After seeing political commentators spout extreme rhetoric about a mass shooting, Lola Blanc wondered: do they actually believe any of it? That question served as the creative impetus behind her brand new short film, Pruning, starring the one and only, Madeline Brewer. Talking heads like Tomi Lahren became the basis from which the rest of the film grew.
In its original inception, Pruning was not a body-horror film at all. It was a character study. Co-written with Jeremy Radin, the film examines the social and moral implications of extremist beliefs. Blanc utilizes horror elements to tell the tale of a right-wing commentator named Sami Geller (Brewer) who struggles with her conscience and being a mouthpiece for the alt-right. “We had outlined a version of it, and we were like, ‘It’s just not getting at the thing enough–the horror that this really should be capturing.’ So we dug a little deeper.

One of the producers gives us the inside scoop on how the Defender of the Universe nearly returned to TV screens.
DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender was a smash hit. The Voltron fanbase exploded in size, we got a new toyline, and new comics. After such a long wait after Voltron Force ended in 2012, it was great to see the series return to TV.
But did you know we were close to getting a live action Voltron TV series? No no, not the long gestating movie fans have been hearing about for over ten years. A TV series.

Break has a new web series aimed at budget-conscious movie prop aficionados. The digital entertainment company released the first episode of its Diy series Low Budget Prop Shop on July 6, 2015, on Break’s Awe me YouTube channel.
Low Budget Prop Shop is hosted by Dustin McLean (of Cinefix’s Homemade Movies series); in the series, McLean shows viewers how to recreate props from famous movies and games, using everyday materials worth no more than $50 total. In this way, the series is similar to that of Geek & Sundry's Craft Lab, where hosts Anna Akana and Greg Aronowitz spin a wheel to determine which pop culture icon they'll create and the materials they'll use.
For the debut episode of Low Budget Prop Shop, McLean gathers cheap building materials from various stores and around the house to create a Terminator robotic arm from the Terminator film franchise (appropriate timing, considering the recent release...

Geek & Sundry has a new series aimed at all the creative crafters and do-it-yourself-ers in the geek world. The nerdy network, founded by Felicia Day and owned by Legendary Entertainment, will debut Craft Lab on March 17, 2015.
Craft Lab is hosted by Hollywood production designer Greg Aronowitz (of The Haunted Mansion and Batman and Robin) and YouTube star Anna Akana. In each episode, the team of crafters spins two different wheels, one showing pop culture characters and another showing building materials. The items on each wheel were previously chosen by Geek & Sundry viewers. Aronowitz and Akana spin the wheels and must create a piece of art using the matched selections. The premiere episode of Craft Lab features a version of The Hobbit’s Smaug made out of plastic spoons.
A Geek & Sundry rep notes that while the show centers on crafting projects, most of the episodes will feature ideas average Diy...

We've seen a lot really cool geeky jack-o'-lanterns over the years, but until today I've never seen one that is remote controlled. Greg Aronowitz participated in Geek & Sundry's Halloweek, and created this incredibly cool Star Wars inspired R2-D2 remote control pumpkin. The video below takes us through the process of building it from the pumpkin patch to the finished product.

Wanted to check out Power Rangers but haven’t had the chance? Here are the episodes to get you started.
So you’ve heard of Power Rangers. Maybe remember watching it as a kid. But recently you’ve noticed, “hey, wait a minute. This show is still on… How???" Well after nearly nine hundred episodes Power Rangers has attracted a huge fanbase. Across the twenty five plus seasons there have been episodes that have hooked people. Episodes that have sparked the imagination, drawn people in, and turned them from casual viewers into hardcore fans.
Of course you might be a little busy to watch nearly nine hundred episodes to find those gems, so here's a sampling to get you started.
It should be noted this is not a “best episodes” list nor is it an “essential viewing guide.” This is just a smattering of episodes that can...

There have been a number of Power Rangers pitches that never quite made it to the screen. We've got the details on three of them.
The world of television is a crazy place. For every idea that eventually makes it to screen, a hundred more are left unused. Some of them are true gems, others are discarded for the realities of production, and some are just plain bad.
Power Rangers is no exception to this. For a show that’s been on for twenty years, a lot of ideas have been lost for one reason or the other: Greg Aronowitz's original idea for a Lord of the Rings version of Mystic Force, Devin becoming the Triassic Ranger, and even the fabled “Ancient Rangers". Whether all these would have happened, or if they were even true, still provoke fandom discussion to this day. Today we’ll be...

Those wondering how Volition could ever top themselves with the tentacle bat from Saints Row 3 have clearly yet to play "Saints Row 4." Because that game has someone even wackier, and it is the tentacle rod.
And of course someone decided to make a real live version of the thing. Because, you know, internet.
The following, courtesy of Destructoid, has Greg Aronowitz of detailing it's creation. He claims that it was build because "friends at Machinima" asked him too, which is an excusBarnyardFXe one hears a bit too often these days. It's like when married men tells their wives that they only went to a strip club because their single friend dragged to one:
At any rate, Aronowitz's creation is quite impressive, though it's also not nearly as disgusting as one might have assumed it would be, especially if one is familiar with how tentacles are often represented in other forms of entertainment.

Chances are you've never seen a movie like this before. But if Roddenberry Entertainment can pull it off, you may see much more like it in the future. Roddenberry Entertainment -- led by Eugene W. Roddenberry Jr., the son of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry -- is producing "White Room: 02B3," a film by director Greg Aronowitz that will have a cast of six -- but a camera contingent of nine. That's right, "White Room: 02B3" will be what is expected to be one of, if not the first, 360-degree movie with nine 2K cameras, all running simultaneously. It will capture what Roddenberry calls "high-quality panoramic video with no gaps or distortion." The film is not just a film where attention is focused on one frame. Instead, the actors involved with "White Room: 02B3" have to incorporate ...

Pick your jaw up off the floor, guys. Yes, it is geek darling Felicia Day in her elfin costume for her newest web series project, Dragon Age Redemption, inspired by the Bioware game franchise Dragon Age. Day is all hands-on for this project with writing the script, starring as an Elvish assassin, and co-producing the six-part series. Day is undoubtedly excited to reveal her next project:
“I’m a huge Dragon Age fan, and I have been looking for a follow up project to The Guild for quite some time. I was thrilled when the opportunity to work with BioWare materialized. Dragon Age: Redemption allows me to tell a fantasy story in a new way, using a universe I really love.”
In her blog, she talks about how this collaborative project came together out of the mutual passion for fantasy:

They took the Seinfeld way out. Finish while you’re on top. And that they did. Today the series finale (above) of Atom’s long-running hit comedy The Legend of Neil hits the internet after a special screening in downtown Los Angeles last night. We knew this day was coming, and even counting down to it doesn’t make it any easier. This one goes way back for us at Tubefilter. For me, this is the end of an era in web series. Not that no one will ever center a comedy of 80’s pop references around a video game again—no it will happen—but this kind of all star team doesn’t exactly come around every day. Let’s not drop into full board comps to the gold medal winning 1992 Dream Team, but here’s a web series that has Felicia Day on its roster but equally touted...

Fans didn’t have to wait long to feast their eyes on the latest music video from hit web series The Guild, which unveiled the to a ballroom full of over 1600 wide-eyed fans at Comic-Con on Saturday. In what has become an annual tradition for the web series after its multi-million view breakout “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar” video from last year’s Con penetrated well beyond the show’s loyal fans, this year’s video upped the ante in terms of production and dance moves. (That, and we are now officially convinced that Felicia Day could also make a sizable living as a singer.) Zaboo convinces Codex to resume game play by transporting them to a world of inspiring song and dance. Vibrant costumes and a large cast of extras give it an over-the-top look and feel. The video is up on Microsoft’s Bing Video alongside the...

At this point, you might as well start preparing for Felicia Day’s dominance of the geek world with the latest player in “The Guild” spin-offs. In addition to the three-part comic “The Guild” has done with Dark Horse, Day has just announced an animated television series called “Lil Guildies”.
Day is a stickler for creative control of her products and seems to retain this on this project as well, saying:
“I love working on the web because I don’t have to compromise creatively. I thought a mainstream kids show for TV would be a disaster in that regard but they kept saying that they loved my sensibility and they really wanted me to do whatever I felt was true to the tone of the web series.”

It looks like The Guild will continue its transmedia dominance after releasing the first of the three-part The Guild comic through Dark Horse with...an animated TV series! Day revealed to Tubefilter that she has inked a deal with a very prominent animation house (we're not allowed to say due to Nda obligations, but boy do we wish we could!) to bring to life a Muppet Baby-esque series that shows us what our favorite Guildies would look like as kids. When first broached with the idea, Day was hesitant due to her already packed schedule of prepping the comics as well as her staring role in the upcoming SyFy series Red, but being able to share The Guild to gamers with kids was too good of an opportunity to pass up. "I love working on the web because I don't have to compromise creatively," said Day. "I thought a mainstream...

The Guild season 3 may be wrapped, but that didn't stop the hit show from celebrating one of its favorite holidays, Christmas. For those that remember, last year's 'The Guild Christmas Carol Raid' made our favorite holiday videos list. This year they have taken it up a notch (or six) with an interactive YouTube video adventure of sorts, showing off their latest faux merchandising. The full set of six parody commercials, "The Guild Sells Out" hit the interwebs today. The videos were written and directed by special effects artists Greg Aronowitz, who crafted the oversized avatar weapons and props for The Guild's viral megahit Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? music video. The Guild's Felicia Day and Kim Evey produced the videos. While I wish the toys themselves were actually for sale—like the Codex Answer Orb — the commercials do promote something fans can buy, the Season 1 & 2 DVDs on...
