It's hard to definitively categorize sci-fi into an individual box. Unlike other genres, there is never a singular concept that sci-fi focuses on. Rather, it imagines scenarios in which humanity is unbounded from limits on technological innovation and advancement. Thus, the possibilities are virtually endless. In these movies, dystopian futures are a reality, the universe is explored to its greatest ends, and extraterrestrial life is prominent. Even with unlimited potential, it seems like the most famous sci-fi works typically implement a pessimistic perspective.
For example, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner franchise, which will continue in 2025 with the series Blade Runner 2099, takes on the concept of hyper-advanced AI but does so in a bleak, depressing tone. Meeting other life forms has some positive implications, but the genre always assumes the worst. Several upcoming Alien movies will surely reinforce this trend, and offer a continuation in the story of the vicious Xenomorphs.

We sadly didn’t get a new Mortal Kombat entry last year on the series’ anniversary, but that all changes this year. Warner Bros. Discovery let the news slip during their earnings call yesterday that Mortal Kombat 12 will be coming in 2023.
Picked up by Twitter user Wario64, the clip from the earnings call had Andrew Slabin, Warner Bros. Discovery’s executive vice president of global investor strategy, announcing the new entry in passing. “And there’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” Slabin stated.
This is the first real news about Mortal Kombat 12 since Johnny Cage’s voice actor, Andrew Bowen, alluded to the game’s development last year. And really, it’s a no brainer for WB and developer NetherRealm, since Mortal Kombat 11 has sold in excess of...

With this October marking the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat, you have to wonder if series developer NetherRealm is marking the occasion with something big. That “something big” might in fact be a new entry in the series, if actor Andrew Bowen (who played Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11) is […]

One of Mortal Kombat 11’s initial creative blunders ended up being one of its greater strengths in the long run. As a bit of stunt casting, NetherRealm decided to replace Mortal Kombat X’s Tricia Helfer with Mma and WWE star Ronda Rousey as the voice of series mainstay Sonya Blade. Considering the excess of dialogue in the game’s story mode and countless pre-fight exchanges, Rousey’s questionable delivery turned a lot of people off on the character. It’s no wonder the studio didn’t bother giving Sonya any lines when Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath added a second story mode campaign.
Belgian DJ Dimitri Vegas also became a Sub-Zero skin and also recorded voice lines for the classic fighter for some reason. As you’d expect, Vegas’ delivery is bad but also hilarious in a “Why does this even exist?” kind of way.
That’s not to say...

Some of the biggest days on the calendar are viewed through a dark lens in the new horror anthology Holidays. Featuring a plethora of intriguing characters, one of the film’s standouts is Andrew Bowen’s performance as Reggie: an unconventional serial killer looking for his next victim on New Year’s Eve. Following Holidays’ world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival (and VOD debut) and ahead of its April 22nd theatrical release, we caught up with Bowen for our latest Q&A feature.
Andrew, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, and congratulations on your excellent work in Holidays. What attracted you to this film and the role of Reggie in the “New Year’s Eve” segment?
Andrew Bowen: Thank you so much! It was such a cool project to work on. I got involved after my friend and producer Gabriella Lugo (who produced [the] “Christmas...

Horror comedy Smothered is written and directed by actor turned director John Schneider. Yes, you did read that correctly… Actor John Schneider, who many will know from family-friendly productions and his roles as Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard and more recently Jonathan Kent, aka Superman’s dad, on Smallville, has turned his hand to writing and directing in more recent years but who knew he had a penchant for penning horror? Admittedly he has had roles in low-budget monster movies such as Super Shark, Snow Beast and Lake Placid 2 but I had no idea he was such a horror fan – he certainly has to be to create such a love letter to the horror community as Smothered.

Described as the horror version of The Expendables, "Dukes of Hazzard" star John Schneider's Smothered is noteworthy for boasting the largest number of horror icons ever to grace the screen at the same time, which is a claim that certainly grabs hold of our attention.

This was yet another well-written Criminal Minds episode, which portrayed the frustration of the Bau as it was forced to put aside its pursuit of their stalker (nicknamed "The Replicator") in order to hunt down an Unsub who's been stabbing women and cutting out their tongues.
The only connection is that they've all posted personal information online. In "The Gathering" we met two Unsubs: the first was the leader of a creative writing group, who wanted his students to detail their dark murderous fantasies. His students didn't realize his purpose; he wanted to re-enact those fantasies, down to the last detail.
The second unsub was one of his students, who discovered his teacher's intent, murdered him and then went on to try and recreate his own fantasy.
Is it any wonder the Bau struggled so hard to figure this all out?
The twists and turns to this story were engrossing and fascinating.

Taylor Lautner made an appearance Friday on the red carpet at Teen Vogue's annual Young Hollywood bash in La. He's on the cover of the October issue, and Taylor was looking right at home as he mingled with a crowd that included new Eclipse star Noot Seear. On Saturday, Taylor was already at Lax on his way back to Canada, where his costars like Robert Pattinson spent the weekend with their usual cast dinners and filming. Selena Gomez was also at the party, but the former couple didn't seem to get too close. Inside the party Selena joined fellow young stars like Ashley Tisdale, AnnaLynne McCord, Tallulah Belle Willis, and more. The following night, Selena performed her first ever concert in front of celebrity fans like Nicole Richie and Lo Bosworth. It sounds like a pretty exciting weekend for Selena, looking perfectly adorable as ever as she shows off another...
