Most Super Bowl viewers live nowhere near Shane Gillis, Post Malone and Peyton Manning. On Sunday February 9, the people who help sell Bud Light hope they see the trio as just three more of their friends or neighbors.

The popular beer, which has been a staple of Super Bowl advertising for 35 years, will introduce “Big Men of Cul-de-Sac,” a group of regular folks who enjoy grilling in the backyard and talking in the driveway, says Todd Allen, senior vice president of marketing for Bud Light, in an interview. The new 60-second ad turns up in Super Bowl Lix alongside commercials for parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Stella Artois, Budweiser and Michelob Ultra.

The spot is meant to pay tribute “to those neighborhood parties that are happening across every backyard, every cul-de-sac in America,” says Allen. “We hope our fans can see themselves in this.”

Bud Light is ready for a brand reboot, and it is betting on the Super Bowl to help deliver it.

2023 was a tough year for the brand, which saw its sales decline double digits following an influencer-marketing campaign that included transgender TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney.

The popular Anheuser-Busch brew, hoping to rally consumers to its cause after a difficult period, will unveil the latest in a parade of funny characters in Super Bowl Lviii. A new ad slated to run in the third quarter of the game introduces the Bud Light Genie, an affable creature who grants a group of friends many wishes during an epic night out. By the time the commercial ends, the pals meet up with Peyton Manning, Post Malone and UFC CEO Dana White.

“There really is a universal truth behind it,” says Todd Allen, vice president of marketing for Bud Light. “A weeknight out with your friends should be easy.”

The commercial marks a return by Bud Light to the humorous advertising that has made it one of the most durable sponsors of the Big Game.

Despite historical inaccuracies, Sherman McMasters, played by Michael Rooker, stands out as one of the most interesting characters in Tombstone. In the film, McMasters is portrayed as a former member of Johnny Ringo's gang who later joins the Earps, becoming a valuable asset. After getting tangled in the nation’s culture wars with a Bud Light social-media promotion that included transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney — a move that unexpectedly resulted in boycotts, diminished sales and a decision to put on leave two marketing executives who oversaw the effort — the company hopes to move on with a new ad campaign that focuses on the many summer activities that present an appropriate moment for the beer, one of the best-known beverages in the United States. “Good Times,” the sunny 1978 hit by the dance-music group Chic, plays throughout.

“We want to show up in all relevant occasions in summer — backyard barbecues, stadiums and sports venues,” says Todd Allen, an Anheuser-Busch veteran who was recently named vice president of Bud Light, in an interview. “That’s what counts and that’s what we are focused on.

John Oliver took a portion out of Last Week Tonight to discuss Anheuser-Busch’s recent response to fierce right-wing criticism the brewing giant faced following its partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

At the beginning of April, Mulvaney, who has more than 10.8 million followers on social media, posted a video showing her opening a can of Bud Light, with the hashtag #budlightpartner. But the Bud Light-Mulvaney partnership quickly drew negative comments from people who claimed they were angry about the world going “woke.”

This week, Scream Factory gave all those Kevin Tenney fans out there what they’ve been waiting for by the way of stellar presentations of two of his beloved cult classics on Blu-ray: Witchboard and Night of the Demons. Once again, Scream Factory did a wonderful job of shining the spotlight on two more great horror films that many of us grew up enjoying.

Review: Witchboard Blu-ray

Witchboard, a movie I last saw back in the 90’s when it was still only available on VHS, isn’t by any means the scariest work from Tenney’s career, but there’s a lot to admire about his oddball supernatural story where a super-sexy Tawny Kitaen gets a little too handsy with her friend’s Ouija board.

The story begins when Brandon Sinclair (Stephen Nichols) trots out his trusty ol’ Ouija (pronounced wee-jaa as Brandon so fondly likes to correct people) board...
