- [Talking about filming Spider-Man (2002) with Sam Raimi] Willem Dafoe and Tobey Maguire were great to work with, and so was Sam Raimi. What a gentleman - always there for you, and so helpful. I wanted to be in Spider-Man 2 (2004) even though I was killed in the first one. I called Sam and said, "I'll dye my hair, I'll wear a wig--I'll even wear a dress. I would love to work with you again." He was so kind, but he said he couldn't bring back my character, Mr. Balkan, because he had died on screen. So that was that, but it was great to work with him.
- [Explaining the longevity of his career] Passion and ambition. I remember when I was 10 years old, my mother took me to see Wuthering Heights (1939), and I saw Laurence Olivier on the screen. And I said to myself, "I will never do anything else in my life but that. I want to be an actor." That film changed my life as well.
