Viennese author of some fifty novels. Emigrated to the U.S., became an American citizen and enjoyed her greatest success with "Grand Hotel" (1930), filmed by MGM in 1932.
Played harp with the symphony orchestra of the Vienna Conservatory, 1904-10. Played harp for the Hoftheater in Darmstadt, 1912-16.
Began her writing career worked as a journalist for the 'Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung'.
