Australian journalist who worked for the San Francisco Examiner from 1961 to 1977. In 1965, she became the first female reporter from an American newspaper ever to go behind the Bamboo Curtain into China. She took advantage of her Australian birth and passport and obtained a visa through Australian acquaintances, entering China with an Australian group.
