On Jan. 9, country singer Chris Stapleton announced his extended All-American Road Show tour dates in the summer of 2025.

The summer tour is slated to kick off in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 4. Stapleton will make stops across the U.S., performing in Michigan, New York, and Utah, among others, before concluding the tour in Hollywood, Florida, on Oct. 10.

The tour follows and supports the November 2023 release of Stapleton’s album, Higher.

Accompanying Stapleton on the tour is a long list of artists, including Maggie Rose, Brittney Spencer, Marcus King, Nikki Lane, Allen Stone, Grace Potter, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, The War & Treaty and Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives.

Ever since 2017, Stapleton has gone on a nationwide summer tour, and is known to always feature many other country artists at his shows.

You’d have to look pretty far and wide to find anyone in music who has been as consistently good or eternally enjoyable as Miranda Lambert. Almost 20 years into her run, she’s defined her career by always going her own way, both musically and lyrically. Her ninth solo set was recorded in her native Texas with help from peers and longtime collaborators like Brent Cobb, Natalie Hemby, and Jack Ingram, and the album’s co-producer Jon Randall. Doug Supernaw, the Texas-born Nineties country singer who had a string of radio hits in the early part of the decade, including the 1993 Number One “I Don’t Call Him Daddy,” has died at 60 following a lengthy bout with lung and bladder cancer. Hank Williams Jr., Marty Stuart, and songwriter Dean Dillon are the 2020 class of inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Country Music Association made the announcement on Wednesday morning.

Williams will fill the “Veterans Era Artist” slot, Stuart will be inducted as the “Modern Era Artist,” and Dillon in the “Songwriter” category, which rotates every three years with the “Non-Performer” and “Recording and/or Touring Musician” inductees.

Williams’ induction comes nearly 60 years after his father — the still influential Hank Williams — was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Scene 32Field of Stone (2007) the first film by Shambhavi Kaul, is a feature-length documentary about the polarizing Harley-Davidson-riding country western singer David Allan Coe, but ten years later, that film looks like an anomaly. The Durham-based filmmaker and daughter of Mani Kaul, the acclaimed director associated with India’s Parallel Cinema movement, is now notable primarily for her experimental found-footage shorts. The first of these, Scene 32 (2009), begins with a wide, overhead shot of salt flats of India’s Kutch district, seemingly preparing the viewer for a landscape film. But unlike James Benning, Peter Hutton, or Tomonari Nishikawa, whose “landscape films” have deservedly gained recognition among film critics interested in the large umbrella of “experimental films,” as while as academics and artists working in a similar mode, Kaul seems unconcerned with duration and movement. After several seconds, she quickly cuts to a shot of the same flats taken from much closer to the ground.

Toby Keith's annual celebrity charity golf tournament last month raised a massive $600,000.

Held in Norman, Oklahoma, the Toby Keith and friends Golf Classic raised money for the Ok Kids Korral, a 16-room guest lodge, which will house pediatric cancer patients and their families on the grounds of Oklahoma University Medical Center.

The golf tournament also featured a concert which included performances by David Allan Coe and Phil Vassar, as well as an auction that featured items donated by Miley Cyrus, Garth Brooks, Darius Rucker, Michael Phelps and Brett Farve. It's worth noting two things about Coe: (1) he claims (or claimed) to have killed a man while in prison, which earned him a temporary space on death row and (2) two of his albums -- "Nothing Sacred" and "Underground" -- are laced with mature themes, profanity and outright racial slurs. The death row claim has been refuted somewhat, though it is a fact that Coe spent time in an Ohio prison.

Is there now such a thing as Neo-Classic ’70s Country-Rock?

Beware may be the best country-rock album David Allan Coe never got around to making himself. Will Oldham’s stage persona, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, stepped up the ranks of his backing musicians on recent albums, abandoning his team of rough, occasionally error-prone indie rockers for tight ensembles who can replicate a 1970s outlaw-country band without dropping a false note. While no country rocker would likely ruminate in the elliptical, often illusory prose Oldham favors, they’d surely embrace the sweet ballroom-dance harmonies of “I Don’t Belong to Anyone,” the gallant clomp of “You Don’t Love Me” and “I Am Goodbye,” and the sweet, forlorn plod of “You Are Lost.” Oldham still finds room to stretch beyond the borders. “There Is Something I Have To Say” swells in that listless ennui he favored in a past life, while “Afraid...
