenty of classic horror archetypes in the show's cast, but they're all given unexpected shades that make them uniquely compelling. These edges elevate the series into a fantastic show.

It’s somewhat fitting that a show so adept at exploring the unknown would find itself facing the unknown more often than not, which was often the case with the Paramount Plus cult hit horror series “Evil.”
The show, which followed a small team of “assessors” working for the Catholic church investigating all types of supernatural mysteries ranging from possessions to miracles, premiered to healthy buzz on CBS in 2019 and rave reviews from horror fans. But ratings were more modest by the end of Season 1, so Paramount opted to make the series a streaming exclusive on its fledgling (at the time) streaming service Paramount Plus.
After initially jumping from broadcast to streaming to survive potential cancelation, “Evil” would manage to hang on for four seasons and a total of 50 episodes, before wrapping its run in August of 2024 just in time for a full Halloween season binge. Paramount chose to end...

After four seasons, Evil is over. The horror/detective show moved from CBS to Paramount+ in 2021, where it improved. It could be the freedom of not being on network TV, different writers, or something else. Regardless of the reason, the show was better on Paramount+. Unfortunately, the series finale left a lot up in the air.

The following contains spoilers for Evil season 4 episode 14, "Fear of the End," now streaming on Paramount+Evil's season four finale is also effectively the ending of the fan-favorite horror series, even if it leaves a number of door open for further adventures. Across four seasons, Evil's central trio of psychiatric consultant Kristen Bouchard, priest David Acosta, and inventive contractor Ben Shakir have survived plenty of the worst kinds of threats the world can throw at them. Along the way, they've also confronted the darkest corners of their own mortality and come out the other side stronger and united in the face of evil.
This carries through the series finale, "Fear of the End," which brings back many elements from previous seasons and effectively works as a closing chapter of the series. This includes resolving their long-running conflict with the dangerous Leland, as well as their prickly relationship with the Catholic Church.

Stephen King is continuing to campaign for the Paramount+ series Evil to make its return from the dead.

Hell hath no fury like fans who lose a brilliant show before its time. Such is the case with Evil, the supernatural series unlike anything else on screens. When word came down from on high that Evil would end with the conclusion of its fourth season, fans rallied online to save the show from cancelation, with the show’s brilliant star, Katja Herbers, leading the charge. Herber’s enthusiasm for the series is inspiring, with the actress championing the show’s continuation at every turn, signaling to networks and streamers that Team Evil is ready and willing to continue the show’s unique spin on the all but extinct and nostalgic monster-of-the-week formula. Helping to add fuel to Herbers’ fire is the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King, who recently sang Evil’s praises during a PBS News interview. With such a ringing endorsement from one of entertainment’s most sought-after creators,...

This article contains spoilers for Evil season 4 episode 14.
The title of Evil season 4 episode 14, “Fear of the End”* has a double meaning. It seems very likely the clocks will tick out on Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), as well as much of the ecclesiastical order, by the finale’s end. For fans who didn’t skip past the theme song, for old time’s sake, it also means Evil was much too short-lived a series. Creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King are to be mourned. “Fear of the End” concludes as a finale, but feels like a death. There is more story to tell, and the final episode is littered with possibilities.
Note: The final four episodes of Evil season 4 technically constitute a “mini” fifth and final season for the show per Paramount+. But the cast and crew have...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about the Evil series finale “Fear of the End,” which dropped this morning on Paramount+
In the end, Evil truly brought evil to the heart of the Catholic church with a potential Antichrist baby now being wheeled around the sunny Vatican by its mother Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and its priestly guardian of sorts David Acosta (Mike Colter).
Talk about going dark.
“The punchline at the end, is this kid possibly, or probably, is the Antichrist, and Lexis (Maddy Crocco), the second youngest, is probably going to be this evil protector to him,” says Evil co-creator and finale director Robert King of the fanged and white-eyed baby staring up at his mother. “Then it comes down to Kristen, who’s always mother first to protect those two, and actually probably to the detriment of humankind, but to the benefit of her family, which is just comic to us.

Known primarily as a chronicler of urban crime and corruption with noirs like In the Palm of Your Hand, The Other One, and Night Falls, Mexican director Roberto Gavaldón proved himself equally adept at tackling another popular national genre of the era, the rural melodrama, with 1952’s Soledad’s Shawl. Following a skilled doctor, Alberto Robles (Arturo de Córdova), who yearns to leave the small, remote town he works in and return to Mexico City for an important research job, Gavaldón’s film is a superb exploration of the dichotomies between urban and rural, science and superstition, and body and soul.
While the presence of Catholic morality is pervasive throughout, the film resists such trite tropes like the sinful city man learning the values of religion or coming to love the simple charms and beauty of the countryside. This rural region is seen instead as a place of grinding poverty,...

Andrea Martin has mixed feelings about Evil ending after 4 seasons, feeling disappointed but grateful for the opportunity. Other cast members share similar mixed emotions about the show's cancellation, highlighting the impact on their careers and bonds. Despite high critical ratings and a successful move to Netflix, fans are disappointed with the decision to end Evil after season 4.
With three acclaimed seasons under its belt, Evil is coming to a close with season 4, and Andrea Martin has very mixed feelings about it. When satanic cults and demons get out of control, who you gonna call? Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi, of course! Evil Season 4 premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday, May 23, and it will be one hell of a finale for the supernatural procedural with outrageous self-aware humor, sinister villains running amok, and character chemistry that brings it all together.
We had the pleasure of discussing the fourth and final season of Evil with Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi, whose journey of uncovering the mysteries of insidious forces behind the veil of reality end with the conclusion of a 14-episode finale. While Evil Season 4 is the show’s last hoorah on Paramount+, Evil could get picked up by another streamer, as several of the show’s stars are game to continue the story. I hope that’s the case after binging four seasons to prepare for this interview.

We may not be ready to say goodbye to Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and her friends, but we don’t have a choice.
Paramount+ has confirmed the upcoming fourth season of Evil will be its last.
The only good news from the announcement is that four additional episodes have been ordered to help bring the series to a close.
Many shows don’t get endings, but Evil has been one of those shows that beat the odds.
The procedural premiered on CBS in September 2019 and scored a renewal quickly despite soft on-air viewership.

Evil star Mike Colter has teased more of the mysterious Vatican organization known as the “Entity” in season 4. First introduced in Evil season 2, the “Entity” was revealed to be the Catholic Church’s own Secret Service organization represented primarily by the enigmatic Victor LeConte (Brian d'Arcy James). Following the ordination of Colter’s Father David Acosta at the end of season 2, he was later recruited to work for the “Entity” in season 3 by LeConte but has increasingly struggled with the secretive demands it has placed upon him.
In the latest edition of the TVLine feature Matt's Inside Line, one reader asked if there were any potential teases for the upcoming Evil season 4. In response, it was revealed that when TVLine interviewed Colter on set, the star revealed that the “Entity” would continue to feature throughout the new season and would be revealed as something more sinister than Father Acosta first anticipated.

“Evil” is wrapping up filming on Season 4 earlier than anticipated. After the set faced disruptions by picketing Writers Guild members on Friday, the Paramount+ series is now seeing a cast member take a leave of absence due to a personal family matter. As a result, production has wrapped early on the next season.
A source close to the series would only confirm that the early end to filming was a result of the unnamed actor’s temporary exit from the show. However, no filming occurred on Friday, as Writers Guild members on strike demonstrated near the production.
The fourth season of “Evil” was commissioned to include 10 episodes. It remains unclear whether the early end to production will impact those plans.

With the newest chapter now in production, Michael Emerson teases what's to come from Leland's story in Evil season 4. Emerson's character has served as the key antagonist throughout the Paramount+ horror show's run, acting as a rival to Katja Herbers' Dr. Kristen Bouchard and Mike Colter's David Acosta during their investigations into various supernatural phenomenon. Given Evil has also shown him toying with David's close advisor, Sister Andrea Martin, and putting Kristen's mother, Sheryl, on a darker path, his power only seems to be rising heading into future seasons of the show.

Michael Emerson does not think that Evil should explore Leland's backstory. The supernatural drama series, which moved from CBS to Paramount+ in 2021, tracks psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), as she joins forces with Catholic seminarian David Acosta (Mike Colter) and technology contractor Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) to examine paranormal activity. When audiences were introduced to Dr. Leland Townsend, he had stolen Kristen's therapy notes and began making alarming suggestions to her and David. As the show progressed, it became evident that he was acting with malicious intent, and in the Evil season 3 finale, it was revealed that he had used Kristen's missing egg as a way to bring a demon into the world.
While new details might be revealed about certain characters in Evil season 4, it is unlikely that Leland's backstory will be explored. During Screen Rant's exclusive interview with Emerson, the actor shares that he enjoys the amount...

Michael Emerson is teasing how Evil season 4 could be the show's best stretch of episodes yet. The supernatural drama series has maintained consistent ratings over at Paramount+, as well as relative praise from critics and audiences alike. It follows psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and her efforts, along with Catholic seminarian David Acosta (Mike Colter) and technology contractor Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), to investigate a number of supposedly paranormal events. Emerson stars as Leland Townsend, a rival of Kristen's who influences others to commit acts of evil, and in the season 3 finale, audiences were surprised to learn that Kristen's missing egg was used by him and another woman to have a child.
With Kristen finding out about Leland's plans and Sheryl's (Christine Lahti) involvement at Df, there's a lot of interest in what happens when Evil returns. In Screen Rant's exclusive interview with Emerson, the actor revealed that filming...

This Evil review contains spoilers.
Evil Season 3 Episode 6
Evil proves you don’t have to be likable to get likes. “The Demon of Algorithms” opens with one of the most promising examples of demonic possession the series has offered so far, but it’s just clickbait to something more sinister. The monster of the week is so human it can trick artificial intelligence.
The Catholic Church’s metro area paranormal team – Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) – almost come to the same conclusions in the two cases they encounter. Their initial findings lead to something diabolical enough to ready a call for clerical help. Their instincts are as wrong as they are correct in both cases, which is the underlying reason “The Demon of Algorithms” is one of the most satisfying installments of the season.
Clickbait is on the rise, by design,...
