From a Brooklyn New Yorker grandmother, Yolande de Grandis, a Swiss writer mother, Tootsie Guera, and a film producer father, Armand Barbault, Emilie and Sarah, who practically grew up on sets, were born into the French film industry.
Emilie was present - in their mother's belly - at the filming of The Wild Child (1970) by François Truffaut where their dad was a crew member. When she was three months old she played Antoine Doinel's baby - Alphonse - in Bed & Board (1970), also directed by François Truffaut.
Sarah was born during the shooting of Tout va bien (1972) directed by Jean-Luc Godard (their dad who was Godard's producer manager then, spent his time between the hospital and the production office which was across the street).
Emilie and Sarah moved a lot between France and Belgium, and a bit in the US. After graduation and several life options - Law school for Emilie, Graphic design for Sarah - the junction was made: cinema. They chose to make films.
Emilie is been married since October 17th, 2009. She has one daughter, Aurore Nizier.
