Leading actress of the British stage, who made occasional forays into screen acting (including four appearances for Alfred Hitchcock).

She married famous tennis player Henry "Bunny" Austin in 1931 and they became one of the most popular prominent couples of that time. They published their autobiography under the title "Mixed Doubles".

In her later years she joined her husband in the Oxford Group, performing in several films and theatrical productions around the world to benefit the cause.

She met Bunny Austin on a cruise liner while traveling to the US to appear in a stage production of Frank Vosper's "Murder on the Second Floor", opposite her close friend Laurence Olivier.

She learned acting at the theater, where she remained until the end of her career.

She died on August 20, 1976, her husband Bunny Austin's 70th birthday. Austin died on his 94th birthday on August 20, 2000.
