Did the creators of Malcolm in the Middle always have us fooled? Although the long-running sitcom technically has Frankie Muniz in every episode, the actor recently revealed to other contestants of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia that he did, in fact, leave the show for a while. What exactly happened?
The former child star revealed that he left the sitcom for two entire episodes because of the continuous tension that was present on the set. Muniz’s career took off after he played Malcolm in the lead role, and in a short period, he rose to international fame. Likewise, Bryan Cranston’s career underwent a sea change after being featured in a pivotal role (Malcolm’s father) in the well-liked sitcom.

Malcolm in the Middle is a cult classic coming-of-age sitcom that has left a permanent mark on early 2000s television. Created by Linwood Boomer, the series originally ran from January 9, 2000, to May 14, 2006, spanning seven seasons and 151 episodes. Even though the story ended, Malcolm in the Middle has remained a major part of television history and it is, even today, considered to have raised a whole generation of children and teenagers who devotedly watched Malcolm and his family over the years.
Now, it’s been almost 20 years since the final episode aired, but there have been talks – for a while now – that a reboot with the original cast is in the works. The project is supposedly headed by Bryan Cranston, who played Malcolm’s dad, Hal, in the original series, but nothing official has been announced.

Melissa Gilbert had a ready answer when asked why fans of Little House on the Prairie always seem to burst into tears whenever they see her in person.
“Because I do! I think it’s just, you know … the show evokes so much emotion in people and made everybody feel,” Gilbert told the crowd Friday at the three-day Little House on the Prairie Cast Reunion and Festival in Simi Valley, CA. “So when they see us, they have the feels, and then the leftover feels from 50 years ago. Now they’re feeling it again through children and grandchildren. There’s this continuity and sense of family. This is a giant family reunion.”

This article contains spoilers for the final episode of Malcolm in the Middle.
Besides animated series, there are very few sitcoms which maintain a consistent level of hilarity with every beat of comic timing. No matter what point you turn on Malcolm in the Middle, any episode, something will make you laugh within 18 seconds. I’m not talking giggles or chuckles, but full-out guffaws that make you miss the next six jokes.
Other shows may be more consistent in overall quality, but none match the stream of funny that comes out of the series created by Linwood Boomer, himself the third of four siblings who was placed in the “gifted” class at school. After graduating, Boomer acted on Little House on the Prairie, another show focusing on a middle child. The semi-autobiographical Malcolm in the Middle doesn’t just call for a second look. It screams for a repeat binge.

Hersha Parady, known for her role as Alice Garvey on NBC‘s Little House on the Prairie, has died at the age of 78. She passed away on August 23 in her son Jonathan Peverall’s home in Norfolk, Virginia, according to Peverall. The actress suffered from a brain tumor, and her son set up a GoFundMe account in order to help pay the expenses. Parady and former NFL star Merlin Olsen were introduced in Season 4 of the series as husband and wife Alice and Jonathan Garvey in September 1977. She took on the role for 35 episodes. Her Walnut Grove schoolteacher character was tragically killed during a Season 6 episode, “May We Make Them Proud,” a two-hour episode, which saw Alice race to save some children inside a burning school for the blind, including Mary and Adam’s (Melissa Sue Anderson & Linwood Boomer) infant son. Alice finds the baby and tries to escape through an upstairs bedroom window,...

Parady and former NFL star Merlin Olsen were introduced as wife and husband Alice and Jonathan Garvey on the Michael Landon-created Little House on the Prairie during the season-four opening episode, “Castoffs,” in September 1977.

The “Breaking Bad” icon announced his plan to retire in 2026 and relocate to France. Cranston told British GQ that he will shut down his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, and put a pause on acting for at least six months. That’s also when Cranston will be 70 years old.
“I want to have that experience. I want to go for day trips and have the fire in the fireplace and drink wine with new friends and not read scripts,” Cranston said. “It’s not going to be like, ‘Oh, I’ll read and see what I’m going to do.’ No, it’s a pause. It’s a stop.”
He added, “It’s about taking a chance. I’m used to that feeling of not knowing.”

Bryan Cranston says he will retire from acting in 2026.
The “Breaking Bad” Emmy winner will be 70 years old at that time, and speaking with British GQ in an interview published Thursday, he explains that even if it’s a temporary break from the industry, he wants to move to a foreign village and lead a quieter life of cooking and gardening with his wife Robin Dearden.
“For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail. She’s been the plus one, she’s been the wife of a celebrity. She’s had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine. She has tremendous benefit from it, but we’re uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it,” Cranston said.

Mary Ingalls actor Melissa Sue Anderson grew up in the spotlight on Little House on the Prairie. She was on the wildly popular show for seven seasons and made guest appearances in the eight. But what is she doing today, all these years later?

Anderson got the role of Mary Ingalls when she was just 11 years old. But before that, she was no stranger to acting. She’d been in various commercials and had scored roles in shows like Bewitched and The Brady Bunch.
In Little House on the Prairie, she played the character of Mary, Laura’s older sister. In the books, Mary didn’t have much of a presence. But the TV show gave the character of Mary some more meat, which Anderson is thankful for.

Bryan Cranston is one of the most acclaimed character actors in Hollywood. His award-winning turn as Walter White in the AMC series Breaking Bad ensured his place in pop culture history. However, before Cranston made waves as the illicit meth kingpin, he played a much more wholesome character — Hal in the family comedy series Malcolm in the Middle. In a recent interview with GQ, the actor opened up about the process he went through to form the character, admitting that he had a lot of fun on set every single day.

While better known these days for portraying Walter White in Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston is thinking about bringing back one of his older characters… if the idea is right. In an interview with The Independent, Cranston talked about the long-rumored movie sequel of Malcolm in the Middle, the popular Fox sitcom in which he played the lovingly inept Hal. “It’s a possibility,” the Emmy-winning actor said, revealing that he’d recently talked with the show’s creator Linwood Boomer. “He said he would think about it, and he got his writers together. If they can come up with a great idea, a legitimate idea, then he’ll pursue it. But if not, then nah,” Cranston stated. The Your Honor star added, “I don’t need a job. I’ve got plenty of jobs. I don’t need it, but I’d want it if it was a great idea.

The Malcolm in the Middle reboot may be closer than ever, with none other than Hal himself, Bryan Cranston, saying a reunion movie could be the most likely possibility to get the cast back together.

It's odd to think that there's a whole generation of people who only know Bryan Cranston as Walter White on "Breaking Bad," and not as the lovable sitcom dad from "Malcolm in the Middle." It was his role as the kind-hearted albeit often inept Hal Wilkerson on the show that had many scratching their heads when he was announced to lead "Breaking Bad," with the juxtaposition between the two roles often brought up in early reviews of the groundbreaking AMC series.
"Malcolm in the Middle" was a mainstay in the early '00s, nabbing a Peabody Award, seven Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and seven Golden Globe nominations throughout its run. The show was mainly focused on the titular middle child named Malcolm, played to perfection by Frankie Muniz.

Frankie Muniz dropped a bomb on fans of his best-known role as the genius-iq Malcolm in a dysfunctional family that also included Bryan Cranston as his father Hal.
Well, according to Muniz, Hal might be getting the whole band back together as Cranston is apparently writing a revival of the series Malcolm in the Middle.
While promoting his appearance on the new season of The Surreal Life, another early-aughts show being brought back, Muniz told Fox News Digital that he would “love” being part of the reboot.
“I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling,” Muniz explained, though it sounds like this revival has yet to be officially approved.

WandaVision episode 6 “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” finds Wanda Maximoff accelerating the situation in Westview quite a bit. The children are all allowed out of their homes for a Halloween celebration and the very boundaries of the town are expanded.
Fittingly for such an episode, the show’s sitcom homages experience quite a bump as well. After honoring Family Ties, Full House, and other ‘80s and early ‘90s TV comedies in episode 5, this installment speeds ahead to the more experimental 2000s. Fox’s superb Malcolm in the Middle is in the driver’s seat this time and both Tommy and Billy are our precocious protagonists.

Details are scarce at this early stage, which is not uncommon for a project this early into development.
The book series was previously adapted into a TV series for NBC and starred Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert.
It was a roaring success and aired from 1974-83, having tremendous staying power.
TV movies followed the end of the original series, while ABC aired a miniseries based on the books in 2005.
The original series centered around the Ingalls Family, who live on a small farm near the village of Walnut Grove, Minn., in the late 1800s.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Little House on the Prairie is getting the update treatment.

He is the one who knocks…on the front door of 12334 Cantura Street.
If that sentence makes any sense to you, congrats! Your brain is irrevocably broken by television and you are aware of a popular fan theory surrounding two important Bryan Cranston roles: good father Hal on Malcolm in the Middle and bad father Walter White on Breaking Bad.
The theory posits that Albuquerque drug kingpin Walter White actually survived the events of the violent Breaking Bad finale and in turn entered into the vacuum salesman Ed Galbraith (Robert Forester) criminal protection program and re-emerged as working class father Hal on Malcolm in the Middle.
This week Cranston stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Here is what he had to say about said theory.
“I’m not at liberty to disclose that kind of information without security clearances. I think it’s fun…I don’t know.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Allison Janney winning her first (of seven!) Emmy Awards. The future Oscar winner was part of “The West Wing” sweep at the 52nd Emmys, which took place September 10, 2000 in ABC’s ceremony hosted by Garry Shandling. Heading into the ceremony many awards pundits thought HBO’s “The Sopranos” would prevail after being bested the previous year by ABC’s “The Practice.” However, it was yet another victory for broadcast networks as NBC’s political drama triumphed for what would be a record-tying run of four consecutive wins. (“The Sopranos” would have to wait until 2004 to finally be named TV’s Best Drama Series.) Watch Janney’s Emmys flashback video above.

Remember when Jeff Daniels pined for Meryl Streep? You don't?
That happened -- on screen, anyway -- long before the actor earned his 2013 Emmy nomination, the first of his career, as anchorman Will McAvoy on HBO's "The Newsroom."
Among his numerous movies was director Mike Nichols' 1986 take on Nora Ephron's autobiographical best seller "Heartburn," casting Daniels as the smitten editor who haplessly watched food writer Streep (as Ephron, basically) fall for a columnist played by Jack Nicholson (more or less representing Carl Bernstein) at a wedding. Take a look:
From that point forward, Daniels' roles primarily were starring ones, such projects as "Terms of Endearment" and Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo" having boosted him toward that status. But television gave him a couple of his earliest roles, and he was just getting started as an iconic series was ending.

Malcolm In The Middle: The Complete First Season
Stars: Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Masterson, Erik Per Sullivan, Justin Berfield | Produced by Todd Holland
If there is one safe bet for television it’s the family. If you want to create a drama build it around a family, want to have a film set in the Victorian era in a huge mansion? Set it around the family; want a cartoon to do well…yep that’s right set it around a family. Family is something that we as human beings understand we are “pack” animals, we know how the family works and we trust it. Of course that could be a double edge sword, if the writer can’t get the story believable, if the family is just too unrealistic then it will be doomed to fail. I guess this is why Malcolm in the Middle did so well,...

Thursday was a "Big D" for CBS, which picked up a multicamera comedy pilot from Jackie Filgo and Jeff Filgo.
The project, from Warner Bros. TV, centers on a New York couple who moves to the man's hometown of Dallas, where his Southern-belle mother makes life complicated for his East coast wife.
"Big D" is close in concept to another multicamera pilot at CBS, Linwood Boomer's "The Karenskys."
That project, from Universal Media Studios, is about a woman who returns to her hometown when her husband's job relocates them.

Here come "The Karenskys."
Mather Zickel, Annie Potts and Jack Thompson round out the cast of the CBS comedy pilot from "Malcolm in the Middle" creator Linwood Boomer.
The project, from Universal Media Studios and BermanBraun, centers on Emily Atwood (Sasha Alexander), who returns to her hometown when her husband's job relocates them and is reunited with her large, eccentric family, the Karenskys.
Zickel ("Rachel Getting Married") will play Emily's husband Bill Atwood, a biology professor who feels the loud, "men-kissing" Karenskys bunch might be too close for comfort.
Potts will play Pearl Karensky, Emily's cheerful and deeply religious mother. Thompson ("Australia") will play Max Karensky, Emily's tough, argumentative and tight-fisted father.

'Malcolm's' Boomer set at Regency
Linwood Boomer, creator/executive producer of Fox's Malcolm in the Middle, has inked a new overall deal with series producer Regency Television, and the network has picked up the veteran comedy for a seventh season. Under the new pact with Regency, Emmy winner Boomer will focus for the first time since Malcolm premiered in 2000 on developing new projects for the company while continuing to run Malcolm. "I have such a strong affection for 'Malcolm'; it's not really a job for me. So I want to make sure I don't plan on abandoning it to go do something new," Boomer said Thursday on the phone from the set of Malcolm, where he was supervising the show's last day of shooting for the season. "The development I would do would be sort of like having another child as oppose to trading in your kid."...
