2024 marks the 40th anniversary of one of my favorite entries in my favorite franchise: the Friday the 13th sequel Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – and to mark the occasion, Paramount Scares and Fangoria have teamed up to bring the movie back to theatres as part of the Scream Greats series! Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will be showing in theatres today (that’s September 10th), with more showings to follow on Sunday, September 15th… and yes, of course, some theatres will be showing the movie this Friday as well, since it happens to be a Friday the 13th. Heartbreak comes frequently for Friday the 13th fans. The franchise has had a rough ride over the last couple decades, getting bogged down in legal issues and creative false stars. We get a video game, then the rug is pulled out from under it when it’s just getting started. A movie almost happens, then gets scrapped just weeks before filming was scheduled to begin. The Crystal Lake TV show was just a couple months from filming, then the showrunner gets fired. But worse than all of that is the fact that we’re in a time when actors from our beloved films are passing away very often. Just last month, we lost Erich Anderson, who was in the cast of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Now Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI director Tom McLoughlin has broken the news that Whitney Rydbeck, who played the ill-fated paintball player Roy in his film,...

Erich Anderson, who was sometimes also credited as E. Erich Anderson, racked up over 100 credits during a screen acting career that stretched from 1983 into the 2020s, but he may be best known for playing the role of Rob in the 1984 slasher classic Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. A character out for revenge, Rob looked like he had a shot at being able to take down hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees for good… but when Rob finally caught up with Jason, things did not go well for him at all. Among Friday the 13th fans, Rob has become a favorite due to the fact that he seems so cool and capable at first, but then whiffs his shot at vengeance in a major way. For the last few years, Paramount has been giving the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. The original Friday the 13th got its steelbook release in 2020, and you can pick that up Here. Friday the 13th Part 2 got its steelbook release in 2021, and you can buy that one at This Link. Friday the 13th Part III followed its predecessors in 2022, and you can get that steelbook Here. There was no Friday the 13th movie released in 1983, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter didn’t come along until ’84, so I was wondering if Paramount was going to wait an extra year to release a steelbook for that one… and the answer is no. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release for its 39th anniversary, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon!

"I'm feeling all this stuff that we can't really share with anybody." Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie small town drama titled Cold Brook, which is also the feature directorial debut of actor William Fichtner. Two ordinary guys in a small town embark on an extraordinary adventure and risk everything for a stranger in need. This hasn't shown up anywhere else, but is getting a VOD release next month for anyone curious about this. Fichtner most recently appeared in Finding Steve McQueen, Traffik, and 12 Strong. Cold Brook also stars Fichtner, along with Kim Coates, Harold Perrineau, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Brad William Henke, Charlene Amoia, Johnny Strong, Erich Anderson, plus Robin Weigert. Well this definitely looks like a quaint small town adventure, a rather heartfelt tale of goodness. "What were you doing in my house?" "I heard a scream." Vertical Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for a low-key thriller titled The Neighbor, from director Aaron Harvey. The indie drama stars the very talented character actor William Fichtner (last seen in 12 Strong, Elysium, The Lone Ranger, Drive Angry, The Dark Knight) as a reserved man stuck in a stagnant marriage whose life is upended when an attractive young woman and her husband move in to the home next door to them. The cast includes Jessica McNamee, Jean Louisa Kelly, Michael Rosenbaum, Colin Woodell, and Erich Anderson. I can't tell if there's a big twist in this, but it seems like a solidly engaging friendly-neighbor thriller. Check it out. Jason Voorhees lost his head, but got a stay of execution in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky since October 1307 when King Philip IV of France ordered the executions of all of the Knights Templars because God was “not pleased.” It was a bloody beginning to a long tradition.
But not every Friday the Thirteenth is unfortunate, no matter how much blood gets spilled. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was very lucky.

Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.

Sometimes you wanna go where you know everybody’s name. For diehard fans, that’s the fun of revisiting Friday The 13th. Even if you’ve heard or read some of the stories contained in His Name Was Jason at conventions, in books like Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories and the documentaries, etc. included on the 2004 Friday DVD box, there’s still a weird lust for some of us to search for undiscovered livers and gizzards in the franchise’s body.
