Netflix has revolutionized the home movie experience for fans of film with its instant streaming technology. Netflix Nuggets is my way of spreading the word about independent, classic and foreign films being made available by Netflix for instant streaming. Important Note: There may be some films that do not become available on the specified dates. This is merely a report of the most accurate release dates I can find, but is not directly confirmed by Netflix themselves.

Summer 2010 may be over and Oscar season has all but begun with the highly anticipated debuts of Never Let Me Go, The Way Back, 127 Hours, and The King's Speech (all four screened at the Telluride Film Festival last weekend), with more to come (e.g., The Social Network), but multiplexes will have their share of non-serious, non-Oscar-bait films that will likely draw bigger audiences than those (and other) Oscar hopefuls. They're meant to be entertaining crowd-pleasers, not serious-minded thought-provokers. Moviegoers will judge them both on those expectations and their individual merits.
Megamind, DreamWorks Animation's second animated film this year (How to Train Your Dragon was the first), borrows heavily from the Superman mythos, but instead of one alien infant saved from the destruction of his planet by a fortuitous rocket ship, Megamind has two, a Superman-like superhero, Metro-Man (voiced by Brad Pit) and Megamind (Will Farrell), a big-brained, blue-skinned alien...

Herein we have the latest attempt to adapt John Updike’s 1984 novel The Witches Of Eastwick for television. For the uninitiated, the story involves the escapades of three contemporary New England women who begin experimenting with the forces of magic. Into this growing mystical idyll comes the dark, wealthy and mysterious Darryl Van Horne and, from there, matters become progressively spookier. The ABC show premiered last night and will air regularly Wednesdays, 10 p.m. Est.
Adapting an author such as Updike for the milieu of series television automatically places a mountain in the path of any production crew. Imagine, for instance, making a weekly sitcom out of Arthur Miller’s Death Of A Salesman (“Attention must be paid!” Cue laughtrack!). To give screenwriter Maggie Friedman and veteran director David Nutter (a Starlog favorite) their due, however, they’re obviously aware of what is required of them and have done what they could.
