Magnus, Benjamin Ree’s documentary about chess player Magnus Carlsen featuring high profile grandmasters including Garry Kasparov, has sold to Germany (Nfp), Hong Kong (Edko films Ltd), former Yugoslavia (Discovery Film) and Benelux (September Film Rights).

Norwegian director takes the reins on A Conspiracy of Faith.
Veteran director Hans Petter Moland is take over Denmark’s third Department Q thriller, A Conspiracy of Faith (Flaskepost fra P), from Danish director Nikolaj Arcel.
Arcel, best known for directing A Royal Affair, wrote three scripts based on Jussi Adler Olsen’s Department Q novels.
The first two - The Keeper of Lost Causes (Kvinden i buret) and The Absent One (Fasandræberne) - were directed by Mikkel Nørgaard and proved major hits in Denmark in 2013 and 2014.
But although Arcel was due to step in to make the third part in Zentropa Entertainment’s franchise, Moland has taken his plance. Arcel has recently been working on numerous projects in the Us.
Danish producer and Zentropa ceo Peter Aalbæk Jensen told ScreenDaily: “He [Arcel] will still be busy in the States, when we start filming in May.”

The controversial Danish filmmaker’s Nymphomaniac: Director’s Cut scooped eight trophies including best feature and best director at the Danish Film Academy’s awards last night (Feb 1) – and von Trier was in attendance at the ceremony for the first time.
Accepting the Robert for best feature, von Trier said: “From Peter Aalbæk Jensen (his producing partner at Zentropa Entertainments), I know that some of the Robert awards are won by five votes, so I would like to thank those five persons in the auditorium. Thank you very much.”

The event, which ran from June 30 to July 3 within the capital’s public-focused Paris Cinema film festival, is aimed at connecting international filmmakers with French producers, sales agents and distributors.
“We’ve had 36 scheduled meetings in three days and fitted a few more in between,” said Roy Boulter, who is producing the picture alongside Solon Papadopoulos through their Liverpool-based Hurricane Films.
