Rita Repulsa's Power Rangers Backstory Is More Tragic Than You Realized
Image
Warning: Contains minor Spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once And AlwaysWhile Rita Repulsa is a tried-and-true Power Rangers franchise villain, her evil is explained by a truly tragic backstory. Although a rushed villain redemption arc can feel unearned and ham-fisted, Rita’s eventual purification and redemption came after several seasons of villainy and history with the Power Rangers and their mentor, Zordon. While suddenly flipping Rita’s allegiance from good to evil might have felt too sudden to work well, her life makes her road to the side of right all the more compelling, especially alongside Lord Zedd.

The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita Repulsa was an evil, intergalactic sorceress who attacked the Earth multiple times and assisted Lord Zedd with his evil plans. Rita remained an antagonist in this way for three seasons and was a major antagonist in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie...

Power Rangers’ Best Villain Wasn’t From Super Sentai
Image
Despite how the Power Rangers franchise draws much of its material from the Japanese series Super Sentai, the series’ best villain is not from its parent show. Power Rangers features a lot of enemies, some of which hail from its monster-of-the-week format, while others have more staying power. Oftentimes, Power Rangers pulls its weekly villains from the Super Sentai series, but then develops its ultimate antagonist for each season independently. This has allowed the series to tailor its cultural impact in America separate from its roots in Japan, helping make the Power Rangers franchise what it is today.

At its most basic level, each Power Rangers season tells the story of a group of people, often teenagers, chosen to battle the forces of evil by transforming into master combatants with signature weapons and robots. Each Ranger team faces its own weekly and season-arc villains, although the most popular antagonists also...

Power Rangers Reboot Villain Has Reportedly Been Revealed
It was officially announced last December that Paramount was working on a Power Rangers reboot, separate from the one Lionsgate made in 2017. We were told at the time that Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F—ing World) was attached to direct, with the story said to involve a Back to the Future-like scenario about modern-day Rangers getting stuck in the past. Specifically, the 1990s. That’s all that’s been confirmed so far, but further reports have now provided more insight.

The Illuminerdi has shared a glut of information on the movie, including who the villain of the reboot will be. It’s said that Lord Zedd will be terrorizing the mighty morphin teens this time around, which is exciting news for fans, as Zedd is one of the most popular antagonists in PR history. He’s also the natural choice for the film. 2017’s effort featured Rita Repulsa,...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993)
Power Rangers Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa Lightning Collection Action Figure 2-Pack Unveiled
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa has returned in action figure form to continue her efforts to finally conquer the earth, and she's brought her brainy husband Lord Zedd along with her. As revealed in a new retro-style video ad from Hasbro, an all-new Rita Repulsa action figure has been introduced as part of a 2-pack action figure set for the company's Power Rangers Lightning Collection line. Though Lord Zedd has previously been released as a solo figure, the 2-pack marks Rita's introduction into the toy line, and the detail given to the figure will instantly trigger nostalgic memories for longtime franchise fans.

The Rita Repulsa/Lord Zedd 2-pack releases this year to commemorate the 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary between the two Power Rangers villains. If you need a refresher, Zedd and Rita got hitched in the three-part Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode "The Wedding," which originally aired in...

‘Power Rangers’ Movie Reboot in Development at Paramount From Jonathan Entwistle
Elizabeth Banks, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, and RJ Cyler in Power Rangers (2017)
Another feature film reboot of the campy ’90s kids show “Power Rangers” is in the works, moving over to Paramount and Hasbro from Lionsgate, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Jonathan Entwistle, the creator of the series “The End of the F***ing World,” is in early negotiations to direct the film. Patrick Burleigh, who wrote “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,” will write the script. The new film will involve a time travel element in which modern day kids are sent back to the 1990s and are forced to find their way home.

The ’90s TV show, originally called “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” was inspired by a Japanese children’s show and was the story of five children who don colorful suits and helmets and would fight supervillains and giant, robot monsters by morphing into their own mech fighters.

Interview: Acting legend Mel Novak
Mel Novak is an action star who is best known for his performance as Stick the Assassin in Bruce Lee’s final film Game of Death (1978). Having starred in more than 60 feature films, he has given no indication that he is slowing down and following on for the success of Syndicate Smasher (2017) Mel has several new projects which are due for release soon. I got a chance to ask Mel as few questions about how he got into acting, doing his own fight scenes, stunts and whether there are any characters he like an opportunity to portray on screen again…

How did you first get into acting originally?

I had initially acted in some plays in school and a couple in local theatres. In La, I got a job with an insurance company as a bodily injury claims adjuster. It was there that I met a gal that set up...

Production wraps on ‘Tales of Frankenstein’
Production has just wrapped in Los Angeles on the horror film Tales of Frankenstein, starring Game of Death’s Mel Novak and Wolverine creator Len Wein in his final film. The movie is based upon four of writer-director Donald F. Glut’s (The Empire Strikes Back novel) short stories published in his book of the same name:

“My Creation, My Beloved,” (a deformed descendant of Victor Frankenstein creates the perfect man and woman), “Crawler from the Grave,” (another Frankenstein descendant’s disembodied, plague-infected arm returns from the grave for revenge), “Madhouse of Death” (a private detective winds up in an old dark house filled with loonies…and a gorilla) and “Dr. Karnstein’s Creation,” (a mad doctor creates a monster in vampire-haunted Transylvania – with gruesomely unexpected results).
