Chubby, curly-haired British character actor and playwright, as well as movie and theatre critic. Worked as a BBC correspondent during the war years, afterwards alternating comic and dramatic performances as nervously befuddled businessmen, clergy, upper-class toffs or military officers. Had a hit play with "Boys in Brown".

Father: Percival C. Beckwith; Mother: Clara A. Dempsey.

An artist of great versatility he also crossed over into the world of theatre criticism with both The Spectator and Time and Tide.

Regnald Beckwith was born in York in 1908 and made his film debut in Freedom Radio in 1940 which was followed by such films as "Scott of the Antarctic", "The Million Pound Note", "The Captain's Table" and "The V.I.P.s".
