Before achieving sitcom legend status on Wkrp in Cincinnati, Loni Anderson was nearly cast as another classic comedy character from the 1970s. She was one of the actresses up for the part of Three’s Company’s Chrissy Snow, the character famously brought to life by Suzanne Somers.
Anderson, who passed away Sunday at the age of 79, was strongly considered for the role. John Ritter, for one, liked her audition. But in the book Come and Knock on Our Door, per The Hollywood Reporter, Ritter revealed that Anderson ultimately lost the part because she was “too beautiful, too savvy. No one would believe she couldn’t live in her own apartment, that she would have to struggle to get the rent paid.”
Considering the battles that Somers had with producers over pay raises, Anderson was better off on Wkrp, where she asked for — and got — a significant salary hike after...

The mid-2000s were a wild time in horror. From originals like Wolf Creek, High Tension, and the dawn of Saw, to a litany of dark Platinum Dunes remakes. Audiences made it very clear that we wanted it nasty. Then we wanted it even nastier at home on an “unrated” DVD in the months that followed. It’s very apropos then that this is the era when Rob Zombie: Director was born. Following up 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses, the rock star turned director was ready to shock audiences with depravity once more. Only this time, he didn’t want you to laugh uncomfortably at his sick circus. He wanted to suck all the cartoon air out of the room and make you feel the horror as if you were there. To do so would require him to push his actors to the limits of their minds darkest places,...

Rob Zombie has been one of the most polarizing figures in the horror community since making the leap from musician to filmmaker. He made his feature writing and directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses in 2003 — after being purchased by Lionsgate when its original studio, Universal, shelved it three years prior due to fears of it receiving a dreaded Nc-17 rating.
Corpses fell victim to many issues faced by first-time directors — Zombie was seemingly unsure if he’d ever get the opportunity to make another movie, resulting in an anarchic mélange of ideas and influences — but the end result remains potent all these years later. Despite the troubled production and a largely unfavorable critical response, the film turned a healthy profit, giving Zombie the sinister urge to make a sequel as his sophomore effort.
Released 20 years ago today, The Devil’s Rejects is decidedly more grounded in reality than its heightened predecessor.

"I wonder if I ever really, truly knew him at all?" Dbs Films & Buffalo Speedway Film have revealed the first look official trailer for Mr. Wonderful, a new film from director Mark David. It's premiering at film festivals soon and doesn't have a final release set yet but they're releasing this anyway. Sadly the film now features the final performance from the terrific actor Michael Madsen, who just passed away a few weeks ago. They want to share this trailer anyway with Madsen's fans. "Experience a story that spans generations and touches the heart of what it means to be family." Mr. Wonderful tells the story of three generations of men – a millennial on the run from a drug dealer; his father, a jaded professor trying to keep his job; and the family patriarch fighting senility – struggling to find meaning in life as well as their connection to each other.

When Roseanne Barr was fired from the rebooted Roseanne in 2018, the producers decided that, in order to continue, the series would need to change. Instead of the sarcastic loudmouth Roseanne Conner as the center of her family, John Goodman’s Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf’s Jackie Harris and Sara Gilbert’s Darlene Conner stepped in to fill the void, making it a show with a bit less attitude and an increased focus on grief in light of Barr’s character’s death. These changes allowed the show — now rebranded as The Conners — to last for seven seasons.
However, not all shows are smart enough to fully pivot after a cast departure. Instead, many just end up replacing that person with a new character who has pretty much the exact same personality. The hope, presumably, is to keep whatever dynamics a show already possesses.

The passing of Shannen Doherty has many of her friends in mourning. Among them is Kevin Smith, the film director who became friends with Doherty three decades ago during the production of Mallrats.
On Sunday, it was announced that Doherty had died after living with cancer since 2015. She was just 53 years old. Hours after the announcement, Smith took to Instagram to share a handful of images of himself with Doherty, both from the 1990s along with a more recent reunion. The director went on to credit Doherty for getting Mallrats made, feeling grateful that she happened to pick his movie to be a part of coming off of the immense success of Beverly Hills, 90210.

Secret agents going rogue is such a common trope that sometimes we wish that people like Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne would just follow their orders for change. When Daniel Craig started playing James Bond in 2006, it seemed like Bond went rogue on nearly every single mission, including most of Quantum of Solace, at least half of Skyfall, and basically, the first two-thirds of No Time To Die. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond went rogue in Die Another Day, too, with a full beard and no shirt, declaring “I’m checking out” from a hospital. And of course, Connery’s Bond was on an unsanctioned revenge mission at the start of Diamonds Are Forever.
But the most compelling Bond-goes-rogue movie of them all to this day remains Licence to Kill, which in 1989, would become the unintended swan song from Timothy Dalton’s fierce take on the character.

Suzanne Somers, known for her role on Three's Company, has passed away at the age of 76. Somers died of breast cancer, which she had been living with for 23 years. She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Alan Hamel, and leaves behind a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
Suzanne Somers has passed away. The actor is perhaps best known for her role on the iconic sitcom Three's Company, which ran for eight seasons between 1977 and 1984. She played Christmas "Chrissy" Snow for the first five seasons before being fired amid backstage drama after she was refused a raise by producers. Although she was replaced by Jenilee Harrison as Cindy Snow, who was then replaced by Priscilla Barnes as Terri Alden, of those three her name is still the one that is most synonymous with the show, which also starred John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt as her roommates.

James Bond is one of the most beloved cinematic heroes of all-time; its impressive that after six decades, excitement about the 007 series is just as high today as it was during the premiere of Dr. No. While Bond fans each have their favorite installments in the series, they’re also divided in terms of which actor they feel embodies the character from Ian Fleming’s novels the best. Sean Connery’s iconic performance fleshed out Bond’s charisma, intelligence, and loyalty to MI6, but the goofier interpretation that Roger Moore delivered has an equal amount of support from the fan community. In the last two decades, Daniel Craig’s performance has become iconic in its own right; Craig’s films are certainly the darkest in the entire franchise so far.

Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.
Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

Back in May, writer-director Kevin Smith revealed that he had finished the script for his sequel to Mallrats, entitled MallBrats, with most of the main cast from the original comedy already confirmed to return. That was the last update we had on the project, until today, when Kevin Smith announced that filming will begin in January 2016, at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania. Kevin Smith is making good on his promise to deliver Mallrats 2 as his next film, announcing today that the first draft of the screenplay is finished and that the official title of the movie is MallBrats. While the writer/director didn't offer any new plot details, the title surely hints that the original characters will be bringing some of their children into the mix this time around. The filmmaker also used this moment to remember original Mallrats producer Jim Jacks. He says:
"20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends & new jokes. This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here. #MallBrats"
Jim Jacks had always wanted to make a sequel to the original Mallrats. Saldy, he passed away a little over a year ago. His untimely death helped motivate and push to see the film become a reality. At this time, the sequel does not have a release date.

Director Kevin Smith continues to add more and more cast members for his upcoming sequel Mallrats 2, with original Mallrats stars Joey Lauren Adams (Gwen), Renée Humphrey (Trish) and Sven-Ole Thorsen (Lafours) coming back to reprise their roles. They join director/star Kevin Smith (Silent Bob), Jason Mewes (Jay), Ethan Suplee (William), Jason Lee (Brodie), Stan Lee (Himself), Michael Rooker (Mr Svenning), Shannen Doherty (Rene) and Jeremy London (T.S. Quint). What's interesting is it seems the director is bringing even more actors from Mallrats on board than originally planned.
When Kevin Smith revealed that Jeremy London was coming back last week, his tweet said "8 down, 4 to go," implying that he has four more Mallrats cast members left to add. However, when the director announced Sven-Ole Thorsen's casting today, he said, "11 down, now 4 to go." Two of the main Mallrats cast members that have not been confirmed yet are...

A hurricane is the least of everyone’s problems as Chapter Ten kicks off on The CW
“Jane The Virgin” not only left off in the midseason finale with some crazy cliffhangers, the show itself went on to win a Golden Globe for star Gina Rodriguez in the meantime, and was subsequently renewed for Season 2.
But back in the fictional, soapy world of Jane Villanueva, things aren’t going quite so smoothly – for anyone. With a hurricane bearing down on Miami, the drama goes into hyperdrive.

Hello, and welcome to The Best Of Number Two here at The Liberal Dead. We haven’t done any kind of theme for a long time, so I thought I would reach out to some some talented people from other sites, and see if we can put something together. I decided it would be a theme about the best second films in a franchise/series. Expect discussion about Metamorhosis: The Alien Factor, The Devil’s Rejects, C.H.U.D. II, Blade II, Sleepaway Camp II, Amityville 2, Island of the Fishmen, The Dark Knight, Final Destination 2, House II and more.
Rob Zombie is a polarizing filmmaker, to say the least. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny is his ambition. The longtime musician made his feature directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses. Although filmed in 2000, the movie didn’t hit theaters until 2003. Corpses fell victim to many issues that first-time directors face,...

This weekend’s B-Sides is the theme song to the 1992 direct-to-video action movie Talons of the Eagle. This song is not for your listening pleasure. This song is a dare – a challenge. Can you listen to the whole thing from beginning to end?
I have never seen Talons of the Eagle. Kind of surprising given it starred Billy Blanks and I was all about those cheesy direct-to-video action movies around the time this came out. The Devil's Rejects' Priscilla Barnes co-stars, and here’s the plot according to the IMDb:
After three DEA agents are killed by Mr. Li (James Hong), martial arts champion Tyler Wilson (Blanks) is sent on assignment to Toronto and teams up with Michael Reed (Jalal Merhi). Wilson and Reed enter a martial arts tournament, where they end up saving Mr. Li from being killed by a rival crime boss. Li invites the two to join his staff.

Hey there, Fiends! Another day... another scream in The Dungeon! This time we set the table for one of the first "Final Girls", The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's Sally Hardesty, Marilyn Burns!
Marilyn spoke with Amy and me about working with Tobe Hooper, how she feels about being called a "Scream Queen", Helter Skelter, being part of the newest Massacre, and so much more!
I have some crazy awesome news as well! First, I am going to be in a werewolf movie directed by F/X aficionado Scott Kodrik! The film is called Hell, Michigan, and it will star Bill Moseley, Michael Berryman, Priscilla Barnes, and possibly even Linnea Quigley. Speaking of whom, we are so excited for her joining our "Terror Team" beginning this week! You will now get the chance to hear your most beloved Queen every Saturday!
That's it for us. Join us this week when...

We're not kidding. Ron Jeremy. And he plays a pornographer.
We're following director Susanna Lo's film Manson Girls, which focuses on Charles Manson's follower Sandra Good, who is played by the talented Thora Birch, quite closely, and the director informs us that two new cast members, the beloved Priscilla Barnes and the crazy Ron Jeremy, are both playing dramatic roles in the biopic.
Priscilla Barnes, who horror film fans will recognize from Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects is "Mrs. Atkins", follower Sadie Atkin's mom (did we forget to mention that talented Heather Matarazzo will be playing Sadie Atkins?) and former porn actor Ron Jeremy will be doing a cameo as Van Guylder, the director of the porn film The Ramrodder which two Manson followers, Catherine Share (aka "Gypsy") and Bobby Beausoleil, starred in together.

Now that Charlie Sheen is officially fired from his gig as Charlie Harper on Two and a Half Men, producers must decide if they're going to shut down the show completely, or if they can find some creative way of moving forward. We're voting for a forward march, not least because Jack and Janet did Three's Company for years without Chrissy. (We just need to find Two and a Half Men for Priscilla Barnes!) So whose names are being dropped as Sheen replacements in the press? Who's your pick for a quality contender for a Men reboot? We've got some ideas below—Will Arnett has already perfected a self-involved blowhard schtick, and we just want him back on our TVs—but...

In May of 2007 (just prior to the nation’s economic collapse), this writer visited the set of the Bogner Entertainment and Trailer Park Partners production Trailer Park of Terror, a Southern-fried fright flick directed by country-music video director-turned feature filmmaker Steven Goldmann. Produced by Jonathan Bogner and Ralph Singleton (Pet Semetary) and based on the Imperium Comics of the same name, Trailer Park of Terror premiered the following year at Slamdance ’08, and was released to DVD that October via Summit Entertainment.
Starring Lew Temple and Priscilla Barnes (The Devil’s Rejects) and Nichole Hiltz, Duane Whitaker (Feast), Ed Corbin and Michelle Lee (among others), Trailer Park of Terror, regardless of its playfully sadistic EC Comics-vibe and inspired makeup designs by Todd Tucker, didn’t cause the waves its producers had predicted, and due to such, unfortunately derailed the planned feature franchise and television and comic book series. Perplexing, given the gonzo cocktail of sex,...

On January 8, 2011, this writer took a trip up La Tuna Canyon just outside Sun Valley, CA, for a visit to Frank Ippolito’s then-shooting short film "Night of the Little Dead" (set visit and photos coming soon) and while there chatted with one of that film’s stars, genre vet Bill Moseley, who talked up a few of his other horror projects, including Susanna Lo’s upcoming feature Manson Girls.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said the actor, who is familiar to horror fans for his turn as ‘Choptop’ in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as well as for his portrayal of ‘Otis’ in the Rob Zombie films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, of his role in Manson Girls. “It is kind of funny to have these brushes with Charles Manson over the years. What a decade. Talk about an insane ten years. In it we've seen sequels top originals, remakes up the ante, and a precious few bits of original content do what all quality cinema does -- become instant classics. Join us now for a look back at the decade that was 2000-2009!
Being that Foy covered the worst of the decade already (and who better to do so?), we collectively voted on the best so this truly is Dread Central's definitive list. Now let's get to it, starting with the title that garnered the fewest votes all the way up to the one that got the most.
10: The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Well before the much abused re-imaginings known as Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II were conceived by the unpredictable writer/director, he was honing his craft on a taut and dark little film called The Devil's Rejects. While Rejects is...

Fango heard from busy indie-horror actor Joe Zaso, who’s done a number of New York-area and overseas fright flicks and recently made a trip to La to co-star in a sci-fi chiller called H1N1: Virus X. He sent along a couple of photos (see them below) and comments on the currently lensing movie, directed by first-timer Ryan Stevens Harris.
Executive-produced by Domiziano Arcangeli (of Orgy Of Blood, which we previously reported on here) and veteran B-meister David S. Sterling and co-starring The Devil’S Rejects’ Priscilla Barnes, H1N1: Virus X casts Zaso as Dr. Gravaman, an evil scientist who performs twisted experiments on human guinea pigs. It’s “not too far a stretch” from the types of roles Zaso has been regularly playing lately, he tells us: “This seems to be the year of the troublemaking doctor roles for me. First was Braincell, which was...

For sweltering August, which is the best way to bring to mind the opiate-addicted romance of the Romantic poet hunks like Keats, Coleridge, Shelley, and of course, the syphilitic-but-sexy Lord Byron? By checking out a sexy horror writer! Scott Norton is the modern day equivalent of a gothic romance hero; except that he’s nothing like one. Between writing his successful horror fiction like HorrorCon and sWitch, he’s busy being a dude playing in a band and bewitching the world with his wit and charm. Oddly enough, this hunk spends most of his time indoors writing frightening things; think of him as the ‘Ted Bundy’ of horror – he’s funny and charming and you’d probably get in his car if you were hitchhiking, but there’s just something a little ‘off’. Is it merely that he’s from some ocean seaside-place with the wind blowing and the sand perfect for burying your corpse?...

Three
Bigger Picture
NEW YORK -- A psycho-killer movie featuring less gore and more moral and religious philosophizing pretty much sums up "Three", adapted from the best-selling novel by Ted Dekker. This family-friendly thriller -- with a villain bearing somewhat of a resemblance to Jigsaw in the "Saw" series with his penchant for putting his victims through mind games and riddles before committing his mayhem -- is being marketed by Fox Faith, 20th Century Fox's Christian-themed label, but it seems unlikely that it will attract many of the faithful.
The film's hero is Kevin Parson (Marc Blucas), a young seminary student who seems to have an unknown connection to Slater (Bill Moseley), otherwise known as RK, or the "riddle killer." Kevin's first encounter with him is literally explosive, as he answers a cell phone that has been placed in his car only to hear a distorted voice telling him that unless he can solve a riddle in three minutes he will be blown up. Failing to pass the test, he manages to escape just in time.
Thus begins the inevitable cat-and-mouse game, with Kevin forced to undergo a series of such tests and the price for failure being more death and destruction. Helping him wade through the mystery, which apparently involves his upbringing by an abusive aunt (Priscilla Barnes), are a criminal psychologist (Justine Waddell) with a tragic personal connection with the killer, as well as Kevin's former childhood sweetheart (Laura Jordan).
The fairly routine plot is made somewhat more interesting by the infusion of issues regarding morality and faith, but ultimately "Three", for all its philosophizing, is little more than a standard serial-killer movie with pretensions.
