TV show romance can be hard to pull off, as fans have polarizing opinions about what characters should end up together. However, it's always gratifying when an unexpected romance turns out to be a hit with fans, proving that the characters have a spark. Whether it's an enemies-to-lovers relationship or the two characters seem like polar opposites, the last thing any viewer thinks is that these people would get together and that the romance would be good for them. However, it's often the most unpredictable romance that turns out to be the most effective.
However, in some cases, audiences did see these relationships coming and opposed them from the beginning because they felt the characters didn't fit together. While some TV show couples never should have dated, these couples successfully proved audiences wrong by overcoming their differences and making amends for the ways they hurt each other in the past.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special, "Joy to the World."
"Joy to the World" adds a massive piece of canon into the Doctor Who universe that subtly explains one of the abilities of John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness. Although the story of the 2024 Christmas special sweeps aside its pivotal piece of sci-fi lore, the magnitude of the introduction and its impact on the larger universe can't be ignored. As one of the best Doctor Who companions not from present-day Earth, Jack brought something very interesting to the position, but his pre-installed backstory left some intriguing gaps. Thankfully, one of the more compelling blank spots has now been partially filled.
Barrowman played Jack during Russell T Davies' first stint as the Doctor Who showrunner, and he enjoyed a brief return to the role alongside Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor during the Chris Chibnall era. Perhaps most significantly,...

The 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special marked Steven Moffat's final stint as a writer on the legendary British series, and he found numerous interesting ways to communicate that in the episode, including referencing his first Doctor Who episode. Scottish television writer Steven Moffat got involved with Doctor Who long before the rebooted series even launched in 2005. Doctor Who season 14 bore the hallmark of Moffat's writing in the "Boom" episode and the Christmas Special signaled Moffat's huge influence on the entire franchise with one smart and subtle Easter egg.
Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa has triumphantly led Doctor Who season 14 as the Fifteenth Doctor, with his first appearance on the show in the last episode of the 2023 60th anniversary specials. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Doctor Who's 2024 Christmas special, "Joy to the World."Doctor Who's Villengard holds a compelling place in the franchise's canon, with some of the information needing to be gleaned from context rather than being directly explained within the show. However, the nefarious organization poses a huge threat to the Doctor and the universe at large. Although not every actor to play the Doctor has had a run-in with Villengard, the show's timeline strongly suggests that the Time Lord has been at odds with the villainous body for a very long time. In the real world, 2024 marked a huge upturn in how prominent Villengard had become in the saga.

A recent trend that has been appearing in many popular movies and TV shows is the idea of alternate universes; that is, different realities which contrast heavily with the established world thanks to at least one key change occurring somewhere in the past. Movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have dedicated themselves to diving deep into the idea, exploring numerous alternate realities that could have existed just as easily as the ones the characters live in.
However, while many major motion pictures have been entirely focused on this idea, there are also numerous TV shows that have diverged from their main narrative in order to consider alternate realities as well. After all, it can be very enjoyable for the creators and actors of the show to consider how different the lives of their characters could have been. The anticipation for Lulu’s return on General Hospital is high. After a bomb destroyed the Floating Rib restaurant in 2020, Lulu — then played by Emme Rylan — ended up in a coma. Ever since, she has been in a long-term care facility. But the meds she was given took a toll on her liver. So, she underwent a risky transplant operation. The donor, Sam, died from a heart attack while in recovery, and Lulu’s mom, Laura, has been begging her daughter to emerge from her comatose state. Lulu’s return is imminent, and we now know when Alexa Havins will officially take on the role. And it’s just around the corner.
The Time Is Imminent
Because Sam (Kelly Monaco) died and the hospital wants to transfer Lulu back to the care facility, Laura has been at her daughter’s side begging for her to awaken so that Sam’s death would mean something.

Many controversial twists in TV shows divided their respective fandoms, and while some hated a particular storyline, others were in favor of it. The best TV shows of all time, at one time or another, introduced a twist that left audiences baffled, whether that was in a good or bad way. However, there were also instances in which a TV show plot twist was so wild that viewers argued over it long after its broadcast.
From deaths to pregnancies, certain shows wrote stories or moments that the fandom interpreted in different ways. This created a huge community discussion that caused members to debate back and forth over whether it worked, was in character, or if it even made sense. Regardless of whether it was a brief moment or a monumental occasion, these controversial twists divided its audience base.

The 21st century has been an era of sequels, reboots, and spinoffs. While these projects have saturated the market for many years, some are worth checking out. One of the reasons that a spinoff could find unexpected success without imitating the original movie or TV show is by incorporating darker and more intense storylines. Since a spinoff doesn't have the pressure and expectations that the original film or series might face, it can experiment with style and tone to exciting results. A good spinoff will root itself within the story's universe while working to stand alone as an individual project.
When many of the best legacy movie sequels differentiate themselves by going down a darker path, this could mean that more mature and adult themes will play a large part in the project. This makes sense, as when a TV show takes on a more serious tone, more emotional strife...

Exclusive: The BBC has dismissed viewer complaints about an episode of Doctor Who featuring a historic gay kiss between Ncuti Gatwa and Jonathan Groff.
Two disgruntled audience members took issue with the “inappropriate sexual innuendo” that developed between Gatwa’s Time Lord and Groff’s bounty hunter, Rogue, in a Bridgerton-inspired story.
The viewers said the Season 14 episode, titled ‘Rogue,’ featured content that was “unsuitable for children.” One person added that the speed of the Doctor and Rogue’s connection was “concerning.”
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (Ecu) threw out the concerns. In a ruling on Thursday, the unit said the sexual innuendo was mild and suitable for Doctor Who’s young audience.
“The Ecu considered the sexual innuendo to be towards the mildest end of the spectrum and in any case likely to go over the heads of children,” the Ecu said.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies explains how the Doctor has forbidden Unit from time travel experiments. Unit's latest time travel innovation sheds light on previously unexplored historical research. The Time Window chamber offers a unique way to look into the past without physically traveling through time.
Russell T Davies explains how Unit's latest attempt at crafting their form of time travel via the Time Window fits into the organization's long-running Doctor Who history. Debuting during the Second Doctor's (Patrick Troughton) era, Unit has safeguarded the Earth from extraterrestrial threat since 1958 and is currently headed by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) from their London skyscraper HQ. After a brief appearance in "73 Yards'" alternate timeline, the organization returned in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" as Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday use the Time Window to glimpse at the night of Ruby's abandonment.

Doctor Who has included LGBTQ+ content since its 2005 reboot, with same-sex kisses being showcased in various episodes. The series has evolved to be more inclusive, featuring openly queer characters like Captain Jack Harkness and Bill Potts. Recent romantic scenes between the Doctor and same-sex partners like Rogue mark a new milestone in LGBTQ+ representation.
The recent kiss between Doctor Who's Rogue and the Doctor was not the only same-sex kiss in the long-running series' history. One significant way the 2005 reboot differs from the classic series is in its inclusion of LGBTQ+ content. The long-running sci-fi series debuted in 1963, before homosexuality was legal in the United Kingdom, and during its early years it would not have been acceptable for a family-friendly program to have any romantic scenes between the title character and anyone, especially not someone of the same sex. This led many actors who played Doctor Who to declare the character was asexual.

Warning: Contains spoilers for ‘Rogue’
This first series of Doctor Who’s latest reboot has been a lot of things — silly (‘Space Babies’), spectacular (‘The Devil’s Chord’), intense (‘Boom’), scary (‘73 Yards’), and, by the end of last week’s Black Mirror aping ‘Dot And Bubble’, pretty damn bleak even too. But not since Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson’s first outing as the Doctor and Ruby Sunday, ‘The Church On Ruby Road’, have we had an episode as outrageously fun Regency-era romp ‘Rogue’. Poured from the pens of guest writers Kate Herron and Briony Redman, this week’s adventure is good old-fashioned monster-of-the-week Who with a deliciously queer twist.
Leaving Finetime well behind, ‘Rogue’ finds the Doctor and Ruby in early 19th-century Bath, enjoying a ball at the stately mansion home of the Duchess of Pemberton (a suitably hissable Indira Varma). All britches, bodices, “You cad!” admonishments, and anachronistic...

Doctor Who made history Saturday evening, with the Time Lord having his first ever explicitly romantic same-sex kiss on screen.
The episode, set in the British Regency period of 1813, saw Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor team up with bounty hunter Rogue, played by Jonathan Groff. The characters were initially mistrusting of each other, but had to team up to fight the shape-shifting Chuldurs.

Mischievously flirting throughout the episode, shocking the other guests at the Regency ball with same-sex dancing, their united effort finally saw Rogue sacrifice himself to save the world, but not before he had given the Doctor a goodbye kiss.
John Barrowman’s Captain Jack briefly kissed Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor in a 2005 episode, but that encounter lacked the sexual charge of the Time Lord’s encounter with Rogue. And Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor had an implied romantic connection with her female companion Yaz (played by...

The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. Warning: Contains Spoilers for Doctor Who, season 14, episode 3, "Boom".
Steven Moffat's return to Doctor Who after 7 years is filled with deep-cut references from his previous stories. "Boom" draws parallels to Moffat's classic Doctor Who episodes while incorporating themes of fatherhood and faith. The episode includes callbacks to Moffat's past work, such as Villengard and the Church.
Doctor Who season 14, episode 3, "Boom" is Steven Moffat's first script in seven years, and continues multiple Easter eggs from his previous stories. As a former Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat was both writer and executive producer on "Boom", his first of two confirmed scripts for Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor. Although it's advertized as Doctor Who season 1 by Disney, Ncuti Gatwa's first season has already been packed full of deep-cut references to everything from the Rani (Kate O'Mara) to the fictional band Chris Waites and the Carollers from Doctor Who's very first episode.

One of the most beloved and long-running British Sci-Fi TV shows may be setting up the return of a fan-favorite character in a spin-off series on Disney+.
This has been the plan from the start, that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who production era will feature multiple spin-off series and movies.
The newest Doctor Who era has Ncuti Gatwa taking the reigns as the pivotal character in the show, aka Doctor Who, and bringing a new, fresh take.
This is what makes the Doctor Who universe last as long as it has, as every couple of years, the Doctor and other characters on the show will get a revamp with new actors. This also means that older stories and plots can be revisited with new ideas and even newer and sometimes old faces.

Captain Jack Harkness becomes the Face of Boe in Doctor Who, a transformation that is not officially confirmed but can be traced back to the character's death and revival in season 1. Fan theories suggest that Jack's transformation into the Face of Boe involves decapitation or the effects of exhaust fumes, but the true reason remains unknown. Being the Face of Boe reframes Jack Harkness's story, highlighting the theme of immortality in Doctor Who and positioning Jack as a significant figure in the universe. Both David Tennant and John Barrowman were excited about this plot twist behind the scenes.

First introduced during the Christopher Eccleston era, John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness is a lovable rogue - a Time Agent turned conman that the Doctor manages to put back on the right path. Doctor Who spinoffs are rare because the Doctor is often the best part of the series and taking him out would not improve the show. Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures were previous Doctor Who spinoffs that did not heavily feature the Doctor, but did include appearances by past iterations of the character. Future Doctor Who spinoffs may incorporate more of the Doctor, and it remains to be seen if former stars will return to reprise their roles.
Former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat explains why spinoffs are rare for the long-running program. The British series follows the Doctor, a traveler through time and space along with human companions. The character, a Time Lord from the distant planet Gallifrey, is known to regenerate and has been portrayed by several actors, including William Hartnell, Tom Baker, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker, and soon Ncuti Gatwa. New Year's is the perfect time to binge-watch shows, but choose ones that can be completed within the time frame. Look for captivating shows that are not necessarily holiday-themed to add variety to your watch list. Consider shows like Torchwood, God Friended Me, and Lie to Me, which have fewer episodes and are suitable for a binge-watch before the new year.
New Year's, the coziest time of the year, is nigh, and it is the season for bingeing favorite comfort shows as well as discovering new amazing series. Seeing as it is exactly 45 days until New Year's Day, it is important to choose a show that could easily be completed within this time frame. This means that starting Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House, M.D., or How I Met Your Mother with the intent of finishing them by January 1 would not be the wisest decision. Per creator Russell T. Davies, the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood may have a chance of revival, but not anytime soon. Davies revealed during a Q&a that there are currently no plans for the Torchwood Institute to appear on Doctor Who. While it's not a promise, Davies expressed his love for Torchwood and said they will think about bringing it back in some capacity.
The possibility of a Torchwood revival has been addressed by its creator. The show was a spinoff from Doctor Who focusing on the exploits of the alien hunters at the Torchwood Institute, especially Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles). Though the show was never officially cancelled and continues as an audio drama, it went off the air in 2011 after four seasons.

The actors strike is over, and news has emerged that a biopic of Elon Musk, directed by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, is in the works. The movie from A24 is to be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of Musk.
So the guessing game is on: Who would best capture the essence of the mercurial, meme-loving tech mogul on the big screen?
It won’t surprise you to learn that the internet has already chewed over this question. In a recent Reddit thread, commenters’ top-voted casting picks for Musk were: Nicolas Cage, Rami Malek, Robert Downey Jr. and Jesse Eisenberg (the last being a troll’s pick: Eisenberg starred as Musk rival Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network”).
Other suggestions from sundry corners of the web have included Brendan Fraser (who incidentally starred in Aronofsky’s “The Whale”); Matt LeBlanc of “Friends” fame; Scottish-American actor John Barrowman; Kevin Durand; and Matthew Broderick.

Ah, Ready Steady Cook – you were a product of simpler times. The BBC’s teatime TV cooking show saw two contestants bring along a bag of ingredients, team up with a celebrity chef, (becoming Team Green Pepper and Team Red Tomato) and spend 20 minutes transforming what they’d brought into a tasty dinner.
They only had a maximum budget of £5 (which these days would probably only stretch to half a cucumber and a pot noodle) so the dishes weren’t fancy – none of this nonsense about serving some daft gravy-with-notions and calling it a ‘jus’. No, the likes of Ainsley Harriott or Anthony Worrall Thompson usually just hastily assembled a lasagne, and then the audience voted for a winner – and by ‘vote’, we mean they lifted up a picture of a green pepper or a red tomato.

Russell T. Davies decided to focus more on human stories after he relaunched Doctor Who in 2005. Due to consistently poor viewership ratings, the BBC's Head of Series, Peter Cregeen, decided to cancel Doctor Who after its 26th season in 1989, leaving the fate of the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and Ace (Sophie Aldred) up to interpretation. Though the BBC and Fox tried to revive the series with a 1996 TV movie featuring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, it wasn't until 2005 that Doctor Who came back with a vengeance, introducing Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor and his now-iconic companion, Rose Tyler (Billie Piper).
While the classic run of Doctor Who often saw the Doctor travel to spectacular alien worlds and focused on extraterrestrial characters, Davies' initial era of the show, which ran between 2005 and 2010 featuring two different Doctors over four seasons, centered on human stories. Rumors have emerged of plans for a Doctor Who spinoff based on the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, a.k.a. Unit, which could be the perfect set-up for a franchise based on the long-running sci-fi show. Unit have become a recurring feature of Doctor Who since they were first established in the 1968 serial "The Invasion". When the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) was exiled to Earth in 1970, he worked as Unit's scientific advisor, and the military institution led by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney) became a beloved part of the show's mythology.
Because of the fans' fondness for Unit, multiple spinoffs have been attempted on audio over the years, including the continuing adventures of the 21st Century version of Unit led by the Brigadier's daughter, Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave). Returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has finally confirmed spinoffs are officially in the works. The future is bright for Doctor Who, the world's longest-running science-fiction TV show. Davies - the man responsible for its 2005 relaunch - has returned as showrunner, with Ncuti Gatwa cast as the Fourteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday. Doctor Who has typically had something of a shoestring budget, but now it's being bolstered by unprecedented co-production and distribution deals with Bad Wolf Studios and Disney+. The franchise is now being marketed as the "Whoniverse," which naturally has fanned rumors of spinoffs.

Desperate Housewives has a shockingly high body count. The comedy-drama, set on the iconic fictional street Wisteria Lane, ran for eight seasons on ABC from 2004 until 2012. Created by Marc Cherry, Desperate Housewives focuses on a series of mysteries affecting the families who live on Wisteria Lane through the lens of Mary Alice Young (Starship Troopers' Brenda Strong), who dies by suicide in the pilot episode, and acts as the narrator for the rest of the show. It's a great (and somewhat confusing) time to be a Whovian. Although Ncuti Gatwa has been announced as the next Doctor, and Millie Gibson's been announced as the next companion, these are not the main characters we'll be following as we head into the 60th Anniversary Specials. Instead, those three special episodes will be focused on the return of the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), who is now technically the Fourteenth Doctor too. There's also the return of Donna Noble to look out for, as well as the return of the old showrunner Russell T. Davies, who ran the revival show from seasons 1 through 4.
The one thing we know for sure is that, when those specials are over, we will get a regular season with Gatwa and Gibson. With Davies sticking around as showrunner, you'd think it'd be safe to say that most of the returning characters would be from those early seasons.

Warning: Contains major spoilers for Doctor Who ‘The Power of the Doctor’
News is emerging that the owners of Durdle Door aren’t too happy about their historic landmark being the scene of the thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration in Doctor Who.
Over four million of us tuned in on Sunday night to watch Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor shockingly regenerate into David Tennant in the climax of her final episode, ‘The Power of the Doctor’. It was one of the most anticipated TV moments of the year, and – judging from the reactions on Twitter – the Whovians went wild, essentially becoming the personification of the ‘screaming, crying, throwing up’ meme.
Although many fans were possibly so beside themselves about Tennant’s return that they barely registered where the scene was filmed, this particularly scenic regeneration took place on top of the famous Durdle Door arch near Lulworth in Dorset. However, the owners...

This article contains spoilers for the Doctor Who Centenary Special, The Power of the Doctor.
In their final episode, Doctor Who failed the romance subplot between the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her companion Yaz (Mandip Gill). The Doctor Who Centenary Special, "The Power of the Doctor," almost completely ignores the romance that has been blooming between the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz, in favor of an abundance of action scenes and a plethora of fan service. While the action sequences are fun and the appearances from many classic Doctors and companions are more than welcome, the Doctor Who Centenary Special's ending for the relationship between Yaz and the Thirteenth Doctor is disappointing and lacking in closure.
The romance between the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz is far from the first time that a romantic relationship has been teased between The Doctor and their companions on the show: the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann...

Actor Kevin Spacey began his testimony in his sexual assault lawsuit in New York on Monday and gave on-record responses to the accusations outlined against him by fellow actor Anthony Rapp.
Rapp accuses Spacey of touching him inappropriately in a Manhattan party when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26, and is seeking 40 million in damages.
Spacey is accused of inviting the young actor to a private room, when he then lifted up Rapp “like a groom carrying a bride over the threshold,” and then laid him on a bed and climbed on top of him. Rapp also said in his testimony that he quickly squirmed out and left the apartment.
Spacey called this accusation “not true.”
In his version of the story, he encountered Rapp and actor John Barrowman after a play Spacey appeared in, Long Days Journey Into Night. He claimed he invited the two of them to dinner, a nightclub and his studio,...

Kevin Spacey remained composed Tuesday during cross-examination at a civil trial, repeatedly rejecting suggestions that he wasn’t telling the truth when he denied an actor’s claims that he made a sexual advance on him when he was 14 in the 1980s.
His testimony for several hours on cross-examination by a lawyer for actor Anthony Rapp, 50, went smoothly enough that Spacey’s lawyer did not ask any questions after the examination was completed by early afternoon. Rapp testified earlier in the trial, now in its third week. He is seeking 40 million in damages.
Addressing Rapp’s lawyer as “sir,” Spacey didn’t seem rattled a day after he emotionally testified that he regretted following the advice of his handlers to be “friendly and cordial” in responding to Rapp’s claims in 2017 that Spacey picked him up and briefly laid on top of him...
