He was also the youngest winner of the Prix Goncourt at 26 for "Mon village à l'heure allemande" a fictionalization of events during WWII in a village based on Méréville, his birthplace. Professor at Henri IV, an important Paris lycée, he also wrote books on the Romantics and on the Révolution de Juillet.
