2024 had a lot of TV shows ending, which included plenty of sci-fi and fantasy shows. And some of those endings left fans hungry for more!

It's no surprise that TV networks and streamers have a bad habit of canceling some shows too early. That's more true for sci-fi and fantasy shows that have a harder time capturing a large audience to justify their large budgets. It's jarring that some shows barely seemed to get out of the gate before being cut short. From famous shows to more overlooked ones, here's a look at the sci-fi/fantasy show cancellations that really angered folks in 2024!

The procedural nature of the show allowed for almost every episode to have stand-alone qualities, even as it expanded the universe and explored the grim backstories of the central heroes.

One of the things that makes the show such a compelling watch (to the point where Stephen King was a vocal champion of Evil) is the attention paid to the show's central cast of characters. There are plenty of classic horror archetypes in the show's cast, but they're all given unexpected shades that make them uniquely compelling. These edges elevate the series into a fantastic show.

It’s somewhat fitting that a show so adept at exploring the unknown would find itself facing the unknown more often than not, which was often the case with the Paramount Plus cult hit horror series “Evil.”

The show, which followed a small team of “assessors” working for the Catholic church investigating all types of supernatural mysteries ranging from possessions to miracles, premiered to healthy buzz on CBS in 2019 and rave reviews from horror fans. But ratings were more modest by the end of Season 1, so Paramount opted to make the series a streaming exclusive on its fledgling (at the time) streaming service Paramount Plus.

Evil star Katja Herbers is speaking out on the cancellation of the Paramount+ series, indicating it was a network decision that the series would end. She also put out feelers to Netflix for a possible pickup.

Paramount+ has confirmed the upcoming fourth season of Evil will be its last.

The only good news from the announcement is that four additional episodes have been ordered to help bring the series to a close.

Many shows don’t get endings, but Evil has been one of those shows that beat the odds.

The procedural premiered on CBS in September 2019 and scored a renewal quickly despite soft on-air viewership.

Because the show had such a robust digital footprint, it was moved to Paramount+ beginning with its second season, where it will remain through its fourth and final season.

The one-minute teaser for the fourth and confirmed final season of Paramount+’s Evil may be short on clips but still manages to capture the series’ tone. At one point, Ben asks, “Doesn’t it seem like these assignments are getting weirder?” and Kristen replies, “I can’t even tell anymore.”

Paramount+’s teaser trailer’s release was accompanied by the news that the final season will premiere in May. The streamer also announced they’ve ordered four bonus episodes that will wrap up the series. The bonus episodes will begin production soon in New York.

The monster of the week is so human it can trick artificial intelligence.

The Catholic Church’s metro area paranormal team – Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) – almost come to the same conclusions in the two cases they encounter. Their initial findings lead to something diabolical enough to ready a call for clerical help. Their instincts are as wrong as they are correct in both cases, which is the underlying reason “The Demon of Algorithms” is one of the most satisfying installments of the season.
