It’s Labor vs. Capital, in basic terms! Sean Connery is the tough, embittered miner looking to strike back against the bosses, and Richard Harris the underdog who sees a way out by becoming an agent provocateur for the Pinkertons. An admirable true-life history lesson, Walter Bernstein & Martin Ritt’s downer of a drama didn’t grab the public’s imagination. But there’s no better vision of the time and place, thanks to James Wong Howe’s realistic, nearly monochromatic cinematography.

Dana Andrews movies: First-rate film noir actor excelled in both classics & minor fare One of the best-looking and most underrated actors of the studio era, Dana Andrews was a first-rate film noir/crime thriller star. Oftentimes dismissed as no more than a “dependable” or “reliable” leading man, in truth Andrews brought to life complex characters that never quite fit into the mold of Hollywood's standardized heroes – or rather, antiheroes. Unlike the cynical, tough-talking, and (albeit at times self-delusionally) self-confident characters played by the likes of Alan Ladd, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and, however lazily, Robert Mitchum, Andrews created portrayals of tortured men at odds with their social standing, their sense of ethics, and even their romantic yearnings. Not infrequently, there was only a very fine line separating his (anti)heroes from most movie villains.

This Above All was directed by Anatole Litvak, who would guide Olivia de Havilland in the major box-office hit The Snake Pit (1948), which earned her a Best Actress Oscar nod. In Max Ophüls’ darkly romantic Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948), Fontaine delivers not only what is probably the greatest performance of her career, but also one of the greatest movie performances ever. Days of Our Lives matriarch Frances Reid, who played Alice Horton on the long-running soap, died Wednesday at the age of 95. Reid appeared last on NBC's hit show in December of 2007. She also had roles on As the World Turns and The Edge of Night."I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid," Tweeted actress Allison Sweeney, who plays Sami on Days. "She was a truly talented actress and we are all lucky and proud to have known her." Reid played the silver-haired, mild-mannered matriarch of the show’s Horton clan since 1965 - a role she initially turned down.

Soap star Frances Reid, who played the Days Of Our Lives matriarch Alice Horton for 42 years, has died.

Reid passed away on 3 February at the age of 95.

The actress began her career with a small role in 1938 movie Man-Proof, before landing a string of jobs on Broadway.

She was said to have been reluctant to accept the part of Alice in Days of our Lives after an exhausting run on another soap opera - Portia Faces Life in 1954.

But the role made her a household name after the series' premiere in November 1965 - and eventually earned her a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys in 2004.

Reid made her final appearance on Days of our Lives in December 2007.

She married actor Philip Bourneuf in 1940 and the pair remained together until his death in 1979.

Franc. Reyes has been hired to write and direct the remake of Beyond a Reasonable Doubt for Regency Enterprises. The original film was one of the last English-language films from writer-director Fritz Lang. It starred Dana Andrews, Joan Fontaine, Sidney Blackmer, Arthur Franz, Philip Bourneuf and Ed Binns. The story centers on a newsman who intentionally frames himself for a murder he didn't commit in order to point out the dangers of circumstantial evidence and to expose an overzealous district attorney who has manipulated evidence in the past to gain convictions. Everything is going as planned until his friend, the one person who can exonerate him, is killed.

Regency Enterprises -- which along with Fox 2000 produced this past weekend's top-grossing movie, Man on Fire -- has found the truth in David Collard's Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. Collard's spec script is a remake of the 1956 RKO film of the same name. The original Beyond a Reasonable Doubt was one of the last English-language films from writer-director Fritz Lang. It starred Dana Andrews, Joan Fontaine, Sidney Blackmer, Arthur Franz, Philip Bourneuf and Ed Binns. The story centers on a newsman who intentionally frames himself for a murder he didn't commit to point out the dangers of circumstantial evidence and to expose an overzealous district attorney who has manipulated evidence in the past to gain convictions. Everything is going as planned until his friend, the one person who can exonerate him, is killed. The Collard script, developed internally at RKO, will be produced by Regency topper Arnon Milchan along with RKO's Ted Hartley. Nine Yards Entertainment's Aaron Ray, who repped the project and sold it to Regency's Sanford Panitch and Peter Cramer, will receive executive producer credit. Collard is repped by Endeavor.
