Tim grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of Dorothy and George Bolton Bess. He married third-grade school teacher Leshia Ann Batson on December 8, 1984 and they continued to make their home in Nashville. They had one son, George William Bess. He worked as a grip, electrician on Nashville Beat (1989), The Exorcist III (1990), Leatherheads (2008) and on the production crew of the TV series Nashville (2015). When Nashville ended its six season run in January 2018, the closing credits acknowledged his death. Tim died on November 7, 2017 at a Nashville hospital. He was cremated and his ashes were given to his wife.
